Funny timing. I just received my VPI Signature 21 to upgrade my VPI Prime Scout with SS Zephyr Cart. Waiting on my SS Aida Cart and will be selling my Prime Scout. VPI makes incredible tables. Ironically I also have a Thorens TD-124 like you. It was the TT I grew up with in my parents system and now my backup. Still works and sound great. Enjoy your channel. Keep up the good work and happy listening .
I was envious when I saw the video where Jeffrey Lee just got the VPI. Now I'm glad for you. acquiring a TT that can give you that sound is a game changer. I modded my Rega and it took me to such an amazing place. I couldn't believe LP's could have all that. Glad the VPI's at a home where someone thinks she's special!!
Back in the early seventies I built a Dynaco pat 5 and Dynaco 400 amp and loved them. I only mention that to say that I think hooking up that Thorens to the pas-3 is exactly the right thing to do.
im late to ur party but boy im glad. im loving utr down to earth vbiews for music and the gear im over the audio files gear i love stereo. equipment im old fart. but. im getting back into my albums and art cheers from downunder
I like the older VPI tables better personally. Mainly because of looks, the new VPI tables minus the classic have that curved shape. I bought an old VPI that has been modded and love it. Congratulations 🎉
Bob your rig is a beast especially adding the VPI and tubes and having a vintage Thorens is a dream you have the best of both worlds congratulations. I’m definitely want to upgrade my phono stage and cartridge later this year that my goal thanks for the inspiration Bob.
Big congrats on the VPI, Bob! I've always been intrigued by their tables but also cautiously skeptical about what it would be like to operate that uni-pivot TA. I'm happy to hear you give it a Bob seal of approval. I 100% agree with you that the 1st US pressing of The Wall is a sonic masterpiece. I was lucky enough to randomly find a US Promo last year in Seattle while visiting my friend @trents_records (whose channel I also recommend to everyone). It's incredible! There's not enough noticeable difference to seek one out on purpose, but if you do come upon one at a decent price, I recommend you pick it up for sure. Love your video! Cheers.
I am always a sucker for vintage gear especially turntables. With me it’s the wooden plinth I don’t have the budget for extremely high end gear so I get what I can. Happy with those choices.
She looks great in her new home. When I was a younger man I might have questioned my sanity for selling the best turntable I’ve ever owned, but I’m sentimental about my Clearaudio and it’s not like it sucks. Plus I’ve got to make time for the Roksan and the Marantz and the Rotel and the other Roksan …
Nice table. I have a scout II and upgraded the motor for not that much $$. I would recommend the upgrade. I find also that an addition soundsmith puts out will also improve the ability to fine tune the VTF and azmith settings, which can be challenging with a unipoint arm. Have had my VPI for 17 years and enjoy it greatly. Thanks for all your videos
Congratulations, your new turntable is amazing ("used", but let's state it was an intensive warm-up phase... 🤗). I also like the combination with a Grado cartridge.
Enjoyed your video. Wish I knew more abt upgrading my rig. I have a marantz 6200 and a 2220 receiver. I’d like to upgrade a nice cartridge and add some balls to the receiver. You have any recommendations?? Thx art
Grado Opus? Congratulations. I have a Grado Reference Platinum 2 High Output. Extremely good Sound for that small price (Demonstrator for 350 instead of 450 Euros)
Bob, the miles Davis MOFI’s are great but the VMP versions are quite a bit better. Also the difference between The Wall OG and the Promo is night and day
I had a VPI Scout 1.1 with Koetsu Rosewood Standard, sounded great. But I sold it on eBay for (unfortunately) only 750 euros. I needed a drive with an interchangeable headshell, I have too many cartridges. Now I enjoy the new Denon DP 3000 NE (2500 Euro) Direct Drive with 9.7 inch tonearm, it sounds surprisingly as good as the VPI.
Well the two are cometely different beasts … the thorens is a true transcription table with multiple speeds, etc… it’s very convenient. Oh and it sounds great. The VPI has superior clarity and is a beautiful table. I’m very pleased with them at this time… keep in mind any table made in the 50’s comes with extra maintenance hope this helps. Cheers
Except for my dac, everything in my system is used or bought new over 30 years ago when I was young and stupid 😂 although with hindsight thise purchases were great investments 😂😂
Let the rich guys eat the depreciation: Have been listening for the last few days to my Thorens but switched to digital yesterday to explore some music and something was off. The turntable was much better . It takes a lot of digital to equal the TT . The digital sounds good don’t get me wrong but man, that vinyl is where it’s at:) time to step up my digital or just use it as a tool for exploration.
I have three turntables. My favorite is my Shinola turntable. I have a black Ortefon cartridge. The detail is great. I listen to all types of Music. John@@BOBBRADLEYCHANNEL
i used to think the wall was floyd most audiophile record...but i got the mfsl darkside of the moon. the 2nd press with the italic lettering. and that was better imo. then i got the japan mastersound wish you were here and that is also better. wall has slipped into 3rd place. My wall copy is a uk 1st press i paid $100 for about 10 years ago.
ua-cam.com/video/UI3ll_WHCmw/v-deo.htmlsi=NdMUYau2THIGCKqi One of the last things Bowie worked on. The Last Panthers episodes open with this version. One of the best tv series I have ever seen.

