Love the sewing chaos. Will be interesting if you ever find out what girls wore. I have scene an Aussie doco (I'm Aussie) that mentioned split crotch underwear. I know in those days girls ad to be ladies but I'm still with you. Girls want to climb and stuff. There must have been a way to let girls play and keep their modesty
I made girls' underwear for the 1910s last month and basically, it's a very similar design without the split crotch. I'm wondering if "calmer" girls were wearing the split crotch ones (since I now have documentation) but more normal or rowdy ones were wearing closed crotch undies. That's my working hypothesis until I research more.
As always these turned out super cute! Your going to have such a handsome little man some day. Just a thought you mentioned rambunctious little ladies doing what little girls do. I know it wouldn't be period and would probably be a big pain in the bum for bathroom breaks, but perhaps a pair of modern drawers under the other pair ? I know it wouldn't be "correct" but, it's a thought.
Thank you! I'd be concerned about bathroom accidents in trying to get both the period drawers and modern drawers underneath off before the need to go becomes to much. Right now, I think the best bet is to use the little girl ones with the closed crotch that will require me to unbutton them from the back. Not as convenient, but when at public events, I wouldn't allow a 2 or 3 year old to walk to toilets on their own anyway so I'd already be there to unbutton drawers as needed. It's a little inconvenient but I think likely the best choice for now.
@KatelynKearns I thought about that as well, as I was writing. Little bladders and double layers = twice as long to get to use the potty. For the time being at least the closed crotch style is probably best, because like you said at that age it's not like you will be letting them go to the bathroom alone. 😊 Katelyn thank you again for a fantastic video, always so informative and fun, with amazing results. Your going to have the best dressed little ones!
Hi, could you make bloomer style knickers for the girls, like worn for tennis but with rows of lace, my mum was born in 1940, and she wore them, she also had a liberty bodice, she hated it and waited for nan to go to work and then removed it before she went to school, from what she has told me it was a padded top like a cross between a corset and a vest. The little boys combinations are very cute. ❤
