We haven't had a cat knock over our tree, but my parents had to add a plant hook in the ceiling above their tree and tie the top of the tree to it so their cat wouldn't knock it over. I don't enjoy lofthouse cookies, but my kids love them.
A spray water bottle is how I kept my cats from getting on anything I didn’t want them on or to bother. You will have to stay consistent as will everybody in the house. Do not ignore them being in places you don’t want them in or on. The water along with a firm, sharp “NO”! Will train them, it may take time but stay firm and consistent. Consistence is the key. It’s just water, it’s not going to hurt them and is easy to wipe up. Tell everyone where the water bottle is “keep it handy maybe more than one for easy access so you don’t have to hunt it down. When you catch them somewhere that’s off limits you must spray them where you don’t want them while sharply, firmly saying NO!
Christmas kitten flashback! We typically get out kittens in January so by the time its their first Christmas they are more mature. Last year we adopted a feral kitten in OCTOBER! I left the bottom fourth of the tree undecorated and waited to hang any sentimental/breakable ornaments. She only climbed the tree once and thanks to my husband's quick action with a squirt bottle never did it again! Good luck!
These all turned out very well. Best to teach the cats that the tree is off limits while they're still kittens and will do less damage to the tree than big cats might. Good luck!

One of my cats climbed my trees even when she was older and too fat, she still thought she was a kitten. Now she is 12 and last year she kept taking the bows off all of the presents, so after a few days I stapled them on. She sat in front of her favorite present all month just staring at it, mad at me, not understanding why she couldn't get the ribbon off. LOL
I had trouble with my new kittens getting into everything. Talked with my vet and we just used a crate at night. It worked like a charm. They were safe and so was everything else. We used a big wire crate with a litter box at first but not too long and we removed it,.When we went to bed they did too. We still do it today and they are all grown up. Hey Kristen! I have spent the last 25 years rescuing cats with having 11 at my highest cat time… down to 2 as we have just gotten to a place of rehoming them now. Cats and kittens are like humans and they all have their own attitudes. Out of all my cats over the years, I have only had 2 cats who got into my tree or messed with the decor. We keep cardboard scratch pads around and constantly add fresh cat nip to keep them interested to that. Water guns for when they get onto or into things that they are not supposed to. We have had good luck with that but we had a cat who loved water so that didn’t work on him.

My advice for having a tree with kittens is to tie the tree to something so it will not fall on them. I had my tree in front of a window so I put 2 cup hooks in the side of the window frame to attach the rope to. You could use ribbon or twine also.
We had to put a cup hook in the ceiling and use heavy fishing line to tie the tree up after coming home twice to the tree laying on the floor. Thankfully the kids were pretty young and the ornaments unbreakable. The cat grew up and left the tree alone.
Love these! My kitten would sit in the tree and he slipped off the branch and his paw got caught in the light string. He was howling, we thought he got electrocuted. He bit my husband when he tried to release his paw, it was ugly but he never bothered the tree again!
I always would use fishing string to tie the tree in 2 places to secure the tree. Also works for babies and grandbabies. I would tie the string onto lock latches on my windows no one ever knows there attached.

I have cats and once they grew out of the real playful stage they don’t bother with my tree. Every once in awhile one of them will bat at an ornament on the bottom branch. A friend of mine, literally decades ago, made me one, and it was always one of my favorite decorations, until the hot glue dried out and the pinecones kept falling off. The dup was so close to the outrageously priced one; especially since the non-sale price was almost $500!

Lol. Oh, yes, the cats loved climbing up the Christmas tree and, yes, the tree fell over. We learned to put the tree where we could tie the top to something and stabilize it (using rope we tried to hide). Between cats and babies, we often had trees decorated on the top half only.
What I do to keep my cat from knocking my tree over is I use an artificial tree and pull all the branches forward so the back of the tree is empty, then I put the tree in a corner and use fishing line to anchor it to the wall I know it sounds strange but it works love your ideas thank you
We had 2 kittens last year at Christmas that were 6 months old. They did climb and hide inside on the branches. They kept eating our lights on the tree. I can only imagine what this year will bring. Great video! Such cute diys!

