    Most shows based on this form of confronting wrong doers, have them running to their Mercedes being chased by the camera crew. When doing this with a troll, we find him slowly walking to a bus stop.

    It’s the beauty of the internet Wild West. Keep it open and keep it free. Yes let people use whatever speech they want because we don’t want to risk free speech in the name of hurt feelings. Trolls are morons that only get power from reactions. If you dont let them get to you then they have no power

    • @Ocelot1962
      @Ocelot1962 2 роки тому +14

      I politely but firmly disagree with you, Doug. You just rephrased the old, cliched "sticks and stones will break my bones but name will never hurt me" line. I got news for you: words do hurt. Never underestimate the power of words. Words hurled by bullies often cause depression and anxiety and lead to self-harm in the vulnerable. Words cause riots and lead to lynchings. Words cause world wars. Not letting trolls get to you is not a realistic option for many if not most of us.

    • @dougfoster445
      @dougfoster445 2 роки тому +4

      @@Ocelot1962 well we can agree to disagree, but in America and in most of the developed world, there’s free speech. If we started to police speech then it’s only a matter of time before speech that you do agree with starts to become illegal. The beauty of speech is even if it’s insulting you can ignore it. And again, if you are talking about speech that results in injury, like yelling a fire, or starting a riot- that’s not free speech-that’s a call to action. It’s not illegal to yell fire in a crowded room as long as there really is a fire.

    • @brocksampson3405
      @brocksampson3405 2 роки тому +7

      Easy for you to say. You're not the one being trolled. Sorry to be rude and all and I really don't want to argue or start one for that matter but that phrase or saying about "sticks and stones may break my bones but words will never hurt me" sorry but words actually do hurt and cause just as much damage as physical harm to anyone. For those who advise us to ignore the trolls, it's easy for someone whose not being trolled or victimized to give advice like that but if you were trolled like some others have and if you couldn't get them to stop or if they found a way to ruin your life, than you wouldn't be saying we should ignore them. Ignoring doesn't work. It didn't work one hundred years ago ( back when people were possibly making others miserable face to face ) it didn't work fifty years ago and it sure won't work now. Forgive me but I'm not trying to argue or start argument and I'm not trying to troll. I know you mean well Doug. But ignoring just doesn't work and telling someone to ignore them is easy but when you become a victim of being trolled and if they ruin your life somehow, than that's when it's hard to ignore them or to not be bothered by them. Ignoring is basically ineffective. Again, I'm sorry for arguing or causing an argument, I don't mean to do that, it's just that we're finding out that ignoring them doesn't work.

    This is the only clip from that episode of Panorama that aired online. The BBC were apparently very pleased with the documentary until clips of it appeared and everybody started taking the p1ss. They kept haviing all of the clips pulled. The whole documentary was so ridiculously out of touch with what was really happening. Some of the other presenters kept calling it trawling. They were trying to put out an idea that these people were part of a community who get together to orchestrate hate crimes like these. What that guy said was true, what he did was not illegal, he didnt threaten anybody. The truth is most trolls just troll for fun, it makes them feel better about themselves. They're not working together like this documentary suggested, there have been examples of this like forums like 4chan getting together but thats not too common. It really misquoted the law and the old farts at the BBC were left red faced because they came across as stupid.

    • @dunebasher1971
      @dunebasher1971 9 місяців тому +2

      The documentary highlighted that trolls are mostly inadequates (usually, but not always men) who, despite protestations that what they're doing isn't illegal, aren't willing to do it under their real names. Note how he was clearly unhappy about his real identity being made public - these people can give it, but not take it.

    • @Mike--Oxmall
      @Mike--Oxmall 9 місяців тому +1

      @@dunebasher1971 The documentary also wrongly asserted that they were an organised group looking to do harm. Most people online have trolled somebody in some form at some point, whether arguing about a topic or just trying to be funny. There are extreme examples but not on the level the documentary was trying to portray. It was a scaremongering attempt, as if we had a new epidemic on our hands. It was obviously made by older people who have no concept of how people online communicate with each other.
