The cre is made from much cheaper materials. Also the electronics are different. If the cre model shuts down due to low voltage, you need to unplug the fridge from the supply to get it to reset. It won’t automatically fire back up when you recharge the battery or start the engine. The crx will just kick back to life as soon as the voltage is back up.
I need to replace the fridge on my boat and now knowing the technical difference between the crx and the cre is really making the decision harder than it should be ! This vid was really useful. Pity dometic doesn't have anything on there web site?
This is the only video (or information in the net) which points out that the CRE has the weak AMV13JZ Compressor. This Compressor does not have the cooling-power of a BD35F... as a result it runs in longer circels an consums more power... Aside from that, the CRE increases his rpm after a few minutes, so it gets louder... very anoying and sad... i dont recommend the CRE and looking foreward for a crx50
thx. I was just trying to find out those difference. I dont like the locking/vent mechanism on the CR-X. They damage over time on the fridge I've seen So thats why I would go for CR-E too.
How do you fix the CRX into an RV (VW T6) ? There must be screws at the front inside which you undo so as ro s;ice the unit out. In mine the latch was broken by a VW technician yanking on tne wrong end. Denied it of course. Now I have to replace the whole door or the locking mechanism. But I cannot get at the door unless I pull the whole fridge out?
If you look at the spec sheets, the rated current of the CRE is 5.8A (at 12V) and of the CRX it's 5.5A. So, lower current for the bigger compressor. I'm not sure, but I think the CRX is more energy efficient because of the way in which the compressor is electronically controlled (among other, soft start). But maybe the CRE-version has the same controller?
Hi Oggy, thanks for your comparison. I am still wondering what fridge should I order, because of the noise. I have a small van (T4) I am looking for the quietest option. Have you had a chance to test it on power? Thank you for your help!
Hi, im afraid i haven't tested the power as i haven't had another CRE in the workshop (we dont sell many fridges as we are more furniture builders). But i do have the CRX50 in my own T4 and its brilliant, its quiet, i can 100% say its worth the money. But if i was buying again i would probably buy the CRE and save a few pounds as we only use our van for the odd weekend and few MTB trips. Hope that helps.
@@247oggy Thank you very much for your quick answer. I follow your advice since we are going to use our van occasionally. Hope the CRE is quiet as well :)
This video is a bit confusing because I think you swapped the left/right locations of the fridges when you were looking at them front and back. I'm still not sure which is which.
Yes i did think that but i didnt get round to it as the fridge in the video was going into a customers van, if i get time when i get another one in i will try to do the power test.
@@247oggy ive heard from nick the technition at jacksonsleisure.com & niel at kiravans.co.uk that the cre use 60% more power than the crx a big difference in choice for cloudy england? and that the cre is louder in fan noise? any knowledge on this to back it up? i really prefer the look of the cre though!
@@benjahben thanks for letting me know this, wow 60% sounds like a big difference, that could be a deal breaker, the fan noise probably wouldn't bother me to be honest but its all personal preference. 👍
Had a crx 80 and now a cre 80. Other than cosmetics no real difference other than the crx being able to be a full size freezer but never needed too. The cre does the job
The bloody latch for CRE50 costs around 50 quid absolute fkin ripoff. I broke mine very early on and already epoxied it together like 5 times as it keeps breaking
I don’t want offend but I struggle to understand why people put 100% useless reviews/comparisons no information on power usage, no information on performance, you just put them together and looked at them. Won’t get that time back and now off looking for a real Review/comparison.
Thanks for taking the time to do this man, very helpful

i will look into this further, thanks for the info 👍
Mine restarts fine.
Just bought a CRE50 after watching this video👍

hmmm interesting, i never noticed cre getting louder, it does run often but I am now in Turkey with +35C inside the van at times.
Interesting video. Wonder if you compared the noise of the two different compressors? I have a CRE Waeco compressor and it is pretty noisy
Hi Oggy I really liked your seating position in the back of your van the u shape. Did you make that yourself or was it a unit that can be bought?
Hi, thank you, yes it can be bought, please see my website www.vanlifecustoms-uk.com , you can contact us from there. Thanks Liam

I think the bigger compressor use a little more electricity. I really don't know what I want of them. I'm looking now to bye one for my vWT6

Crx is built for use in boats, quite a strong lock
The blue lower drawer is for salads, I just k3ep a few tins in mine, it's a rather useless area imho, my crx is super and the door looks better
Van you test the power consumption?
Let them run side by side and measure the consumption, how many amps each uses.

The CRX can be used as a complete freezer when the freezer box is removed whereas the CRE can’t.
thanks was looking for that, missing from cre manual