I used a lot of unbreakable bell type ornaments so I would know what they were doing. None ever went up in the tree but we always tied them up to the wall just in case. The water spray is a great idea for training!
My kittens last year got into the tree and would get to the top and would just sit on the tree. I have a shirt on my channel where she was just chillin in the tree like at the top 😂😂😂😂😂😂. You will not want to put any kind of special ornaments they will knock them off every night ❤

Cats: Right now we have 5, yes 5, cats inside and about that many feral ones outside. We don't find them, they find us! (Some have had to be tamed and others have come to us already willing and wanting to be inside.) I can't turn them away and can't stand to let them starve -- my problem! I haven't put up a Christmas tree in years. One day, years ago, I came home from work and the tree was on it's side. The next day, the same thing. The tree came down before Christmas. The next year we actually put a screw eye in the wall and tied the tree to it. That was the year the cat decided to just lay on a branch. Christmas tree branches aren't made to support a full grown cat. Since then, no tree -- but my kids and grands are almost all grown, so it doesn't really matter. If I had kiddos, I'd figure out something for the cats. Your Christmas projects: I loved, loved the lazy Susan. That was really cute. And the wooden utensils: adorable. Thanks for your inspiration!
The tree just needs to be anchored to the wall. Best way to secure it is if you have a corner to put the tree in and then you can secure it on both sides. Expect the kittens to climb up into the tree, if you can use an artificial tree that's safer. Then climbing into the tree is why you need to anchor the tree to the wall.
Love the spoons, have been going to make these for the last couple of years, your inspiration is pointing me in that direction, again! Maybe!!! 😝 As far as the kitties go…. Well, you just have to make the best of it, cats will be cats! One year we nailed a wire to the wall & attached it to the tree.
You might have to lock them in the seller for the night or when you’re going to be gone with a litter pan food and water. Or if you have a cage put them in there until morning when you can see what they’re doing.
If you decide to put up a tree with small kittens, just use a bit of permanent glue or gorilla glue and make sure the tops of your ornaments have just a bit added. We then zip tie them with green ties to the tree branches. It keeps them from getting knocked off and falling apart but also the ties blend nicely into the trees! The Lofthouse Cookie design was spot on, I loved it!

I loved your work! For the kitties,you can put your Santa treat in a covered cake plate. For the tree,put command hooks on the wall behind the tree. With floral wire tie the tree to the hooks. Don't put any ornaments you care about on the bottom of the tree. This has worked well for me for many years.

My first set of cats, never touched my tree, my second pair of cats were different of course ,their both Siamese one is a chocolate the other is a silverpoint Torti . The first year the were very interested in my tree ,so I took plastic ornaments, and bells, and stuck them on the very lower level , and they played with the lower level ornaments and bells , and left the rest alone so hopefully you can try this idea Good luck. I really love all of your Diy's in this video I couldn't just pick one because I want to make each and everyone of these Diy's they're my favorite. Kitty's are so cute but they are very curious and they love to be right by you but putting up a Christmas tree I think that's up to you and how each Kitty reacts to Christmas when I had my cat he passed away but I remember when he was a kitten my first Christmas with him was he would sleep under the tree then I saw him taking his paw and hitting the ornaments but that just was for the first year then after that he would only sleep under the tree and wouldn't do anything else.
The simplicity of the vintage Santa spoke to me. Also, thanks for the fabric paint trick for making dripping icing. Christmas will be here before we know it.... I better get to crafting!
Not to scare you with a cat and tree horror story, but once I had the most adorable kitten. He chewed on everything. He was really partial to cords and wires, mind you, this was when electronics and home computers were in their early days 25 years ago, so he chewed my answering machine cord, my NEW camcorder battery charger, my VHS tape player, the mouse cord to my computer, and yes, my Christmas tree lights when they were on. When they exploded, that just intrigued him even more and he started swatting at the sparks all over the tree before I could get them unplugged. But in his favor, he was a great mouser! Back to your projects here... I like the fake food stuff. The cookies are cute and simple and my favorite is the cookie utensils! How cute would those be added into a little arrangement with gingerbread cookie shapes (fake, of course)!
We have had many cats since I was young. Never any crazy ones like we have now 😂 my moms dog who passed used to chew up the lights when she was a puppy. I guess we will be winging it this year to see how it goes. 😂
@@KristinKay Good luck! I hope for the best as they go about learning their new surroundings. Someone once told me that when you catch them on the counters, you should have a metal can (with a lid) at the entrance to that room, it should have about 5 pebbles/stones in it and shake it when you catch them on the counters, or wherever you don't want them to be. It's impossible at night when you're sleeping, but they may associate the counter with hearing that noise they don't like & "might" stop.

