  • Liz Truss fired her chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng on Friday and scrapped parts of their economic package in a desperate bid to stay in power and survive the market and political turmoil gripping the country.

Kwarteng said he had resigned at Truss's request after being forced to rush back to London overnight from IMF meetings in Washington. Kwarteng is the country's shortest serving chancellor since 1970, and his successor will be the fourth finance minister in as many months in Britain, where millions are facing a cost of living crisis. The chancellor with the shortest tenure died.
Here is a look back at Kwarteng's last 24 hours as chancellor.

Her main, overacting priority, of which she is so eager to engage in is the "Culture (Race) War". It's funny how everyone has forgotten this about her. @NoRegertsHere Рік тому +4

It’s not one person though. Every currency is devaluing against the USD, plus no one wants to buy bonds anywhere because they’ll have to up the interest rates. That’s why central banks are buying their own bonds again. Japan is much worse, and the EU will be worse than the UK also. If a recession is coming, tax cuts if the tax rate is high, which it is, will help. This inflation was supply driven, because governments had a one focus mind during Covid and decimated supply lines. Supply lines are starting to right themselves, but the interest rate policy in the US is based on data from 3-6 months ago. Price of fuel is up, due to NATO and the US poking the Russian bear and eliciting retaliation. Also, people in the US have fixed rate mortgages for 30 years, so interest rate rises don’t affect their mortgage repayments, so the rate rises aren’t as detrimental to individuals as in the UK and other countries.

Refused to do a windfall tax on oil companies, adding 150 billion at least to the debt, oh and our economy shrunk. All in one month.
