Alan was an amazing storyteller. He told me so many stories as a child, many that he would make up right off the top of his head. It was one of his many talents that most people probably don't know about outside of our family.

I have listened to so many recordings of his, but I've never seen him talk before. It is wonderful to see what a clearly decent man he was. I could happily listen to him talk all day.

I am his grandson. He didn't have a son, just a daughter, who is my mother :)

Odysseus711 Mr Lomax doesn’t get even a quarter the credit he deserves...He did more for American music than most can comprehend!

Great interview about the importance of dynamics of music. Intensity, pain, and going through life makes raw music come to life

Ths man is so astounding I am taking an entire year to exclusively study his books, recordings, ideas, and findings, and anything he had anything to do with
Alan Lomax is without doubt the most important chronicler of Americn culture that ever lived, and as a side bonus he single handedly started the world music movement,
with his 10 years in the 50s working in Europe, when he left the US just before being caught up in the red scare re ameican witch hunts(he felt that coming and left until
    that blew over)

That's amazing. I guess Alan would have thousands of interesting stories from all his travels and escapades.
Reading your post reminded me of my beloved grandmother who used to do the same. Later as we learnt some of the story's weren't real; we would ask at the end whether the story was true or made up.

Did he say he discovered a "more relaxed sexual system" ??? HA! He never told me those stories while bouncing me on his knee!

I wonder, from where I can find polyfonic pygmi singing. I’ll see what google says about it.

He is so politically incorrect. Glad he doesn't have to see how things have changed