Much appreciated Sean! Yeah I’m loving this VPI 🤙🏼
At my age I think I'm done with upgrades but I think I could use a new cartridge. It never ends. Lol.
Richard, don’t give up on us now! Buying more gear keeps you young! ( I keep trying to convince myself this is true) cheers my friend .
Same. If I make adjustments today it’s small and for fun. New cartridge, phono
I have 2 set-ups. Vintage. Sounds good enough for me.
I was envious when I saw the video where Jeffrey Lee just got the VPI. Now I'm glad for you. acquiring a TT that can give you that sound is a game changer. Can’t go wrong with a Rega, beautiful tables. Yeah this one will sit in its place of honor! It’s here for the long haul 😺
Nice addition! It's like you said know the history when buying used , it is important.
Or at the very least a trustworthy seller!
Ive had that turntable for about 8 years now, sounds fantastic if its set-up correctly, congrats.
Nice upgrade, Bob! VPI all the way 🤘🏼🤘🏼. I absolutely love my own VPI, which is an HR-X. Top performing turntables in every way. 🍻 🤘🏼
Cheers to that!
Awesome.....!!!!!!! Big congratulations on your new acquisition. Thank you for sharing Sir..............!!!!! 👊
Cheers sir!🤙🏼

Congrats on starting out the new year with a bang.
Cheers!
Great turntable, congratulations😊 👍 👏 🎶
Thanks Kenny!
Agree on The Wall - but pretty damn dark. I need to spin Black Star again soon. You’ve really got it all dialed in Bob. 👍🏻
The wall is dark, goodbye blue sky 🤯🤯🤯 cheers Tim!
Love that Rolling Stones 12" ..They were an oddity at the time & the extended mix is sweet !
It sounds killer.
I am also on the gear lookie-lookie list in 2024. Want to upgrade the speaker situation and maybe add a pre-amp
Congrats that’s exciting! VPI’s are great, lucky. I’m about to pull the trigger on a new table myself. Must be the year of new gear haha 🍻
2024 the year of gear … let’s go! Cheers 😺

Much appreciated Lovell, you know how it is, the man in black said it best ..one piece at a time!

I was apprehensive about the tone arm as well turns out it’s fine. The wall … just insane the goodbye blue sky so good.
I am always a sucker for vintage gear especially turntables. With me it’s the wooden plinth I don’t have the budget for extremely high end gear so I get what I can. Happy with those choices.
Hey a lot of the “standard features” on vintage tables are big money on new ones. I’m right there with you 🤙🏼
She looks great in her new home. You’re swimming in tables over there JLP! Again much appreciated!
You guys are past due teaming up on some new -drinking- record videos!

Thanks for the comments, much Appreciated 👍🏼
Nice! I have a VPI Classic Signature and am looking at picking up a Garrard 301 for a second vintage system. Love your Thorens and tube phono.
Can’t go wrong with a garrard!
Nice turntable! It must sound beautiful.
I want new gear. Just done have the know how. Need a way to get me more interested. You have any tips on channels?
Congratulations, your new turntable is amazing ("used", but let's state it was an intensive warm-up phase... 🤗). I also like the combination with a Grado cartridge.
I think it’s finally gonna get out to work! Cheers
You had to tell me about that In a Silent Way MOFI..... Now I have to fight the impulse to get it. Ha! Cheers. Jay

After having the VPI for a bit, would you recommend it over the Thorens. Just curious since I’m in the market for an upgrade from my Rega3

Absolutely, there’s something g to be said for a physical stylus touching the grooves! Cheers
Quick question Bob, do you sit listening purely to your music?, or do you find yourself doing something at the same time like reading a book etc.
It just depends, sometimes I sit to specifically listen. Other times I crank it up and just go on about my day taking care of various things . Cheers
happy turntable happy man
Cheers to that!

Congrats Bob on getting the Scout 1.1. I have one and it’s classy looking design with a 10 lb. platter. Happy for you with your wonderful rig👍👍
What a beast of a platter! Cheers!
