This video had a lot of exactly what I was looking for. I liked and subscribed because I’ll attempt to do this my self in the future and I can also relate to the slow and steady progress of a small channel. It all looked great!
Well done guys good video , im a builder, but never done exposed gravel paths before ,so ver helpful as i intend to do some at a property im buying in France. We can always learn new things .👌
We’re general contractors and we do concrete every once in a while and the biggest pour we did was 15 yards, a big driveway and boy talk about stressful lol ended up getting rain that day but in the end it all turned out nice
I love your video. I did a slab a bit larger. But i want to know if it is possible to make 100% mortar stair treads (reinforced of course) instead of concrete stair treads. I leftover and its cheaper than buying concrete treads. Please advise.
The one thing I noticed is you waited to long to cut your joints, recommended is 12-14 hours after finish. Cool day you was probably ok but summer time hot day if you miss this time span you will already have micro cracks they have just not showed up yet. My subs all use early entry blades and we have great results from them All in all looked good!!
@@jeraldsmith-c3e good to know, thank you! Ive gotten a lot of good advice from people with more experience taking the time to comment, much appreciated!

Great video. May I suggest not using the wooden hand made thing you used before the bullfloat. What you’re using is essentially a jitterbug, which brings more cream up to the surface, amazing for finishing but the stones will then drop below the surface and then you might not get an even wash later. Instead of doing that, wood float or bullfloat one extra time. There were some trowel marks left even after the rinse. You can eliminate those by going over it one extra time and not doing the jitterbug 👍🏽
I appreciate the tip! I struggle with having lots of 'holes' after we screed that do not get closed up after we bull float........exposed aggregate is so counter intuitive to how I learned to finish concrete! I'm always learning, thanks again.
Thank you! I have done ‘seeding’ on some stepping stones that I made with quickcrete. I have a video on my page somewhere. If you’re ordering a truck, it’s only a few extra bucks a yard for the pebbles. Let me know how it goes!
Yes! I’m not a pro…. I was having issues with the finish being too rough after screeding. Bull floating wasnt fixing it, so I use that smaller wood screed
I have heard the finish comes out darker…… not as dark as the stain I used. If you try it, let me know what you think. I was actually thinking of testing a small piece
CZeść, dziękuję za pokazanie jak to zrobić. U nas w Polsce nie jest to w ogóle popularne. Będę robił 800 m. Szkoda jeszcze że u nas nie ma takich pomp do betonu zastępujących taczki.. Pozdrawiam
is there a reason why you cut joints the next day instead of using a joint tool while the concrete is still wet? Just curious as I am looking to do something similar to this for a small walkway.
Yeah, there is just so much going on during the pour. I don’t take the chance screwing up wet control joints, it’s actually not too bad cutting the concrete with the saw
One last thing and crucial step you missed my friend was washing the concrete with muriatic acid. When concrete cures it exceeds those white mineral deposits. The acid will clean that all up, then you can seal for a beautiful finish.
@@thedustybuilder Yes it does. Because it takes away the whiteness of the concrete, revealing the dark rocks. Use 4:1 water to muriatic acid ratio or slightly stronger, you should hear it sizzle a little bit, and just scrub around with a hard brush the day you come to cut then rinse off. It also slightly etches the concrete and creates a better long lasting bond for the sealer, all the companies do it
It prevents the top layer from curing so you can wash the cream away to 'expose the aggregate'. I'm sure it can be done without the retarder.......but if you wanted to save money , just using Coke has proven to work just as well.
@@thedustybuilder Thank you for your comment. I love the way you explain. I live in Croatia and it is very difficult to find such a small size of stone.
@@danielk7688 Thank you again! It probably doesn’t matter the size then, just as long as the stone is round. Bigger stone will have more texture, but might look cool

Hello! I don’t think the mortar would hold up over time, it’s too soft. It’s too much work to have to tear something like that out
