Engage Emotionally- Start With The Why. What Doesn't Work- Simple Reading, Highlighting And Underlining by itself, straight re-reading
    1)HAVE STUDY AREA
2)HAVE HABITS AND ROUTINE- make it second nature
    3)STUDY YOUR WEAKNESSES- for improvement
4)WHAT STUDY METHOD WORKS FOR YOU- ie mnemonics
5)BE PROACTIVE- engage all senses, make sure you understand the topic
6)TEST YOURSELF- give your self questions regularly and early
7)STUDY GROUP/FRIEND- find best person for job, inspire you, educated etc
    8)RIGHT TECHNOLOGY- helps efficiency

I think an important thing is to keep things simple too.
I used to do crazy diagrams on top of mental memory methods on top on notes etc.
Now, in medical school, I've realised that it's just not feasible to fit in so many different methods because of the sheer quantity of the content.
Keeping it down to a few methods have helped me so much.

Contrary to "focus on your weaknesses", when wrote 2nd mb - Biochemistry Alternative to practical almost hit me hard because I focused on the calculations which were a lot more difficult than the tests which I found a lot easier, but it was frustrating having to rush through them as the date drew near😭😭😭 ..... I learned to be more grounded on my strengths first before tackling the difficult ones, ......incidentally, no calculations came out, but God in His mercies saw me through ☺

Not JUST for surgeons (as I think you imply)! Thank you.
I once told my surgeon (the ONLY one in my life who had the courtesy to visit me pre-op - and I've had several surgeries; he also did a fairly good follow-up - wearing a VERY shiny loud pin-stripe suit!) that surgery is like sculpture/art - he appeared to disagree with me but gave no reason, why?
Just a few notes I made while listening (I've got a brain injury):
    - Kids not only find it easy to learn (like sponges mopping up water, often, different 'easyness'/difficulties for different tasks/people) but because their brains are VERY plastic = are at the time (we think at mo - though after my brain injury my damaged brain tried to do lots of this but made a very temporary error by joining up sound & vision = synaesthesia = fascinating but a little bit intrusive) when they are in the process of building LOADS of neuronal+ connections. I agree: far easier to learn what interests you!
    - For me reading and doing work better than trying to listen/understand = since my brain injury these latter skills are far worse. I get very boggled now with diagrams, this surprises me because before I was a graphic designer = maybe I haven't seen the right types?
    - Yes: I used to be able to work (graphic design) & read & everything with music on & really liked it but now need QUIET, I also need to be comfy but have no ergonomic furniture so my various physical injuries get worse & more pain.
    - For me since brain injury I lost everything I used to do without consciously thinking 'on auto' (so MANY tasks did daily before now needed planning and conscious effort/movements; e.g. making a cup of tea & toast at same time SO difficult) so since then IF I can do things in the same (right = should've got HELP/rehab with that coz form bad habits when brain is very plastic!) ways it's less for my brain to try to think about = less exhausting, for me driving (because I've managed to relearn by myself, I'd lost concentration & was maybe dangerous = luckily I realised, so I stopped for a while) so yes: routine helps, it's VERY boring but useful - i eat the same easy foods (which don't upset my damaged guts = ALL my injuries caused by doctors' very serious errors) SO often that as a result I don't enjoy food and have lost my appetite. When things happen (BAD sleep/nightmares & so on) which throw my routine out everything is far more difficult and exhausting.
    - Fill holes, test & repeat = yes but with the memory problems I now have NEW memories fade really fast unless they're constantly refreshed - unless they are very wonderful. unusual or traumatic = same as for all of us but more so? Some holes (maths) I can't seem to fill, I had good skills in that but now have lost them lots. I remember saying before I was injured that it's very unfair that those diagnosed with dyslexia get extra help/time+ but those who struggle with maths (and other things) don't, I hope this changes and people are allowed and encouraged to pursue things they enjoy and excel at.
    - Acronyms+ :- I mostly can't remember these now: not enough repetition? I still remember the one for colours in rainbow/prism from when I was a kid but although I thought I'd learned your for brachial plexus I can now only remember parts of is: Robert...Drinks Cold Beer but maybe that'll fade soon because i won't (need to) practice it? I find it often easier to recognise people by their jewellery or teeth or shape rather than their face, bit sometimes I surprise myself and DO recognise people in different clothes ad out of normal context. I try to link person's name (if I remember to, aren't too tired!) with another person with that name or something else = I have to try to pay attention to everything and it's utterly exhausting, if I don't I mess up and answer "yes" when I mean "no" = awful for me and others and if/when I realise I worry until (IF I remember to) try to put it right = stress and I feel like a dumbo.
    - Be proactive = yes, I have to TRY to but I lose concentration for loads of things but oddly NOT for driving and haven't hit anyone or another vehicle in the 14+ years since my brain injury - though I've hit a low post I couldn't see, a tree (trying to get car closer to it = watching size of space was trying to leave for possible car/space next to me) and a wall = when totally exhausted by silly Post Office machine and too-complicated long-winded task of it and nose/light+ in there. Yes: trying to paraphrase what I think I've learned is good = IF I'm not too tired to remember, try and do - which I often am. Yes: since my brain injury if I don’t re-learn/refresh & practice these new memories fade really badly and fast - some of them, complicated and varies. I’m REALLY sick of being made to repeat stuff by others though, things I find exhausting and feel pointless - it would work far better if it was interesting stuff: money-reward often doesn’t work (I’m lucky: at mo have enough money, though no income) but sometimes does.
    - Study buddy or group: yes, helps for some things, for me noise & chat/other people/movement/smells/lights are exhausting - on top of bad chairs+ which hurt and travel there and back. For me best on phone: can lie down (though this hurts too) and close my eyes - my eye muscles are weak and hurt (and my two eyes face slightly different ways now and my pupils are stuck small and I see a bit double even with my BAD uncomfy specs and especially the moon has various ghosting, different in each eye and colour slightly different - but described as ;normal’ by silly optician and ‘docs’) so it can be hard to hold them open and people’s faces moving is tiring to watch = NOT avoidance for anything other than brain fatigue and overload! I’ve recently lost pleasure even in my art which used to be a joy and other artists (and everything) inspired me but I’ve lost that, hope it’s temporary…
    - Tech: yes, need ergonomic & intuitive tech, I was given an i-phone but although I’ve used Macs for 20(?) years I couldn’t get on with it: too heavy, horrid to hold (too square and flat = not hand-shaped, my hands hurt and some joints are now distorted) and screen too small plus I drop loads of things and my old flip-phones never broke - even when dropped on tiles! Need new really ergonomic human-shaped (to hold) unbreakable tech - that’s easy and cheap to fix ourselves!
I don’t know if any of this interests you or anyone but I hope doctors and all try to learn about different people's abilities and needs, I’m very very tired (5 hours sleep & bad nightmare last night) so have done my best to keep it brief but that’s almost impossible for me now, often. IF docs had listened to me and believed what I KNEW and weren’t arrogant and rude and had not MADE me sign their stupid form (only ONE side, not allowed to even see or KNOW what was on the other side = SO wrong) - and so many more very seriously sub-standard and extremely dangerous WRONG practices - I wouldn’t have been almost killed in the operating theatre: I woke paralysed and suffocating and ‘died’ and was outside my body) and things like ‘RSI discussed and agreed’ (in my medical records) was a complete lie (and so much more) and IF every medic had asked ME questions, the right ones (and NOT refuse to answer as consultant did in ward round+ next day without ANYONE asking me ANYTHING but just told me to go home = my life-threatening injuries DUMPED), I wouldn’t have lost my health, my job, my friends & family, my home and… = my life as I knew it had gone. So please pass this on, thanks.

