  • Producing lime-stabilized CEBs. I made a batch with 8% lime (by weight) and a batch with 15% lime. Lime stabilization doesn't work with all kinds of dirt, but if you take the time to experiment with different earthen materials and different lime ratios, you could find a good eco-friendly alternative to cement-stabilization.

Rice water and ground rice or cooked rice as well mixed with lime and dirt I'm told is a very extensively durable mortar it's like what they use in the Wall of China.
But just think of it like this how hard does rice get if you leave it stuck to the side of the pan.
Hopefully next year when I start building mine I will post some videos of the mixes I come out with but lime is definitely on the top 10 list of best materials to mix with dirt for me.

Same. From some other videos they made it seem as though if you don’t use cement your block will disintegrate, cement is a new product so what were our ancestors using and how then are their buildings still up if cement is the only way? To my mind, the fact that lime can breathe so to speak was the deciding factor for me. I must find myself land before I build, have fun on your build!

@@ChiannaNycole yes indeed the ancients did do it better. That's always been my approach to a lot of things from natural medicine to much more.
I'm down here in the Mayan territory and I have to say they have the places where they played their Mayan ball.
It is the smoothest whitest cement I've ever seen in my life and it's awesome I'm guessing at least bare minimum 3 thousands years old.

Did 8% or 15% prove to be the better mix? I had at one time gone through some materials that seemed to be suggesting 12% was about ideal, but I'm sure it depends.

Hand blending because it is a short run?
