he has social anxiety when there isn't too much attention focused on him, he is much more comfortable with speaking and is actually a very thoughtful and interesting person
Johnny Depp is one of the most versatile actors that exist. A great reference for everybody on acting. Great characters developed and great job, Johnny.
I think he has embraced his dark side though and he likes working with Tim Burton who is a bit dark too and his band is called Hollywood Vampires and is a bit Goth too that seems like his personality.
I just watched Ed Wood last night again for the second time and really enjoyed it.I caught it when it first came out in the theater and wasn't as blown away as the second time through.Martin Landau really did a wonderful job capturing the tragic quality of Lugosi, and Depp was hilarious as Wood.
Johnny Depp is awesome, wonderful performance in the movie and I enjoy his comments here. I agree with him, there is a kinship between Wood and later people like Waters and Lynch.
Around this time he had broken up with Winona Ryder and I think in an interview he or someone who was working with him at the time said he was having a difficult time with it.
yeah i have read about it! Tim Burton the director of this film and a good friend of Johnny said he had a difficult time during the shooting of this film! :/
Valerie Marie there was a sadness to his portrayal in ed wood that really sold the characters heart ache and defeat. johnny depps best role in my opinion, and my favorite film of tim burtons period. I adore this film as much as mr. wood adored his angora
Ed Wood was a very good filmmaker. Glen or Glenda is a masterpiece, not only a very entertaining movie but also very brave to make this movie in that time with all those censors and witchhunters around, and Wood did not care, he made his movie the way he wanted. Too bad he never had budgets like Hawks or Ford.
@missym877 - The interviewers asking Johnny to keep his answers short (30 secs) - probably so the vid can be edited into sound bytes and assembled with clips or other material.
Thank ee' for the BTS look at a highly entertaining n yet overlooked movie that unfortunately didn't reach much of an audience(like Ed Wood himself.) not that I'm puzzled even knowing how it was critically acclaimed. Anyway I watched them b4 but wanted to take em for another spin. Depp seems like a pretty sophisicated actor-like he researches all his roles pretty dilligently n derives satisfaction from all facets of acting.
he is such a great interview. he knows what he is saying and understands what he is saying. not like these other actors though good actors (not comparing to johnny depp) they act so stupid and confused when interviewed
Matt Halbmaier Blow, Chocolat, Finding Nederland, The Libertine, Sweeney Todd, Public Enemies are not cheap crap. Black Mass could've been better as a whole but his performance was great.
gabrielle g I agree with you, but Chocolat was 2000 and Blow was 2001. As a true fan I have to say the movies you listed he did great work in and should have been nominated for Black Mass even though it wasn't that good. I know they did it on the cop's perspective but who wants to see that? Imagine Henry Hill or the feds perspective? LOL all in all Johnny should have won, I hate when they give Oscars away for past mistakes and cuz someone has been around a long time......
@coolarman Oh god your right. I love the fact that the guys who made metal gear and world of warcraft said "No! No, no, no, no! We are not letting you make a crappy movie based on our awared winning video games."
Is that common in modern interviews for the interviewer to say "in 30 seconds" when asking for an answer? Edit: great actor great movie and the interviewer asking interesting questions too
What are you talking about? Yeah, he doesn't speak well because he's shy or whatever, but from what he does say it's obvious he's well-read and thoughtful.
It's about the late movie director Ed Wood who, in 1959, made what was voted the worst movie ever made ("Plan 9 from outer space") and in 1981 was voted the worst director of all time. I highly recommend you see this movie - it tells the story of Ed Wood and his friendship with Bela Lugosi (who played Dracula). The movie stars Johnny Depp, Sarah Jessica Parker, Patricia Arquette and Martin Landau (who deservedly won the Oscar for his portrayal of Bela Lugosi).
it recently came out that there's evidence that it wasn't true, that he never touched his wife other than to hold her down to get her to stop hitting him.
My personal opinion: One of the best films I have ever seen.
Martin Landau stole the show
@@alcoholic2412 He was great, but the movie is full of fantastic performances.
I love it.
he has social anxiety
when there isn't too much attention focused on him, he is much more comfortable with speaking and is actually a very thoughtful and interesting person
johnny is so nice and polite
Johnny Depp is one of the most versatile actors that exist. A great reference for everybody on acting. Great characters developed and great job, Johnny.
Incredibly handsome man and excellent actor, enough said.
I’m a Dude but you’re right
Ed Wood is an Masterpiece!
but when he is acting he morphs into the character he is playing, one of the best actors today.
IMHO this was one of Depp's BEST roles. A great Tim Burton film which a lot of people aren't even aware of!
He’s extremely talented
johnny depp has admitted that 1993-1994 were darker periods of his life
This is the time of his break up with Winona Ryder
@@yurihazuki5266 well shit, I'd be bummed too
that's nothing he lived with from 2016 until today
well, sure he changed his point of view, his darker period is now
I think he has embraced his dark side though and he likes working with Tim Burton who is a bit dark too and his band is called Hollywood Vampires and is a bit Goth too that seems like his personality.
Johnny depp deserves an Oscar thanks bye.
what the fuck, how can a man be so blindingly beautiful?
Excellent actor. He nailed the Wood character as the ultimate optimists.
he is one of the best actors. He was phenomenal in Ed Wood
sweet man and amazing actor
so down to earth. one of my favorite role models..
give it up for my man J.Depp
He is so soft spoken. I love it!
Love his voice
best film I've seen honestly
Wow, he looks so much older in the movie. I didn't realize how young he looked in 1994. Great film, great actor, thanks for sharing this :)
Johnny Depp.. is perfect.. for all his imperfections.. he is perfect
Well said
johnny depp is an artist...
Ed Wood - what a movie! Johnny is fearless. Burton knew he cast the right man for his movie! The re-watch factor on the film is insane!
I just watched Ed Wood last night again for the second time and really enjoyed it.I caught it when it first came out in the theater and wasn't as blown away as the second time through.Martin Landau really did a wonderful job capturing the tragic quality of Lugosi, and Depp was hilarious as Wood.
Johnny is a deep thinking intelligent actor, unique a nd so talented yet humble.💯👏❤❤❤❤
Yes I definetely agree with how Ed is perceived. Also a substitute teacher I had in English class was an extra in this movie
Love his voice. Such a nice, deep tone.
great movie, Depp is a genius
wow from the way he talks in real life i cant believe he nailed the character ed wood so well
I love how to defend a character as reviled as Ed Wood. I feel very proud of him
Johnny is so cute in this interview thanks for uploading this! 5s and favs definately!
he did a great job in that movie, I just watched it and loved it
gosh what a nice man. love this movie
hahaha "you're not ed wood, that's not your personality".
Johnny Depp is awesome, wonderful performance in the movie and I enjoy his comments here. I agree with him, there is a kinship between Wood and later people like Waters and Lynch.

