  • To achieve the status of Super Randonneur, one must complete a 200km, 300km, 400km, and 600km brevet in a season, and was my primary goal for cycling in 2023. Join me as I share my plans, the ups and downs of execution, and the lovely scenery along the Korea Randonneurs Ttangkeut 600k.
    Special thanks to Blair, Jason, Mikhail, Mike, and Deniz for being great riding mates, and to Nina for constant support all year.

    Something Ive found handy for keeping the glasses clean is to take your spectacle cloth and put a few drops of dishwashing liquid , then moisten it. I then keep it in its own small ziplock bag. It cuts through the greasy marks, misplaced snot and dust that accumulates on your glasses.

      Thank you for watching! Are there any topics I could cover that would help you get started in the sport?
      The Korea Randonneurs is a very active group. We had over 1.7 million brevet km ridden in 2022. Most events out of Seoul seem to reach the 200 rider limit quite quickly too. If you are ever back over here, most major cities have a full series of brevets, which is really convenient.

      Thank you Horsham, I'll have to ask around about the Brompton riders results. There are several avid Brompton randonneurs here, and from what I've heard they are quite tough and strong. My Brompton will stay on commute and grocery duty.

    You have great advise on your channel. However, as much as I love the gp5000 when it’s mounted, I hate to have to fix a puncture when having a gp5000 mounted, as it fits really tight on the rims. Can’t imagine how I would feel having to do this being exhausted after 400k or so in a 600k loop 🙈

    • @overbikedrandonneuring
      @overbikedrandonneuring  4 місяці тому +1

      Thank you! I've heard that about some rims. I expected the same when I mounted them a few months after this 600, but they went on with a single tire lever. Very similar to the Schwalbe Pro One TLE: snug and secure, but not problematic to mount. I've not had a single flat with them set up tubless (touch wood) and there were no issues when remounting after replacing sealant. Great tire, but I just ordered a replacement Schwalbe for the rear this morning because it is half the price. It's hard to stomach that cost.

      @@overbikedrandonneuring so true. I´ve had one puncture on a bikepacking trip throught the alps with the GP 5000. Unfortunately i had the tan wall version mounted. It was in the middle of nowhere and it took me round 30 minutes to get the tire of the rim. Only had 200k on the tire. The sidewall got sliced from the sharp stone. Somehow we managed to get to Innsbruck, found a bike shop and got a new tire.
      Btw. You forgot some energy bars... Not for the contens :-) just for the tinfoil wrap. The tinfoil of a bar saved me back then. Put the tinfoil where the cut was between tube and tire and continued.

      @overbikedrandonneuring  Рік тому +1

      Early starts are really nice for that now that its getting hot. Curious how the rainy season will pan out. Mokpo has some nice restaurants to lunch for such a ride.
      I'd give the Brompton rider a high rate of success. They seem to be quite active in the club and at least 1 went to PBP in 2019.

      @@overbikedrandonneuring I didn't see how a Brompton could go fast since it has such small tires, but apparently with a 54 x 6 gearing at a cadence of 90 rpm they can go 45 kph, which is very impressive. I am preparing for 400 at this weekend. Thanks for sharing your experience.
    @4:42 I believe that amount of sugar+salt is for 1st all day.
    Then, how do you take it? Bring a scoop? I guess it is not going to be melt in a sungle bottle.

    • @overbikedrandonneuring
      @overbikedrandonneuring  10 місяців тому +1

      Hi Seong Min, thank you for watching. Firstly, good luck on the 400 this weekend! I carry 3 bottles for brevets. 2 are for drink and 1 is for sugar/sodium mix that lasts about 1 day depending on what whole foods I eat. I prefer bottles since Ziploc bags often open unexpectedly and make a mess. I just pour the sugar mix from the mix bottle into drink bottles before adding water. I know about how high I need to pour the mix to reach my target concentration from practice, and it's okay to make a small mistake. Marking a line on the bottle with a Sharpie can work too if it's a new strategy. Good luck!

    Are aerobars permitted for bevets?

    • @overbikedrandonneuring
      @overbikedrandonneuring  Рік тому

      Hi Avinash, most local audax clubs permit the use of aero bars, following ACP guidelines. I've only found that Audax India Randonneurs do not allow them. I messaged their office and the director noted road conditions, traffic habits, and the route selection as factors leading to this choice. A bit more detail can be found my video here: ua-cam.com/video/KgLHMecQPEg/v-deo.html
