  • Spiral machining allows the tool to move in a continuous, smooth motion. This has the adavantage of reducing the levele of deceleration and acceleration and keeping a more constant chip load and therefore, increased tool life and better surface finish.

If this was true spiral machining it would not create lumps until the end but this toolpath is driven by the end result and not smooth even cutter movements. As the cutter goes out radially it starts jamming into corners that are no larger than the radius of the cutter which produces high cutter loading at those points. If this was truly a constant chip load roughing toolpath it would be a true spiral out to the diameter and then start smoothly cutting into the pockets. As it is your cutting speed is dictated by the dives into the corners - something we learned not to do when we wee turning handles on Bridgeports.

thanks sire for this professional strategy, Could you tell me what is better normal endmill or Ballnose for making helical drilling?
