  • Dr. Singal serves as a professor of medicine at the University of Louisville School of Medicine and holds the position of Director of the clinical trials program in liver diseases. He is a transplant hepatologist at Jewish Hospital and the Trager Transplant Center in Louisville, KY. Additionally, Dr. Singal contributes as a health research scientist at the VA Medical Center in Sioux Falls, SD, USA.
    His research interests span clinical and translational studies in liver diseases, including alcoholic and non-alcoholic fatty liver diseases-recently renamed Metabolic Dysfunction Associated Steatotic Liver Disease (MASLD)-as well as renal injury in cirrhosis, and porphyria. Dr. Singal's research has received funding from esteemed bodies such as the American College of Gastroenterology, the National Institute of Health, and various pharmaceutical companies. He has authored over 285 peer-reviewed articles and book chapters that have been published in both national and international journals.
    Dr. Singal is actively involved in editorial activities, serving on the editorial boards of notable journals such as Hepatology, Liver Transplantation, CGH (as of January 2024), JHEP Reports (as of January 2024), and Seminars in Liver Disease. He also holds positions as Associate Editor for Clinical Translational Gastroenterology, Current Hepatology Reports, Digestive and Liver Disease, PLoS One, Journal of Clinical Translational Hepatology, and the Journal of Clinical and Experimental Hepatology.
    Beyond his publishing efforts, Dr. Singal participates in reviewing research grants and scientific abstracts for the AGA and AASLD and is a member of the NIH study section. He has played a significant role in authoring ACG guidelines for alcoholic liver disease, co-authoring guidelines on vascular disorders of the liver, and is in the process of co-authoring guidelines on the nutritional management of patients with cirrhosis and revised guidelines on alcohol-associated liver disease. His contributions to the field have been recognized through awards such as the Edgar Achkar Visiting Professorship from the ACG and the Dr. Reddinger Lectureship at the University of Louisville. He served as the chair of the special interest group on alcohol-related liver disease for AASLD from 2020 to 2021 and is currently the Vice Chair of the Liver section of the AGA Council.
