51:56 A tip for shading/highlights I found useful is to use a clipping mask over the color of interest, set the blend mode to "soft light", and set the color of the brush to black/white. Then you can fill in your shadows and lighter areas. It works well with cel-shading imo
Question: I draw traditionally but see like every tattoo artist online using procreate. Should I be focusing more on digital medium now? When I eventually go to start an apprenticeship would they prefer to see digital artwork in my portfolio instead of ink on paper?
I think it might depend, like if you apply and the guy is an oldhead and draws like you, maybe he might form more of a connection and hire you. As long as you do good art and it doesnt take you forever I cant imagine anyone would care if you do digital or physical
I think ultimately your preference is up to you, but I would find a friend who can let you play with their procreate, make a few sketches to completion, and save the whole process/finished sketches to your flash drive. If I were deciding on an apprentice, I'd want as much info as possible. Showing where you're at with both traditional and digital sketches might just give you the competitive edge. At the very least it shows you are open to learning and trying something new, teachable. In my experience with any mentor relationship, it's less about where you're at now than how willing you are to be taught to improve. Being adaptable will almost always be a huge asset, especially as I hear apprenticeships are super hard to come by nowadays.
Using digital just allows you to clean up the artwork a lot easier. I suck at digital artwork and will probably always draw on paper. I don't do tattoos. I work with leather, and a lot of tattoo art looks really good carved on leather.
Just a safety thing for any kids who may be watching. If you hold the sai like this, you will lose two fingers. This is a cartoon character, so he can hold them without fear, using the handles or anything else. He's probably flipping it, caught it lightly so he can toss it in his hand to stab the bad guy.
I found it very ironic, helpful tips, but the final tattoo design its just bad. Using a dark green background, with a gradient, with a dark hand at the top, holding the dark grey weapon. Its more of a cool digital art than a good tattoo design. It just lacks contrast at everything

for your portfolio traditional is best !!! For practicing, procreate is very convenient

there is no right or wrong answer. just focus on art. I have been tattooing for 10 years. just switched to procreate this year.

Norse Paganism. I practice this religion myself. It was not super known but has been making a comeback in the last 10 or so years.

Totally! For everyone using a Sai on the daily, do not hold it this way whilst fighting the foot clan. ( Unless you're a Mutant turtle )
Sai(s) don't have sharp edges ...the have points . Their primarily defense weapons .

Totally could have stretched the values but I was nervous and had limited time. Thank you for your feedback!
