@@offenbachbarcarolle8400 It said that he was scared the the ropes wouldn’t hold. He made a mistake but at least he didn’t flee like a coward (Ismay did).
Most of the time, while watching giant titanic disapearring in ice cold water, I think about how he probably felt the guilt and responsibility. I must say out in silence and darkness: "It wasn't your fault. It was Titanic's fate and you got caught in the middle of it. After nearly a 100 years after the disaster we still mourn the accident. You will never be forgoten. Too young to go, too talented to perish. Blessed be God for making sailors like you." ..., for those in peril on the sea!
William McMaster Murdoch served as First Officer aboard Titanic and was the acting Officer on duty when Titanic collided with the iceberg. He did everything he knew to avoid the collision, but fate would not allow it. One third of those who survived were put into boats by his own hand
Stunning tribute. Thank you so much for putting this together. Yes, that final scene always FINISHES me! So lovely to see everyone on the Grand Staircase together; the class system doesn't matter anymore. In death we are all equal. Ewan Stewart is an awesome actor - I can't imagine anyone portraying Mr Murdoch better than he did. He really made this film for me. I can't WAIT to see him in 3D!
Murdoch u did what u had to do,u saved many lives,U gave up your life to save other and for that I respect u,U are a brave man,In honor of u and to those who died
RIP Murdoch. Por un héroe como pocos.
Ewan Stewart. Also a Scot like Murdoch. Murdoch was also a very handsome person. The photo at the end was not flattering. Look at some other photos of him.
I agree! He was definately a hero. So many survivors had him to thank in the end. I also agree, I do not think he committed suicide, especially if what Lightoller said was true, and that he was swept off the deck by a wave as the bow went under. (I believe I read that somewhere, but correct me if I'm wrong...) Great video as well! :) Murdoch as well as all the other officers should get the recognition they deserve.
William didn't shot himself ! There were officers who said that he saved people till the very end, till his very end... He didn't committ suicide, he died like a true hero James Cameron has regrets about the death scene of William, because he knows after making "Titanic" that this guy didn't shot himself. [I hope you understand what I say, I'm not an english native speaker, so I'm sorry if I speak badly] But your video still an awsome one ! You did a great job
No need for conspiracy or theories here. William Murdoch was the reason more people lived, as he was not to strict towards the Women and Children policy. However he died, we know he was a great man.
@aaanonimowa Actually he was on the starboard side when the bow took a dip and he lost his balance and fell over board. This is known as Charles Lightholler was on the port side and was thrown to the decks where he saw his friend fall into the icy waters.
There's a lot of things that are wrong in the movie. The people from his home town in Scotland didn't like how he was portrayed, because in real life he died a hero
Your all wrong 1st Officer Murdoch was aged 39 when he died, he died in the sinking in the icey cold water among the people he tried to save most of the people who survived was because of him the movie is wrong back 2003 after the movie was released the host apologised to the Irish town when he was born that he got it all wrong and would pay the town some cash for forgiveness.
One of the biggest mistakes in this movie was letting William Murdoch die by shooting himself. There are rumors that this actually happened back in 1912 but most of the surviving officers and also passengers said they saw him swimming in the cold water, trying to save lifes...
Didn't Cameron have to issue an apology to the descendants of Wm Murdoch for the way their ancestor was depicted. Because it was complete fiction, basically. You do NOT slander the memory of a man who did his duty knowing without doubt he was going to die & still carried on. What i'd like to know is if they got Mr Andrews character right, the designer of 'Titanic'. Jack & Rose see him again just before the ship sinks in a lounge in the 1st Class Lounge.
A bit late to reply. I completely agree with you in the 1997 depiction of Murdoch's last moments being false. As for Andrews, a few stewards put him in the d d deck reading/ reception room at about 1.45-1.55am. I suppose the rest is creative freedom. But given the tools and financial constraints within he had to work, I dont think anyone could do a greater job.
There was not much mention of chief officer Wilde in the film, and none of third and fourth officers Pitman and Boxhall who appeared to be pushovers in the tragedy. Murdoch, Boxhall and sixth officer Moody were in charge of the ship at the time of the iceberg collision. Wilde, Murdoch and Moody died. It was second officer Lightoller, not first officer Murdoch who survived by clinging to the collapsible boat. The other three officers who survived were Pitman, Boxhall and fifth officer Lowe.
@@stefanie4078 - Robert Hitchens was at the wheel. Lightholler was pulled into a lifeboat by Lowe. That boat was occupied by two ladies (one a teen at the time) I knew who lived in my town in Canada, the Mellingers (The daughter's married name was Mann).
