Hey you guys. I'm watching lots and lots of your great videos. Our young labrador is getting better and learning more every day. I've seen your videos on calling your dog to return to you and teaching him his name. When I say his name he should come and face me/sit in front of me, right? At the same time I shouldn't use his name too often so it isn't devalued. How do I teach him to come to me with "come" and not his name and for what situations do I use the name? Just with other dogs? Could you please do a video to show the differences between using the dogs name and telling him to come + situational use? I'll be tuning in for the train station.
Hi there, Mary! Here’s a housetraining playlist that you’ll find helpful: Puppy Potty Training For New Puppy Owners ua-cam.com/play/PL7BBgLulhernNqR-g0-2HC6NKh0Tw7xg3.html Thanks for watching ~Ken
My black lab ate my glasses $250. He ate 5 channel changers. Various shoes socks slippers. And my couch. After all that he still turned out to be one of the best behaved dogs I’ve ever owned. Only took three years. Lol
If you trained your lab properly from the puppy stage you would’ve never had to deal with that. I’ve had 3 labs now and various other dogs and they’ve never destroyed anything other than toys. You need to teach them that toys are for chewing and nothing else. It sounds like your dog was stressed out from not getting enough exercise. Puppy’s will misbehave when their not properly stimulated.
@@TheReal_DirtyB We just adopted a 6-month old Lab, and he gets exercised A LOT, but the moment he gets left alone, he gets into destroy mode. I’ve been trying to reinforce toys, and leave him with a lot of options too, but we’ll see how it goes as time goes on 🤦♀️ lol
@@Esaquimiyeah I have a lab and the second she started chewing things she wasn’t supposed to I would correct that behavior and give her items she CAN chew on. It’s not hard
Sound advice! I would also add two more. 1. BE PATIENT. It took me a few months to finally get my lab to release the ball in my hand. It was not easy and took training 6 days of the week for 30-1hour 2. I use “drop it” when I don’t want them to have something in their mouth. I use “release it” when it’s his toy or ball for play. -small things make a big difference, just be consistent yourself with commands and delivery if you expect the same consistency from your pooch.
On day one, week one, month one - when our black lab girl was most food-motivated and dependent: name/treat 100's of times, then toss for retrieve/drop it for treat. Now, if she picks up anything around the house, she brings it to me to trade for a treat! 😁👍 At 7 months I still haven't trained a "come right to me, touch my hand so I can grab the collar" but her name and a "let's go" always brings her along...ready to start the exact "come" behavior on a longline now. SO smart, so willing, SO energetic, so wonderful. ❤️
Their is so much info out there about dog training and when I was only an owner I played around with every training method. I also made the big mistake of giving freedom to early and not managing my environment. Now that I am a trainer I understand the pations that it will take and the amount of management I need. It took me over 10 year to develop my training styles. It's just nice to know that you are not alone and even trainers once was that person with an out of control dog.
God knows I made mistakes I own up to them I thank you my Black Lab just turned 12mos old in the Chew stage I'll never give up on Girl Girl had her since she was 6weeks old 🐾🐾😘😍👏 Thank you so much 💕💖
From what I can see Deegan is BEAUTIFUL!! Love me some Labs!! I trained my Lab I had, sadly only for a couple of years as we had to get rid of our dogs, with no problems. I trained our current senior min pin/corgi x without treats, just pets and good girl praises. This Lab I now have... LOL I'll get him trained, and the right way, with positive reinforcement. He's 2, he might be 12 when we are done, but we will get there. AWESOME video!!
There’s 4 quadrants to operant conditioning, and positive reinforcement is only one of them. Positive reinforcement is great for teaching wanted behaviours but not so much to teach unwanted behaviours. Not telling you how to train your dog, but you should definately look into it ✌🏽
I'll add 2 more: 1) Be patient! Unlike humans, there is never a need for negative reinforcement in dog training. When you get mad, it's terrifying for your dog! From your dog's point of view, imagine a 600-lb gorilla screaming in simian rage and beating its chest and not being able to tell you what you did wrong! It WILL cause behavior problems. Your dog will listen to you eventually. If you're getting upset, love on your dog a bit then do something else and return to the training again later. 2) If your dog chews things, punish the thing your dog chewed on. I know it sounds weird. I had a golden retreiver that chewd up one of my CD's while I was at work. I read in a book (Dog Training for Dummies, to be specific, lol) about this trick, so I tried it. When I saw what she had done. I made sure my golden (who was looking like she was feeling guilty) was watching me, I did NOT punish my dog but instead went to the chewed up CD lying on teh floor and gave it a good talking to! Even tapped it a few times as a type of spanking. I felt incredibly stupid for doing this, too. But dang if it didn't work! Never chewed on anything again! I was like, "what is this sorcery??" Apparently in dog world, the CD got punished for being chewed, and my dog didn't want that punishment so it stayed away from it to avoid danger. This is how dogs think. Weird but it worked like a champ!
When my lab was 6 months old he went to war with all the door stops in my house, I didn't realize they're all gone until 2 weeks later when I noticed holes on the walls from all the door handles around the house. 😂 He's a good boy now though. Another note, fantastic video guys, I really enjoyed this one a bunch. Labs are my favourite dogs as I waterfowl hunt. Thanks.
My chow mix taught me some things about dog training as Well. Mostly how to deal with stubborn dogs and terriers. (She was a chow, shar pei, German shepherd, pit bull mix)

