This is a pretty old design my man , to prevent radiation from leaking out you can cover the entire periphery of the reactor with neutron absorbers. And also don't forget to place RBMK cover panels on top of the entire reactor

Yeah those caps are called the RBMK cover panels and placing them manually is the only way around placing them. Also the fuel values were changed so be careful if you're playing survival. There are high chances that your reactor will explode otherwise

You can make it any size you want as long as your pc can handle it xd However the maximum size that can be displayed/controlled on one RBMK console is 15x15 so if your Reactor is bigger that then you'll need more RBMK consoles

So basically place down an Irradiation channel in between 2 fuel rods keeping in mind that neutrons will travel for 5 blocks if you are using the normal fuel rods. Now when the reactor is running you can place lithium in the irradiation channel and it will be converted to tritium. Also gold will be converted to gold-198
I am very fascinated by this mod. I like the nukes, the radiation, the machines you can build, the factories, even reactors! And other mechanical builds. I am new to this mod and I am very surprised how this mod is old, yet very cool.
Making this reactor exactly is troublesome as it leaks radiation, so much has changed in the mod when it comes to RBMKs so I would highly recommend making a newer design
2 Quick facts about the RBMK and Chernobyl. 1. Due to the tips of the control rods being made in Graphite, it actually speeds up the chain-reaction for a moment, making the core unstable when trying to stop it. 2. The most probable cause for Chernobyl is human errors in stead of the reactor itself, as RBMK reactors still exist to this day and are yet to be exploded.
Also one more great fact that I would like to add to this list 3. The control rods that are in HBMs mod RBMK reactor don't have graphite tip , thus eliminating one of the biggest flaw of a conventional real life RBMK reactor. So the only way you blow this reactor up is by overheating it by letting it run with control rods 100% out

steam connectors not connecting to the water ducts is a visual glitch in ntm reloaded. Try using NTM Extended if you want to stick to 1.12.2 version of minecraft. Also low pressure steam can be converted back to water using cooling towers making a closed loop

Amazing but one problem I had (maybe because I'm using reloaded) I couldn't get the water fluid ducts to connect to the steam outlet and also a meteor landed on my reactor so yeah. (edit I'm probably going switch due to it being a bit weird and not as much potential as the version you are using.)
Yeah that is a visual bug in the Reloaded version of NTM if you want to stay on 1.12.2 then use NTM Extended or switch to 1.7.10 where you can play the main version of the mod
The way absorbers work is they will absorb any incoming neutron and therefore bring down the reactivity of the reactor and also prevent radiation from leaking out So generally absorbers are placed on the perimeter of the reactor to control any radiation from leaking out , but now that you know what their function is you can place them anywhere you want to control the reactivity

You can always connect the water ducts on the bottom section and steam ducts on the top part of the reactor. That way there is no need for steam connectors ... So yeah that should work fine :)

You need atleast one fuel rod to supply the irradiation channel with flux in order for it to breed the material placed inside. However the more fuel rods you have the better as more flux will speed up the breeding process
There are different types of fire extinguishers in the mod which can be used to do that. Foam types will put out the fire quickly while sand types will get rid of radiation quickly

I'm sorry to hear that bro , you should try some of the recent RBMK videos that I have made , when I uploaded this video the RBMK was not updated as much as it is now , that's why this design isn't working. As for cleaning the radiation I suggest building a big concrete box around the whole thing to contain the radiation it might be leaking

Ah man sorry to hear that , this was my very first RBMK video so even I was learning alot at that point xd But yeah if you wanna learn about these reactors start making small designs that are stable to get an idea of how they work and then scale them to make bigger reactors
This is an amazing reactor and video, only change I would've made was using non self igniting fuels rods except for in the middle just in case the reactor needs to be shut down ❤️

