Stone Decay at Fort Snelling

Construction began on Ft Snelling, Minnesota, in 1819. In the years since then, the mortar holding the stones together has been leached away by water and redeposited as botryoidal calcareous concretions, here dubbed "Snelling's Musket Balls," which can be found along park trails.
