As Toogii said, that's how it was before. But I know what you mean... at the house I live in, the laundry is down in the basement, while everything else is upstairs. It's a real pain in the rear. If I could remodel, I'd put a stackable somewhere on the ground floor (even if I had to sacrifice one of the tiny closets to make room), and take out most of what's in the basement (leaving the A/C unit and water heater but moving them over to a corner somewhere), and turn the rest of the basement into a half bath and mancave. (It's a relatively small house; two bedroom, one bath, slightly less than a thousand square feet.) Unfortunately, it's a rental, though I did get permission to repaint. The original purple bedroom was a little over-the-top.

Why would you need to put a car in to the garage.
Why not make it as a home with carage converted to workshop / storage to things you might need at work. Stack of pallets because stuff got delivered here, a pallet, and couple toilets on said pallet, some shelves where you have bunch of spare tools, and so on.