I noticed when you talk, your upper lip kind of tends to move to your right more often. What’s this about or it’s just a habitual behavior?
    Nevertheless, it fits your personality👍🏽

what advice do you have for exams really close up (20 days).....have been really low/demotivated and don't know howlong to revise...feels like i should be doing all day...during exam period, how many hours would you go for a day?

Current times have really killed peoples motivation! Everyone is different, but I personally didnt find studying late at night that valuable. So I prefer to study early in the morning, And I usually break it up in to 2 hour sections. As for how many hours to in a day, I guess that is a personal thing. Ive had times where I studied all day, from 9 am to midnight, but I'm not sure how useful that was..

saying you need to learn your study method, is odd. if you are on a degree, you will have learnt a study method already. In my expereince, those who do not have good study method, do not succeed at their school exams, anyway

Noooo.. thats not true! You can make it far just on being smart or with inefficient study techniques which often means you need to work 10 times harder or longer. It wasn't until I was working full time and studying, that I realised I needed to hone in on more specific techniques to get the best results

@@DRJUDE I'm surprised you think you need to teach people how to study. But I was told in 1st year that learning is not passive

@@DRJUDE I still some what disagree with you. But why do you make videos saying what medics earn? Most bright people will read for themselves to find out.
If a student isn't bright enough to read books to find out what the salaries are, they won't get very far in medicine anyway. Eventually they will get to a glass ceiling. Those who don't read for themselves, don't go very far, in academically orientated professions anyway. I think the videos are not very tackful, because some of us have ZERO incomes for our science.

@@DRJUDE try studying and doing science on zero income while scarping a living. That takes more will power than skill.

@@DRJUDE Been thinking on it. I still disagree with you. Unless you have been spoonfed through school exams or degree exams, by excessing home tutoring, then if you get AAAAs at school, you should have learnt at least basic efficient study method. I did and my class mates, friends and family did. Obviously as you continue into a degree, you might fine tune how you study, but over all, through my degrees, I was very successful, but my study methods never really changed. One thing that did change, was I learnt to push myself harder, so while I got a B in my school chemistry exams, I always got As in my degree chemistry exams. Basically just long hours of hard work and keeping lectures notes together in folders. I have even studied while working and training on the job, and again, apart from fitting it into a working life, not much changed.

    Summary:
    Engage emotionally while reading
Poor techniques : re reading , highlighting
    Tips:
1.)Go to your happy place to study
    2.)Start a routine
    3.)Focus on your weaknesses
4.) workout your study method (mine summary writing)
5.) be proactive (teach yourself or others or ask yourself questions)
6.) use pass questions (do them early)
7.) pick a study group (it should be someone who inspires you, highly intelligent, people who push you)
8.) make use of the write tech that you could use anywhere
