  • When the drummer of The Charlatans, Jon Brookes, died from brain cancer almost two years ago, the band was determined to carry on to honour his memory.
Jon became the driving force for them to make their latest album, Modern Nature. Rather than trying to find a full-time replacement for him, they asked a number of other drummers to feature in the tracks.
BBC Breakfast spoke to band members Tim Burgess and Mark Collins, and took a look at their new single.

Jon was an incredible drummer...make no mistake...some say underrated but his work is there to listen to forever...and to me it's totally up there with the best of the British classic players from the 60s and 70s

Went down from Scotland for the Albert Hall benefit gig and it was an amazing night, really emotional. I'm 38 years old and Jon, you created the beat to my life and I have had a fun life. RIP big man X

First Rob then Jon. This band has changed styles many times often because of great loss :1 Long live the memory of Rob and Jon.

My dad was close friends with the band and Jon brooks and Jon himself asked me if I wanted to be taught drums by him and I said no. I later came back to my dad and said I would like to as I had changed my mind. That was when he told me he had passed and that was one of my biggest regrets
