  • Hey loves!
Here's a little vlog to show you how different this Easter has been.
I included a quick recipe for the gluten free gnocchi we made cause some of you asked me to share more of the recipes that we use (which are usually my grandma's or mom's).
What traditions do you have for Easter?
Do you have chocolate Easter eggs like we do?

Stay strong Italy. NYC is in our own battle but we'll get through this eventually. I spent two weeks in Rome two years ago and plan to go back to Italy when we all return to a 'normal' state. Nice view from your balcony! Visit NYC sometime in the future.👍💪💪💪

Lovely video... We are moving to Lazio from the UK in the near future 🙏 I spent my first Christmas last year in Italy and it was fantastic and looking forward to celebrating Easter there one day. I have the same weighing scales. Take care & stay safe.

I really enjoyed the cooking demonstration part of the video. Please understand, it may be every day or uninteresting to you, but it is very interesting to those of us that live in other parts of the world. I have the ingredients and can't wait to try the gnocchi, especially exciting since we are under shelter in place orders too. In the past couple of years, the U.S. has started having kinder eggs, though not the same as in your part of the world. I guess our government thinks we are incapable of understanding that the toy inside of a kinder egg is inedible lol. Our kinder eggs are egg shaped, but one half is hollow chocolate and the other half is made of plastic and has a toy inside. Our kinder eggs are small, the size of a large chicken egg, your egg was magnificent, so beautiful! We don't have anything like that. A typical Easter meal to a lot of families is ham, but side dishes vary. We have coleslaw, which is shredded cabbage, scallions, shredded carrot with a dressing of cream, vinegar and sugar and the other side dish is baked beans, which is white beans with a type of barbecue sauce. We also have deviled eggs, bread rolls and some sort of dessert, but no traditional dessert. For the children, they wake up to an Easter basket, left by the Easter Bunny, filled with small toys and candies like jelly beans, a chocolate rabbit, Reese's chocolate eggs, Peeps, which are bright yellow, chick shaped marshmallows covered in sugar, malted egg shaped candy and many others, these are very typical. The bottom of the basket is usually filled with plastic "grass", it makes a mess! After the excitement of the basket, the children take their emptied basket outside to hunt for Easter Eggs that they boiled and dyed or decorated in some way the night before and left out for the Easter Bunny to find and hide for them. The Easter Bunny also brings and hides plastic eggs filled with candy, small toys or money. It's also a time that people go to church, even people that don't usually go to church go on Palm Sunday and Easter Sunday, It's so interesting to learn of the customs that others have and I appreciate the work that you do to share with us. Thank you so much and a special thank you to your mother for showing us her method. Don't take her for granted and learn everything you can from her and your grandmother, you are so lucky to have them! Happy late Easter!

I am late to the Easter party. Lol. Thank you for the wonderful gnocchi recipe. I can’t wait to make some! I have never made it homemade before. Looks fun! I am so glad you are enjoying your balcony. It definitely felt different this Easter. But like you, we are trying to make the best of quarantine and social distancing. I usually cook for my family. Ham, mashed potatoes, gravy, stuffing, green bean casserole and usually pecan pie for dessert is our traditional dinner. I still made a tiny ham, green bean casserole and sweet potatoes even though it was just my husband and myself this year. FaceTimed with my son and his wife , duo with my nephew and his family. I loved seeing my little great niece and nephew. My little niece still got a pretty, new Easter dress, even though she was just wearing it for church at home. They are so adorable and were excited over their Easter treats. They had church online and an Easter egg hunt in the yard. (We all have lots of land and can still easily go outside on our own properties. Very grateful for that. I called my dad and brother. I really missed having everyone over, feeding them all, and sharing hugs, but very grateful we are all healthy and blessed. I am a nurse and working at hospital, so even though we are technically allowed to gather in groups of 10 while practicing social distancing, I do not feel safe doing that for fear of possibly exposing my loved ones.
For well over a month, I have been only to work and for groceries 3 times. Have you ever had rhubarb pie or rhubarb crisp? We did yard work today, I cut some of my rhubarb and made rhubarb crisp. So yummy! Please be well! Ty for the videos and sharing. 😊
