How it must have been to be that farmboy from Iowa, coal miner's son from West Virginia, or lobsterman from Maine to be celebrated like this as the heroes that they were.
Cat said Lobster man.
Not 'lobsterman' 🤣😹😹😹😹
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Or a young cowboy from Oklahoma!!
We Americans owe a great debt to Marquis de Lafayette for helping create our country. For that reason we will always be there to help our ally France when the going gets tough.
“America has joined forces with the Allied Powers, and what we have of blood and treasure are yours. Therefore it is that with loving pride we drape the colors in tribute of respect to this citizen of your great republic. And here and now, in the presence of the illustrious dead, we pledge our hearts and our honor in carrying this war to a successful issue. Lafayette, we are here!”
- Charles E. Stanton
(Picpus Cemetery. Paris, France. July 4, 1917)
Yes. France literally went broke helping us win the Revolution. Then poverty led to its own Revolution. We also need to understand the Allied invasion from DeGaulle's point of view.
The Marquis is the man. Absolute historical chad. A man of two revolutions.
Ive always got Frances back, even if my fellow Americans dont. I joined the Legion, and still stand with it, because France gave me a second chance, where as America still kicks me every chance it gets. Maybe, I will come back, since my inapt temporaire has expired.
Damn man what’d you do?
What happened that you had to leave America?
Good luck. France is selling out to the globalist.
Your only enemy is Macron.
The US doesn't just mess with some random person for no reason. What did you do to have them kicks you every chance it gets?
An entire US army moved through Paris that day. The plans were to skirt Paris and get on with bthe war to the north of the city. However, De Gaulle , wanting to scare off the French Communists who had plans to try to ytake Paris, convinced Ike that the show of American might would be very salutary.
To think that Hitler’s instructions to the withdrawing German troops was to destroy Paris and then leave the city, instructions that were ignored. The French endured 4 years of horrific German occupation, with several resistance fighters being tortured to death.
God bless America!🇺🇸
they was lucky people to survive after the hell of war
They left Europe hundreds of years ago to establish a new country in America, years later they returned to Europe to save Europe. Damn
Then watched their own go down the tubes.
It's amazing when you think of it like that!!
While its nice seeing them being celebrated I hope the other nations involved were equally as celebrated. The British and Canadians fought just as hard to liberate France.
All Allies are celebrated but this footage are coming from the American army
My mom and her comapny of WACs marched that day in the big parade. I have a picture of them with her in the front rank heading up a column with the Arc d'Triomphe in the near background.
Brought me to tears. War is a terrible thing. We all would do well to remember
Imagine what they would think 80 yrs later ?
Wow, what a shindig.
wow good job
Just a reminder, the US and allies fought 2 fronts ...Pacific and Europe.
North Africa, Pacific and Europe
@@chrisrobert5252 US = Pacific and Europe
UK = Europe , Mediterranean/Africa and Burma
Just a reminder: the U.S. and allies screwed up everything in Europe.
@@Kreatorisbackyt The US had troops in Europe, Africa, and the pacific.
yeah but they only joined near the end when both japan and Germany already spent much of their resources.
Feel bad for all the brave soldiers that died during the war and couldn’t be there to witness being celebrated like this.
¿Como consiguieron esta gran calidad de imagen? 👌
At 3:13 - What's with the Hitler mustache?
It was a thing for a while, but like many benign things, the nazis ruined it.
Well, and look at Paris now
Isn't it glorious!
Paris has its issues but it's still an iconic and gorgeous city. I think they still appreciate our help during the war because I experienced nothing but friendliness when they spoke to me.
@@sassycat6487 There is definitely a deep connection between our countries, a lot of my fellow French citizens dislike American politics, but when it comes to the people, when you get over the langage barrier, we're very similar to each other. Let's not forget both our countries grew together and were always allies (since the creation of your country) and in touch. I don't feel this way for British people or even Germans (I do like them a lot though, it's just not the same connection).
What a shame.. Its an immigrant sewer.
People have stepped backward from today's comparison.
We came as Heroes and left a legacy all but forgotten.
And again we are told the only country who mattered in fighting Hitler were the Americans. Forget the other 20 odd countries who also fought and sacrificed.
So proud to be American when I see this.
Gee, our generation never received a festive recognition like this in Hue, Da Nang, Saigon ... or San Francisco, Los Angeles, New York City, Boston or Philly either come to think about it.
However we did get a reception, of sorts. And I don't care to recall it.
Is that dance music playing in the background?
Did eisenhower and other top brass ever paid visit to honor lafayette tomb?
While French aid to us in the revolution was and is appreciated, it was microscopic compared to what we did for them in both world wars
They did. There are other restored footage showing top US and British brass there. There were salutes and a moment of silence.
DeGaulle expelled American forces from France, and was called out for the thousands buried there.
Look and see the Joy on the Faces !
We’re they throwing up the peace sign?
V for victory
@@Thoblom ohhhh! Okay!! I obviously don’t know a lot about that time period! 🫣
@@HeatherB81 Our educational system is a joke. History is now all social agenda not actually what happened. Churchill popularized the V for Victory sign and THAT is what it really means.
V for victory
Amazing 🇺🇸 Let’s Go
there was certainly gratitude, but I think above all, delight to see all the equipment such as the Germans never had, endless amounts, that
would defeat the Nazis.
I was born in december in 1944 . Tree months later .
This is the parade that the British were not invited to.
Canada too
@ralphraffles2394 sad about that. But maybe it is because we and France have a special connection. They helped us get Independence from England. And maybe if some of you including in Canada stop trying to minimize our contributions in ww2.
That is not relevant. At the time the British Forces were involved in fighting in other localility -either to the North and went on to liberate Belgium and only some of the Netherlands. It was not time to make a big party like this as the Germans were only just out of Paris -but it was impossible to avoid letting the Parisians celebrate like this. A day or so before Snipers were shooting into crowds like this despite the German surrender.
@@kilua69Perhaps because it was US and French troops that liberated Paris. British and Canadian troops liberated other cities.
it is the motorized vehicles - and gas that would have been impressive. The Germans had nothing like it, they often
used horses to draw their cars and trucks
1:26 looks an awful lot like Lee Miller
Crazy to think 98% of the people in this video are dead and gone.
They just got liberated, but didn't want Algeria to be liberated. Go figure.
at the very beginning, the Soviets join hands with Germany and invaded Poland. Germany took west Poland, Soviets took east Poland. Fascist Nazi and Communist Soviets were buddies.
They only became enemy when Hitler wanted Soviets natural resource. after the war ended, U.S gave money to Britain, Soviet, Germany and France to rebuilt the country. in 2006 Britain pay off debt to U.S 😂😂
The Soviets were no different from the Nazis, they lost tens of millions of men because they were incompetent not because they were brave.
Parisien collaboration….
More than half that crowd were probably Vichy supporters a month earlier.
Well done usa and Russia for freeing the world of nazis. When the first shot was heard, de gaule ran away and deserted France,he returned when the nazis were ran out of town, giving orders
The us pulled Frances ass out of two wars. Today France looks down their nose at us. Wtf
The U.S. always showing up towards the end to get the credit.
People are skinny many with bad teeth. No loud music behind.
That canned chatter is annoying.
Hiroshima mon amour 🤔
Tu n'as rien vu a Hiroshima.