I adore this film
as much as mr. wood adored his angora
the year before, when he was filming Gilbert Grape, but you're right, he did this right after GG
How sad, that 2 people who loved each other so much had to break up. Bec.of the people and pressure around them.
This is a pre-tty good interview. One of my all-time favorite movies EVER.
Very nice how Johnny Depp speaks of a film he had done. A master class
There are directors out there in the "horror" genre (50's-60's) that make Ed Wood look like Stanley Kubrick.
Back then interviews were a bit more civil, informativ,e and honest.
Ed Wood was great! He made films with a bit of money and material. I would like to see the big Hollywood studios to do that today.
He is the best ;] I just love ;]
I enjoy all his movie ;)
Agreed. Buy this movie! It's fantastic.
*** 'What a complete 👏 👌 🙌 😍 ❤ 💖
❤ HEART ❤ THROB!'
I love Johnny Depp!!!
yep...i think that about covers it...
Great Film.

AGREE....*drooling and smiling in a daze*
wow, you can see that this is some while ago... But damn, Johnny still keeps his sexy good lookin'!
-Did you feel it was a risk having to play a transvestite?
-No. Not at all. I thought it was an opportunity to sort of have some fun.
That's my boy!

Johnny is the so hot. and the best actor in the world!
aww thanks
I Watched Ed Wood and I gotta say it’s a Pretty Good Picture
it was way before fear and loathing. this interview is from 1994
he is such a great interview. he knows what he is saying and understands what he is saying. not like these other actors though good actors (not comparing to johnny depp) they act so stupid and confused when interviewed
💝🌸
how the fuck have you not heard of ed wood - foooking classic!
He looks like my crush! Gosh
So that explain voice I hear the Ronald in him lol i had the movie . Need to reorder it .
I think that Ed was intelligent, but that doesn't necessarily mean artistic.
he started taking drugs again during the filming of gilbert grape (1992 or 1993), and it went on for a few years, with pauses here and there.
It’s funny how he’ll take drugs during a time period but then manage to sound lucid and thoughtful in his interviews.
He is a STRANGE, STRANGE man...but a DAMN excellent actor.
"Artistic visionary": that too, is Johnny Depp. so sad really that so many have NO fucking idea of what he's always tried to do.
goodgod man! yeah too bad he's spent the past 15 years making cheap crap for a buck
Matt Halbmaier Blow, Chocolat, Finding Nederland, The Libertine, Sweeney Todd, Public Enemies are not cheap crap. Black Mass could've been better as a whole but his performance was great.

you can still hear it, maybe he didnt have to change himself to play thompson...
mijito
what does it mean?

haha "Johhny' lol
Sure for the sequel it could cover Woods descent into porn and the twilight of his film career.
lmao!
@coolarman Indeed. Compared to "FarCry", "Plan9" is a Masterpiece^^
that's it
He reminds me of Kurt Cobain in this interview.
Back when he dressed like a normal person
@mrbrown15 ..... i dont get it
lol its strange to see depp not acting cooky and strange LOL he kicks ass tho
Sean Connery
Ha, he called him on the John Lovett thing. It's so obvious.
@coolarman Tommy Wiseu
ehhehe, in fact he left high school when he was 15
i find in the ed wood movie he is acting like he does while playing willy wonka
sexy voice :D
Kevin Conroy
means that he smoked weed baby
Guy keeps saying in 30 secs, thats kinda rude, and notice how the interview is longer than 30secs
@coolarman I think Tommy Wiseau has even him beat.
Alex Fleming "I did not hit her....oh, hi, Mark".
The Sexiest Man Alive for 2011!
@coolarman No, Uwe Bool seems to try and be bad, Ed Wood actually tried to make good movies but they were all terrible.
What did Shakespeare involving women in plays have to do with anything? (Sorry if I wasn't paying attention long enough.) ADHD.
i like to dress in woens clothing
I think that the existance of Uwe Boll has exonerated Mr. Wood from the title of "worst filmmaker ever"
Leonardo dicaprio
I hope it's not true that he beat his wife, because it would make this vid all the more depressing :(
Why?
it recently came out that there's evidence that it wasn't true, that he never touched his wife other than to hold her down to get her to stop hitting him.
@coolarman Michael bay is terrible as well!