We have to put a smaller tree on a plant stand! As long as you have a table that pretty much fits just the bottom of the tree, you’ll be good!

When I had my cat Tigger I was able to put up a Christmas Tree with shatterproof ornaments and Tigger never tried to climb the Christmas Tree

First Christmas we had a tree with our kittens (2 months) , the next year when they were 1 no way :)

I loved your work! For the kitties,you can put your Santa treat in a covered cake plate. For the tree,put command hooks on the wall behind the tree. With floral wire tie the tree to the hooks. Don't put any ornaments you care about on the bottom of the tree. This has worked well for me for many years.
Our first Christmas with our potato we woke up Christmas morning to a present in the fireplace...if the smelly solid variety. 😂

Hi Kristin, the Spoon and Spatula are positively adorable! And yes, Loft House Cookies are delicious, love their soft texture and sweet flavor, and don't get me started on the frosting! I have a sugar cookie recipe with sour cream in the mix, and they are the closet thing to these sugar cookies. I just add icing and Wow! Delectable! My first set of cats, never touched my tree, my second pair of cats were different of course ,their both Siamese one is a chocolate the other is a silverpoint Torti . The first year the were very interested in my tree ,so I took plastic ornaments, and bells, and stuck them on the very lower level , and they played with the lower level ornaments and bells , and left the rest alone so hopefully you can try this idea Good luck. Loved the cookies.

I really love all of your Diy's in this video I couldn't just pick one because I want to make each and everyone of these Diy's they're my favorite. Kitty's are so cute but they are very curious and they love to be right by you but putting up a Christmas tree I think that's up to you and how each Kitty reacts to Christmas when I had my cat he passed away but I remember when he was a kitten my first Christmas with him was he would sleep under the tree then I saw him taking his paw and hitting the ornaments but that just was for the first year then after that he would only sleep under the tree and wouldn't do anything else.

When our cat was young we put our Christmas tree up and everytime I turned around I had to pull the cat out of the Christmas tree

Not to scare you with a cat and tree horror story, but once I had the most adorable kitten. He chewed on everything. He was really partial to cords and wires, mind you, this was when electronics and home computers were in their early days 25 years ago, so he chewed my answering machine cord, my NEW camcorder battery charger, my VHS tape player, the mouse cord to my computer, and yes, my Christmas tree lights when they were on. When they exploded, that just intrigued him even more and he started swatting at the sparks all over the tree before I could get them unplugged. But in his favor, he was a great mouser!
Back to your projects here... I like the fake food stuff. The cookies are cute and simple and my favorite is the cookie utensils! How cute would those be added into a little arrangement with gingerbread cookie shapes (fake, of course)!
We have had many cats since I was young. Never any crazy ones like we have now 😂 my moms dog who passed used to chew up the lights when she was a puppy. I guess we will be winging it this year to see how it goes. 😂
@@KristinKay Good luck! I hope for the best as they go about learning their new surroundings. Someone once told me that when you catch them on the counters, you should have a metal can (with a lid) at the entrance to that room, it should have about 5 pebbles/stones in it and shake it when you catch them on the counters, or wherever you don't want them to be. It's impossible at night when you're sleeping, but they may associate the counter with hearing that noise they don't like & "might" stop.
