Love, love the “tuere me et libera” aria, but the “Amen” came from a non-earthly dimension of pure spirit. Buxtehude’s music, performed by the Göteborg Baroque, makes me glad to be alive.

Easily the finest recording of this masterpiece I’ve ever had the pleasure of hearing. Bravo! Wow.

WOW ! Really perfect ! Thank you very much for uploading . I would be happy to listen to them here in my homecountry The Netherlands. I m listening to the same compositions of Buxtehude in concert with with Ensemble Correspondances in Rotterdam and Bruges in April 2023

Beautiful. The only thing I don't understand is why the singers pronounce the Latin text according to the Italian rather than the German tradition.

Thank you! The reason why we pronounce the Latin text according to the Italian tradition is that research shows that in the 17th century fex in Stockholm at court they used that pronounciation, since the italian latin was a la moda:)

I don't understand why we have different traditions at all when we have recounstructed the actual classical Roman pronunciation down to the smallest nuances of speech

@@speedyx3493 Do you think everybody should speak English with the same accent?

@speedyx3493 As you said yourself, the classical pronunciation is "reconstructed."
It isn't the natural pronunciation of latin as it came to evolve in the different European countries.
The classical pronunciation only reflects latin as it was spoken from 100 BC to 100 AD. Its pronunciation was different before and after these points, and, quite frankly, for most of its existence as a living language until today.
Buxtehude would be quite familiar with the latin as pronounced in this performance. A classical pronunciation, on the other hand, would be absolutely alien to him.
As such, it should also be alien to us in that context.
