He was captivating, this wasn't a song, this was a masterpiece, a visual and vocal, spoken word performance. It was beautiful and meta on so many levels. This piece of art is iconic, unique and genius.
It's possible that some works do not fit into a particular genre no matter how much you want them to and are still mesmerising.
indeeeed
It's probably closer to a show tune than anything else, if you watch it with no preconceived notions. Theatrical, nuanced performance... like, if they made One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest into a musical, this song would fit right in.
Ren wrote a trilogy: "the tale of jenny & screech (full)", a very dark tale, it's absolutely incredible. To listen !!!
Thank you for commenting and hanging out with me. Can you drop a link for me??

@@antdolla702 the correct order for the trilogy is jenny's tale, Screech's Tale, and then last Violet's Tale. They're all on his channel @RenMakesMusic plus his rap bangers like The Hunger, Sick Boi, Ocean, Losing It, Power, What You Want, Genesis, etc if you like the rap side of what he does check those too he's dank in general
This was an enjoyable reaction and analysis. "Hi Ren" is the song that put Ren on everyone's radar over the past month; it went viral and has garnered more than 3.5 million views since its debut, but he has been creating great music for more than 10 years. His latest release, "Sick Boi," is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren." I am 57 y/o, and I only recently learned about Ren and have gone down this rabbit hole ever since. Many of the subjects, experiences, and emotions expressed in his songs touch me on a very personal level because I can relate to and identify with many of his struggles.
A little background on Ren that I gathered from the internet. Ren pursued a career in music from an early age. In 2009, while studying music performance at Bath Spa University, he began to experience health issues and was struggling to attend his lectures. In 2010, he was signed by Sony Records and was working on an album when his health deteriorated to the point where he was unable to continue. His illness often kept him in bed for up to 23 hours a day. Ren was initially diagnosed with depression, bipolar disorder, and chronic fatigue syndrome. It would take seven years before he was finally correctly diagnosed with autoimmunity, Lyme disease, and brain damage. Ren eventually underwent stem cell therapy in the United States, which improved his health, but it has not been a cure. He is currently in Canada for more treatments.
He plays multiple instruments, has amazing vocals, is an excellent storyteller, and is quite the philosopher and poet. Check out the trilogy "The Tale of Jenny/Screech/Violet." It is haunting and has an unforeseen conclusion; WATCH THEM IN THE STATED ORDER, as this is the flow of the storyline or just watch “The Tale of Jenny & Screech (Full),” which includes “Violet’s Tale at the end. It is another example of Ren’s genius and a master’s class in storytelling.
Ren’s collaborations with Chinchilla (“Chalk Outlines,” “How to Be Me”) are beautiful and showcase his singing voice while addressing mental health. I would watch the official live music videos. "Chalk Outlines" is one of my favorite songs right now. Ren's personal reflections are threaded through many of his songs; "Insomnia," "Depression," “Diazepam," “Penitence,” “Dear God,” “Heretic,” “Dominos,” his "Freckled Angels" album, just to name a few, all deserve a listen. His song "Money Game" (Part I & II) is another recommendation.
His performances with Sam Tompkins (“Blind Eyed,” “Earned it /Mans World / Falling,” “Walking on the Moon), Eden Nash (“Humble,” “Ocean”), Bibi (“Crutch,” “Ahiahiaoha”), Molly McKinna (“Penitence”), his former bandmate, Romain Axisa (“French Song”) are all great. Ren's performances as a member of the band "The Big Push" (which unfortunately broke up) are awesome and well worth checking out, both the busking (street performances) and their live recordings. Ren's covers of "I Shot the Sheriff," "Oh My Woman," "Wade in the Water," "An Englishman in New York," and so many others are equally impressive and really give you a sample of his vocal ability.
Ren just released his latest single, “Sick Boi.” In anticipation of his stay in Canada for more treatments, Ren prepared some music ahead of time to be released over the next 3-6 months that he expects to be gone. "Sick Boi" is almost another chapter to "Hi Ren."
I agree with everything you say. The Big Push did a farewell gig in September 2022 and it was the best concert I have ever attended. Brilliant!
This needs to go on Wikipedia as there is nothing. Only things I can add is that he also has ADHD and his full name is Ren Eryn Gill. I believe he may have also written some books. (Can be found on Amazon) I think only a signature of Ren links it back to him. It appears you’ve done as much research as me since finding him. -Love it.
@@Keeley-Rabbit-Hole Thank you. Feel free to to add, correct, copy, and paste, even to Wikipedia, if you want.
hell yeah even other viewers are giving you props for your breakdown. i feel like i learned a bunch just from reading your camera.so glad ren was able to overcome and drop bangers
He was misdiagnosed with Lyme disease. He wasn't getting the proper treatment for his actual illness
Im surprised this genious artist just flew right over your head but landed so hardcore into peoples hearts. Guess you expected more of a pure rap tune. He's got some of that aswell. I just say.. at last some meaningful skillful heartful soul speaks out with filterless energy.
hell yeah you can definitely feel his soul in this one
Anyone from the UK watching should know my Churchill insurance dog advert reference after you watch this reaction 🤣

They'll definitely surprise you! His Rap skills are unreal!!!
More layers than an onion, more Bars than a prison!
Hi Ren 🔥🔥❤️🔥🔥 Here for you and #ren ❤️
and i'm here for you
@@antdolla702 respect for keeping it 100. I might disagree with your opinion, but I still respect you for being honest with your opinion. ❤️
🎉Congratulations on 5k+🎉
yes indeed thank you!! onward to 10k
Very interesting reaction, thanks for sharing it.
The beauty of music is it’s all subjective to a listeners soul. Ren , creates work like many from personal writings and just speaking it’s truth. I love hearing new unexpected, unpredictable, non-catergory style artists.
If you liked this ; I highly suggest Chaulk Lines: incredible duo.
well said beans. is chaulk lines a group or song?
@@antdolla702 a duo with Ren and Chinchilla
Great reaction! Good thing that you have patience and great attention span, unlike some other people, so as to not lose interest in the first few minutes. And it’s a nice thing to show respect to great art when you see it. Kudos! Great reaction. If you want to see a part 2 powerful rendition, then check Sick Boi, it’s dope! Keep ‘em coming!😊
thank you cowboy!! you can definitely expect the sick boi reaction coming soon.
Good reaction, appreciate your thoughts. Ren has just released "sick boi" the first track from his new album, its much more immediate and has that beat your looking for. Would love to hear your opinion on it.
Keep stepping forwards 💙
thanks ryan...im dropping sick boi soon
Thank you for an honest reaction. I (personally) enjoyed the song being stripped down to just him and the guitar. To me it felt like the room was his brain and we watched his inner struggles which morphed into his more delusional (angel/demon) voices. Ren calls his music Bardcore and it's feels like poetry going deep and speaking about personal and weighty subjects. I haven't watched a lot of his stuff to know if they are all like this but this has something to say.
and it was live..one take..
(Mixture of 4 is what I heard)
makes it even doper
If you want some great raw beats listen to his new one "Sick Boi" - Ren's a great artist worth a closer look! Peace and love from Bavaria!
Hell yeah thank you for the comment and for hanging out with me. I’m definitely gonna drop a reaction to sick boi
