The remote is used to quick default your lights back to Red when they are a different color/animation. I had the non-hatch style taillights and wondered the same. It’s just to switch to “legal mode” 🤣
Any ideas for how to connect the remote properly I can’t get mine to connect

You're videos are very informational. I'd like to point out when you called the 2032 batteries - "dinosaur batteries". They're the same batteries in the key fob! 😅
Just got these lights and I love them but I can't get the app to connect

It's overrated IMO, especially those rgb underglows which is very visible, looks like christmas lights to me. 10th gen type r is a masterpiece when it comes to its sporty look, doesn't need these rainbow tail lights anymore. Sorry!