Nah there are no jumping rods in this RBMK reactor bro , so that can't be done sorry. As for the RBMK 1000 my laptop isn't powerful enough to handle such a big reactor xd
Eh this reactor is so danger if I use Balefire I only use this fuel just 1 in reactor core and I set up the rods to 72 I see the temp temp is rissing go fast I press AZ-5 and to late….
Yeah I wouldn't recommend using this design for Balefire xd not only cause it is very old but also cause bf fuel is preferred in reactors which have coolers. F in the chat if your reactor exploded :(
I realized 2 things about the RBMK reactor, one is that the reactor does not directly output power like most other reactors, the power comes from the steam, in turn making steam turbines rotate and produce power. Two is that it seems like the RBMK reactor is 100% modular, variable in size, diffrent designs have diffrent purposes, and has TONS of fuel options.
Well many reactors in this mod as well as irl only output steam and don't make any direct power :D Also yes it is totally modular, it's one of the biggest strengths of RBMK
Ah sorry to hear that man, but this video is very old ... I made it when RBMK was first introduced in the mod. There have been so many changes to both the columns and fuel now. I recommend watching one of my recent videos on it
If it exploded that quickly either you used a fuel which was too reactive / had a linear function or your reactor had no water but I am guessing it was the former. Also this design is very old as alot of changes were made to the way rbmk works and their fuel values in the later updates that came after this video. So I recommend watching some newer videos to learn about those new blocks or experiment with them yourself and then make a design.
Nah that can't be right as the water pipes not connecting is just a visual glitch , cause the reactors work find even with them not looking like it didn't connect The reason is something else , what layout of the Reactor are you using ??
Instructions unclear: Reactor blew up mid building. I am completely serious there is radiation everywhere now. XD Thankfully I was testing in a creative world when this happened but Idk if I can remove all the radiation. I will try.
Definitely won't recommend making this reactor design as it'll irradiate your world, there are many newer designs I've made which would be preferred. Also as I make the video you can easily count out the components needed as most of my reactors are small in design and then using NEI do a cost calculation
Yeah you'll need to change the fuel to something moderate if that's the issue or add more water tanks. Basically reactor can go boom cause of multiple reasons and fixing it needs figuring out the exact cause
Can i replace the Steam Channels with Uranium Rods and change the existing Default uranium rods to steam channels? Well because i need power for my friends FEnMA thingy
This is a pretty outdated design man , it runs the risk of exploding 🥲 ua-cam.com/video/vVcfi4Mj3Eo/v-deo.html , here's a 15 x 15 design that produces alot of power. As for exchanging the rods you can do that but just make sure you've enough water in there to keep the rod skin temperature below 2000°c otherwise it goes 💥💥
A simple solution is place radiation absorbers around your RBMK and that should get rid of all the radiation... If not that then make sure to place RBMK covers on all the columns and if possible also place Neutron Absorbers on the periphery perpendicular to each fuel rod so that neutrons can't escape the reactor
Yeah this design is very old , I am posting a new video today for RBMK reactor made in 1.12.2. It is a breeding reactor which makes roughly 8 MHE/s and shouldn't explode
That was in the older versions , the newer versions have rbmk covers and also to prevent radiation you can place RBMK radiation absorbers / reflectors which will help in keeping the radiation in the reactor
Indeed cause it's a very old video and much has changed in RBMK functionality after this was uploaded. So I would recommend checking out my newer designs to get a better functioning reactor

Cause on the periphery of the reactor you need to place absorbers or emitters in every line where there is a fuel rod This design is very old and I'm gonna update it soon. Recently I have uploaded many new reactor designs which don't leak radiation you can try them tho
I don't think so ... It can work if industrial craft has RF to EU convertors Cause all power produced in HBMs mod is HE and you can convert that power into RF using convertors. Now either the MFSU has to store RF or you should have an RF to EU convertor to store all that power

Cause if you built this design then it's not properly isolated due to lack of RBMK cover blocks on top and it's a pretty old design. There were alot of changes in fuel values and RBMK columns in the updates that followed
its a visual glitch that hasn't been fixed yet, maybe try using alcater edition of the mod cause there is a chance that it has been fixed in that version

Cause I made this video quite some time ago and the mod was updated alot of times after that. Once you get low pressure steam you need to pump it into a cooling tower and there it will be converted into water. The cooling tower has multiple I/O points so you can use any one for input and output

You can always connect the water ducts on the bottom section and steam ducts on the top part of the reactor. That way there is no need for steam connectors ... So yeah that should work fine :)

