I will be 71 in August, my klr 650 is to heavy for an old guy. I got my trail 125 in February, already have 900 miles on it . It's just right to ride fire lanes and a cheap trip to town at 110 mpg.
Just received my Hunter Cub after 18 month wait. I think the Cub wins out for me due to big rack and the versatility, and yes, I am an old guy. and I did have a Honda 90 back in 1974….
I do food delivery on my monkey. I had to add the large luggage rack in the back to accomplish this, where as the trail comes with it. That being said I love my monkey but I wouldn’t mind having both! The only down fall I would say would be that the trail doesn’t have a clutch.
The no clutch lever thing is not as much of a pain as you would think it is, I've gotten quite used to it. I've thought about doing food delivery on the trail, more as a hobby than as a job.
@@calobster Monkey's small wheels are terrible compared to 18" rims. They are grossly over priced and just a marketing nostalgia trip. Like the Grom. Go ride a 2022 CB125F with the new ESp tech and engine and it's night and day! Even the Monkey and Trail 125 dash are awful compared to the excellent CB125F rectangular LCD dash. There is no comparison. I LOVE my CB125F and it's awesome in tight 40-50mph corners! Cheers.
A fun and interesting review. Thank you. I am sure it will help some people to make up their minds. I used to have a CT110 back in the 80s. It was great for going to work, shopping and trail riding, of course. Two gripes about it though. 1. The lack of a clutch lever just feels weird. Since I was used to regular bikes, I was forever grabbing empty air :-) 2. There is nowhere to grip with your knees, which again feels weird, and makes the bike wobbly in sand and mud. But other than that it is a great and very practical bike, as you said. Cheers from Canada and Merry Christmas. 🎄🛷🪆🪅🧸⛄🎅
Just remember 4200.00 dollars turns in 6700.00 after shipping n dealership fees! It's worth it! This Honda Monkey is the most popular bike in the World baby! Im not kidding!
You didn't mention the kick start that's on the CT which is why I'm going to downsize from my Suzuki DR 200 I'll never understand why Honda didn't put a kicker on all the 125's and why all the other companies seem to hate kick start especially on single cylinder cycles today, it wouldn't be like kick starting my 1000cc HD shovelhead.
a GIRL stopped me at the market to tell me it was a CUTE bike... ( the trail 125 of course ! ) :) the only downside i have experienced so far was its easy to crash ( when you arent paying attention but thats any cycle... ) and the parts are NOT cheap if even available. the good part of that tho is you get to upgrade to better stuff !
In regards to your first point about styling I think the same could be said about the Monkey in that it is like no other motorcycle. It's a toss up imo.
You didn't mention how HARD the CT125 seat is. It's the reason I sold it after 1500 miles. I'm looking at getting the Monkey now, but I'm still not enthusiastic about the 125 engine. I'd have to sell my Yamaha XT250 to get it and even though I really want one, I know the 125 engine will disappoint me (again).
@@ohwell2790 I didn't understand you. What is there to not believe? I bought the monkey and it will cruise at 55 mph. I'm very happy with it. I also bought a new Kawasaki Versys X 300 for my long distance work.
Well I don’t really have a choice, I just sold my larger motorcycle to down size to a 125. Can’t find a monkey within 1k miles of me 🤷♂️🤦♂️. This makes me feel good about settling on the CT 125
I LOVE riding tubeless tires! Plug a nail hole and back on the road in minutes. Plus, in the thorny dessert you can add sealant. BIG plus for the Monkey. I have also heard complaints of the rear tire skidding when downshifting the "automatic trans" on the Trail. Here is a video of my Papio (Grom clone) riding Onion Creek, offroad outside Moab, Utah: ua-cam.com/video/xcUd88QC-dw/v-deo.htmlsi=rGq3ktvlSDpDhs_W
Do the two have same headlights on? Same size? Been wanting to try some of monkey125’s parts on my trail and need to know if the headlight sizes are the same
Honda missed the mark by not put a dual range transmission like the old CTs. I watch quite a few videos where the rider has to push the bike over steep roads.
if they perform similar to a grom, then after some engine break in and on a calm day/flat road, one could expect to get at least up to 55mph(depending on the weight of the rider) especially after a fresh chain maintenance routine. going full tuck gets it nearly just under/right to 60, but this style of riding suites the grom far more
It’s simple, if there’s a video with a Monkey or a Trail I’m likely to watch.

@@theaustralianconundrum Nice bike; but I don't think we even get it here in North America :(
Great video, the Monkey is a great bike but for versatility the CT125 has it beat. I use mine for my Rv.
Thank you for your review brother! You Rock!
I like your videos, and hope to see more in the future!

I'm pretty sure it's the super cub. It IS the highest sold vehicle in the world. More than any other car or motorcycle.
I’m absolutely impressed with my 22 monkey whenever I ride it I smile so much my face hurts. Rode the CT not as impressed I’d rather have a clutch
Dude your content is amazing. I wish you still made videos. Stay cool little buddy
I grew up Long Beach, those houses in the background look so Long Beach.
Haha well you're close, it's in that area. North of long Beach, Lakewood/Norwalk area
Hey, eastcoastish, if I reply here does that give me a leg up to get the pegs you were giving away?

Excellent cross comparison of the two bikes. 👍
Is the seat on the CT 125 inferior. Has anyone experienced with a more comfortable aftermarket seat ?? Great stuff

Your watch looks a little like a Casio A-1000.
It's neat.
I wonder what it is.

I like the Trail 125c Monkey, and the Cub; but their gas tank sizes are awful. And at least make them a 150cc plus!
Thanks for the video. Which one is quieter? Or no difference?
Same
why did the trail cost more than the monkey if the msrp is less on the trail??
Two years later, the Honda Monkey actually costs more than the Trail 125.
Great video! Thanks
Who cares about what other people think! The Monkey is simply Awesome! Best Mini bike ever!
Need to throw on a 180cc big bore kit
CT 125 all day. That rack on the back means I can carry a lot more than the Monkey. Because beer is important.
I am an old guy and put down a deposit yesterday on a 2022 monkey . it will live next to my 500 exc and 1290r

the trail can do alot more than you think
