- Description:
▀▀▀▀▀▀▀
Abrar Bhai is my cousin who saw the best side of Karachi growing up in the 60s and 70s. We sat down to reminisce on good old times taking the nostalgia highway and how Karachi depleted into being the least livable city from all its glory. You'd love the discussion.

I'm not even from Karachi, nor are my parents from there, nor have we ever been to Karachi but I could still visualize these events and stories and literally felt as if I grew up in Karachi. The magic of storytelling!
@Najaf S. Really i love history mane 😀
Abay bhai😹
I was born n bread in Karachi. I was born in 1957 in holy family hospital. We have lost the real glory of Karachi. You won't imagine what Karachi use to be. It was the most modern city of Pakistan. You would even find bar and clubs in it. I can go on and on. Thanks for sharing
So True sir ☑️👍

Being born and raised in Karachi I can totally relate to this interview. I have been living in Canada for last 5 years and I can see how much effort Canada is now putting toward reviving sense of community because of its benefits. It's saddening to hear that we had such a strong community system and we wrecked it. Hats off to you Junaid your doing this character building of our nation which was once being done by pleasant, kind hearted and selfless people like Abrar Bhai.
JazakAllalh

It was same on this side of the border too. I miss those golden days. 🇮🇳🇵🇰
I was born in Karachi,I grew in Karachi and in my opinion Karachi is the only place were you can find anything that you want.Karachi is the best city
This was pure nostalgia. I laughed, i smiled and i cried, watching this podcast. This was a whole journey even though i am 90s kid but i have heard thousands and thousands of stories from my father.
This is probably the best podcast of yours!!
Because everything is relatable, from the moholla culture to hockey craze, everything was same in Kolkata, thank you Junaid Sir for this fantastic podcast and thanks to Abrar Bhai too
Is it the still same there or has every thing changed?
@@aawishkhan we try to maintain the culture, but now this transparency has gone, like giving cooked food to the neighbors or having lunch in neighbor's house, helping moholla people like your own family, spending nights in hospital for moholla bashinda, those things are still there but not in that extend what used to be in my father's time
Me too heard from my father watching movies in one tv owner in whole moholla where everyone gathered,my grandfather's youngest brother was division hockey player and now hockey is out of scenario, but football craze is still there,so many people used to get a job through their sports quota, now those things doesn't matter.
The main reason behind the greater family was we people migrated from Bangladesh to Kolkata as like as Karachi people from various parts of India,we didn't have anything with us at that time, the main thing required to survive at that moment was to stay United,we mohollawala have to solve each other's problem and stay United. From that this bindings got created, but through the generations we are forgetting the struggle aur grandparents did when they had nothing and stood up and now we got a good lifestyle and eachother living their own lives comfortably

Abrar Bhai is a very humble person ♥️
I can relate to all the conversation as I was a teenager in Karachi during the late 80s. I lived during that time in Hasan Square which was in the Gulshan-e-Iqbal area. The community and mohalla spirit was absolutely amazing. People were simple, happy, empathetic and we spent alot of time together whether it was eid, holidays or simply playing cricket together in the evening in our apartment complex.
What Abrar bhai said about women and families being able to move about freely is 100% correct. A huge contrast to the situation nowadays.
Another great reason for that amazing lifestyle was that Karachi's community was by and large secular. We never cared who is who and what your religion or maslak is or where you come from. Shia, Sunni, Ahmadis or whether you are Sindhi, Mohajir, Punjabi made no difference. We loved each other and we were together regardless the event.

When I hear about "the dark times" that came upon Karachi, the attack on the integration of people from different cultures, the attack on celebrating our differences, I feel sad and scared, because that's what I see in India right now. (Fun fact, Junaid Bhai says that his family belonged to Ludhiana pre 1947, and that's the city where I live in✌️😌)