I have a question, can I just use RBMK irradiation channel alone? (I need it to create bismuth) or do I have to somehow connect it to the whole RBMK reactor for it to work?
You need atleast one fuel rod to supply the irradiation channel with flux in order for it to breed the material placed inside. However the more fuel rods you have the better as more flux will speed up the breeding process

There are different types of fire extinguishers in the mod which can be used to do that. Foam types will put out the fire quickly while sand types will get rid of radiation quickly

Ok so, it does work. I did get some radiation leaked though.
The radiation leaked cause there are no neutron absorbers on the periphery of the reactor and also no RBMK covers placed on the top of each column cause when I made this video the rbmk covers were not added in the mod

I'm sorry to hear that bro , you should try some of the recent RBMK videos that I have made , when I uploaded this video the RBMK was not updated as much as it is now , that's why this design isn't working.
As for cleaning the radiation I suggest building a big concrete box around the whole thing to contain the radiation it might be leaking

But yeah if you wanna learn about these reactors start making small designs that are stable to get an idea of how they work and then scale them to make bigger reactors
This is an amazing reactor and video, only change I would've made was using non self igniting fuels rods except for in the middle just in case the reactor needs to be shut down ❤️

Yeah I wouldn't recommend using this design for Balefire xd not only cause it is very old but also cause bf fuel is preferred in reactors which have coolers. F in the chat if your reactor exploded :(

Try using a newer design, this one is very old and will also leak radiation as it is not closed off properly

I realized 2 things about the RBMK reactor, one is that the reactor does not directly output power like most other reactors, the power comes from the steam, in turn making steam turbines rotate and produce power.
Two is that it seems like the RBMK reactor is 100% modular, variable in size, diffrent designs have diffrent purposes, and has TONS of fuel options.
Well many reactors in this mod as well as irl only output steam and don't make any direct power :D
Also yes it is totally modular, it's one of the biggest strengths of RBMK

yeah you will need to pick up all the debris and get rid of the reactor to completely get rid of the radiation
The moment I put the fuel in the fuel rods, the core exploded. Why?
If it exploded that quickly either you used a fuel which was too reactive / had a linear function or your reactor had no water but I am guessing it was the former.
Also this design is very old as alot of changes were made to the way rbmk works and their fuel values in the later updates that came after this video. So I recommend watching some newer videos to learn about those new blocks or experiment with them yourself and then make a design.

Definitely won't recommend making this reactor design as it'll irradiate your world, there are many newer designs I've made which would be preferred. Also as I make the video you can easily count out the components needed as most of my reactors are small in design and then using NEI do a cost calculation

Yeah you'll need to change the fuel to something moderate if that's the issue or add more water tanks. Basically reactor can go boom cause of multiple reasons and fixing it needs figuring out the exact cause

So, i just built the reactor but when i put fuel in it the environment gets radioactive
A simple solution is place radiation absorbers around your RBMK and that should get rid of all the radiation...
If not that then make sure to place RBMK covers on all the columns and if possible also place Neutron Absorbers on the periphery perpendicular to each fuel rod so that neutrons can't escape the reactor

The problem with it is that it radiates and you can't put on a lead cloak that is radiation shielding
That was in the older versions , the newer versions have rbmk covers and also to prevent radiation you can place RBMK radiation absorbers / reflectors which will help in keeping the radiation in the reactor

I don't think so ... It can work if industrial craft has RF to EU convertors
Cause all power produced in HBMs mod is HE and you can convert that power into RF using convertors. Now either the MFSU has to store RF or you should have an RF to EU convertor to store all that power

Cause if you built this design then it's not properly isolated due to lack of RBMK cover blocks on top and it's a pretty old design.
There were alot of changes in fuel values and RBMK columns in the updates that followed

its a visual glitch that hasn't been fixed yet, maybe try using alcater edition of the mod cause there is a chance that it has been fixed in that version

why does my last turbine turn the steam to low pressure steam and not water like his? im using version 1.12.2
Cause I made this video quite some time ago and the mod was updated alot of times after that. Once you get low pressure steam you need to pump it into a cooling tower and there it will be converted into water. The cooling tower has multiple I/O points so you can use any one for input and output