Hi! Thanks for the tips, seems really useful! Do you have any tips for black labrador - teenager period? My girl is taking training and now 7 months old, start observing some teenage rebellious, not commanding, moody behavior. Any tips would be appreciated! :)
Love your channel guys! You are really making us see where some of our hang ups are with our own pups. I am struggling with walks w my two labs. Would you suggest I walk them separately until they are good w walks? Without distractions our walks are fun and we move pretty smoothly. My black lab recently started to bark if he sees another dog in the distance. Then my yellow lab gets distracted by it too . 🤦🏻♀️ He doesn’t pull, but even a treat doesn’t stop him barking. My pups are 20 months old and 12 months old. When they were small it was easy. Now they are both 85 lbs and super stronger and heavier than me. Also, I have my younger son walking them after school. I know he is not following what we need to do. So we have basically a family of five and only “Me” is trying to make them learn.
I've had a lot of luck with walk away training! If you can go to a place where there will be on leash dogs or if you have a friend or neighbor who would help (have them stand as far away as they have to so your dog doesn't react) work separately with the dogs because I believe you said one is feeding of the other. Reward when he sees the dog (if he barks start from farther away) and slowly work your way closer. If he barks just turn around and walk the other direction until you can regain his focus (focus is the key! your dog focused and pretty much ignoring the other dog is the goal) practice name recognition a ton! (say name, if the dog looks at you, treat!) I hope you get a response from the owner as obviously I'm not a professional trainer, I've just been where you are and it sucks. It can take a long time but it is so worth it! Good luck!

Hi there, Scarlett! It's really important that you are supervising your pups when they have an opportunity to make these bad decisions. Males are more likely to do this kind of marking behavior, especially after a location has been marked. Knowing this, when your dogs are in that area, you must keep a close eye on them. Catching them in the act is going to be a crucial step toward fixing this problem. When we play she is so excited she Destroyed a Kong Bouncey Sqeak Ball It opened up I immediately to it Called the Company they told me That wasn't supposed to Happen I monitor her never leave your Fur Baby unattended with toys 🐾🐾👌👈
My dog doesn't play tug with me... already try with 10 toys... i put food on their nose in front of cats and dogs... he still focus on the cats and dogs... my dog retrieves toys to his bed... most time, not to me, he isn't a dog who likes to share.... 10 useless lessons. not worthy. dislike

Ken I have a major problem I have six huskies they were all housetrained but the past couple months the males are cocking their leg in the house I do not know how to stop this and I’m sure it’s a territorial thing because if I bring something new in the house as soon as no one is looking one of them pee’s on it PLEASE Help!!!!
Here's a link to a video that will help you to be prepared for that moment: ua-cam.com/video/L1KqfQOSrKs/v-deo.html
Thanks for watching! ~Ken

Truth is most people are stupid..from some one who manages a 20 acre farm..ditch the mini van and get to know your critters.
Is my black lab to old to be a service dog at 3 years old
My lab doesn't follow no matter what
My dog doesn't play tug with me... already try with 10 toys... i put food on their nose in front of cats and dogs... he still focus on the cats and dogs... my dog retrieves toys to his bed... most time, not to me, he isn't a dog who likes to share.... 10 useless lessons. not worthy. dislike
ഇത് എൻ്റെ പട്ടി ആണ്.
