Brian, I really appreciate your taking the time to walk us through this. Following your breadcrumbs, I've been able to set up my trial version of VE Pro, even though I'm a relative newby to Studio One 5 and, for that matter, to daws in general. I'm going to switch to Cubase shortly, but this gives me a good idea of how VE Pro works. :)
Thank you for this very clear and practical approach to what seems like brain surgery on the VSL site tutorials LOL! Now I think I can get a handle on what they are talking about. Thanks for posting this one!!
Hey man, is there any tutorials on how to automate parameters from vienna in studio one? For example if I want to automate a filter sweep from the EQ on a channel in Vienna, OR if I want to on an actual kontakt instrument parameter. Thanks!
Thanks for this. I am trying to convert from Cubase to Studio One 4. Question for you if you know the answer. I would greatly appreciate a response. I have a hige VEPro setup in that use with Cubase. I am having one problem with creating the same template in Studio One with apparently seems like an oversight by Presonus. NOBODY ever seems to address the MIDI ports issue. As far as I can tell ONLY Port A is available in a single instance of VEP in Studio One. I cannot find how to get to the other ports. Do you know how? Your video does not go over that part of VEP or Studio One, but that is how I setup my current Cubase template. I have one VEP instance per instrument group. So my Brass template has roughly 128 midi tracks and 80is stereo outputs. The only way to have a setup is like this is via OTHER MIDI ports which can be user defined in VEP. I typically have about 10 ports. So, that's my issue and why I can't use Studio One right now for my big writing projects. Maybe you know how to get to the other ports in Studio One, because I still have not been able to find them...after hours and hours of f'in with it. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
@Brent Smith Hello, just wanted to comment. I'm also experiencing this issue.. as far as I can see only PORT 1 is available on Studio One. When I create a Vienna Ensemble Pro Input instrument and set it to midi PORT 2, I'm unable to create 32 outs and it routes back to the midi port 1 outs. The functionality is set up to have up to 8 ports, but you cannot create outputs rendering it useless. Will have to rethink my template strategy..
The issue is that you need to load the VST3 version of VE Pro, not the VST2 version (as you're doing in the video). It is actually wrong what you say. The version without x46 is NOT the 32bit version, it is the VST3 version, which is needed to access additional MIDI ports.
Hey Brian (my name too btw :D!) - great tutorial buddy - looking forward to getting VE Pro and trying it out. Also I take it the track playing in the background is one of yours? If so it would be great to see and hear a breakdown of it as it sounded pretty epic. Thanks for sharing this vid - much appreciated!
Thanks so much! All the music provided is from a handful of tracks I’ve written over the years, I honestly just grabbed a bunch of old tracks and put them in the background haha. I’d definitely consider doing some music tutorials or track breakdowns of them if I can import them into Studio One (all tracks in the background were created with FL Studio) or of some newer tracks as well
lol - I know how difficult the task is of importing old projects done on a different DAW to a new one - I was a Sonar user for years so loads of 'old projects' on that platform that need moving to S1 - it's a pain :D! Your music sounds great so an insight into your compositional work flow would definitely be a good thing to see and hear. Looking forward to more content from you soon B!
Hello, B. Free Productions! Please tell me why, when assigning midi channels (midi outputs) to work together with Vienna Ensemble Pro 7 in Studio One 5, it is not possible to assign them to the 10th instance. Everything ends on the 9th instance. Thank you in advance for your help!
I am not sure. I haven’t noticed that problem myself. I do know you have to set the number of outputs first in the VEP setup, and you can definitely have more than ten, you just have to make sure you have the right number set in the options.
I am trying to setup VEP7 with Studio One as well. Brent’s comment about Midi Ports caught my attention. But it seems like the best way to create a template is to have multiple instances of VEP loaded into Studio One. Each instance gives you 16 midi channels. 10 Instances shouldn’t be much of a strain on the computer and would provide 160 separate instrument tracks. Am I wrong????? If I am correct then it seems like you can create some pretty large templates with this setup. I purchased CUBASE and quickly abandoned it. I found version 10 to be very buggy and sluggish whereas Studio One seems to feel swift and bug free. Maybe it’s my system but I have never had a good experience with Cubase going back to version 4. Back in the Atari days it was awesome and the early windows versions were solid. Who knows ????? Maybe it’s me
Question: why did you choose to instantiate your FXs in S1 when you could have done so in Ensemble Pro, then call up FX plugins in S1 FX channels? (you could save additional memory that way as well).
Just personal preference. The reverb and FX sends I use are not resource heavy and I just prefer to mix and route FX within the DAW itself instead of having to switch between two windows every time.
Hello Brian, thank you for the tutorial! But there is an issue here. I's related to mixer in SO. When you add the extra outputs to each instance of VSL, it added a new channel into mixer. You can add an automation for each track to corresponding VSL output, BUT, when you have tons of channels, there is an excellent option in Studio One (when you host the instruments into Studio One) which is to hide or show all the tracks corresponding to that folder, so if the folder is open, all the tracks are showing its channels into the mixer. That is not working on this setup: all extra output channels are always there in the mixer no matter if the corresponding track is into an open or closed folder, the only track that shows or hide into mixer is the one corresponding to outputs 1/2 only. I know is a Studio One limitation. Do you know a way to fix this? it is very annoying to have all the channels showing all the time, mainly when you don't need those channels on your mixer at particular stage of your composing process. Thank you
It always just automatically sets up for me. It works the same as any instrument in Kontakt, right click the control and assign it to a knob or slider on the midi controller, or use the options in the DAW to assign the control a CC and use it for automation
@@bfree45 but how to automate CC controller to omni? For example i want to change Expression in all of my loaded instruments in Kontakt but i cant cause when i connect fader just locked to instrument on ch1 and dont work the same for other. I simply did that in FL Studio, use 1 fader for expression to all of my instruments, but i cant do the same in Studio One. Pls help! ((
vaultcry I am not sure, I don’t normally use multis or control more than one instrument at a time. Maybe check the studio one or VEP manual, or the support forums?
This method obviously works but the problem is you are loading in the Kontakt plugin for each and every instrument. But Kontakt is a multi-instrument, and you can load up to 16 instruments for each instance of Kontakt. Solution: 1. Load in the Kontakt plugin as show above. 2. Right click in the blank area on the left of the screen just below your Kontakt “box”. And choose “insert input - channel - 2 Kontakt - 2 Kontakt - 2”. So the first instrument in the Kontakt multi is automatically assigned to channel 1, the 2nd instrument in the multi is assigned to channel 2, etc. 3. Go into Kontakt and create a stereo out for each instrument in the “multi”. -- Use the batch function and select “Clear output section and create one individual channel for each instrument”. 4. Assign each instrument in KOntakt to its correct “named instrument” output. 5. Go back to studio one and enable to extra outputs in the mixer (you will see the outputs when you choose “expand”
Hey Brian! Would you have time for a FaceTime/Skype chat sometime to go over setting up S1 scoring projects? I’m a PT user now and needing to bail on it, haha.
