Maybe Sexton could study Ryan Dungey who was not the fastest rider out there, but was ultra consistent and the king of the podium winning him 8 championships. Jett is the fastest rider right now but is prone to making a mistake every now and then

Chase doesn't have it in him to be okay with losing week to week, as long as he's 2nd or 3rd. Chase is more like James. Win every race, or crash trying. This sport would be dead in 2 years if everyone showed up with the mind set that dungey had in his last 2-3 years. On the other hand, chase will be like dungey as far as only winning championships when the best rider is hurt or retires.

Love that last look at Chase - the ability to anticipate the kick to the left, get off the seat and separate bike from body to allow a shift of weight at the right moment to bring it back is mind blowing for a C-grader like me! Would love that level of talent and control..

Johnny! Hello! Im glad you talked about this subject. I noticed that Chase hit that berm and it blew out. I watched a couple laps prior, the berm was solid. So Chase made the mistake and hit the berm as if it was still solid. I guess he forgot that tracks break down, you cant expect small berms to support hard hits without eventually giving way.

Re the crashes esp Sexton, James Stewart brings up a good point, about the scoop tires, its great for start line cheating, but esp at this type of track when the ruts dry out and even out of the ruts on the blue groove, it grips and overloads the front end!
How much of this is causing issues not just for Sexton, Cooper and others even in the 250s how many lead changes did we have in the 2nd moto, strange crashes!
IMO the scoop tire should be banned, have said it for sometime, we have bikes that put out amazing power and torque and are 4ts that supposedly get power to the ground so much better than 2 strokes, yet they still need a cheater tire!
Get rid of it, maybe we would see better racing and more skill based starts, rather than the mess we get off the start line esp in SX, std tires are so good these days, just irks me to death the racing is sacrificed for a start, that should tell the people running things they have a problem if the race cant be won or you have to use a cheater tire to get a good start! again maybe it shows much or how little they really know about racing dirt bikes!
Technology I love but when it influences and dominates one aspect of the sport it is not good for the sport!
Saying that I do not subscribe to that theory re a rider, eg Hannah, Johnson, McGrath, RC, JS etc, imo that is good for the sport, its lifts all ships as you like to say Johnny
But drop the scoop, drop the metal grates too!
Crutches belong for injured people, crutch's should not be used for able body people, technology can be and is mostly a crutch!

I agree with you about Chance, but before that happens he needs to improve and riding with Jett/ Hunter may just give him the edge he needs. Time is his enemy at this point. Deegan is lucky a lot when he pushes. Sometimes he goes down, but even then is never seriously hurt, which is great, but very lucky at the same time. Chance stays within himself.... but again, needs a little more time. It is possible and way more probable than Chase catching up with Jett. He will not be able to match Jett's speed or talent regardless of his efforts.
Chase is so fast, and fun to watch, but he looks stiff to me. His head is down a lot and he just doesn't look like he can bend enough. He may beat Jett from time-to-time, and more likely than not because of something Jett does wrong, but he is never going to take a championship away from him. Jett can still improve and Chase can too, but he will not catch up with JL.... no way. I am not sure we have come close to seeing what Jett is capable of.
Just my thoughts. Thanks JH, good breakdown once again.

Ryan Hughes think Chase's problem with his front wheel slide crash is due to his position on the bike.

Anything can happen but it's going to take something to happen to bring them close enough for that to come true. If Deegan plays it safe which we know he won't then of course he could ride it out to keep ahead.
Like Deegan last year, consistency would be the key for Hymas to get there and capitalizing on Deegans mistakes or mechanical failures. In a straight up speed for speed with no mistakes of course Deegan comes out on top. We are really seeing last year being repeated when Deegan was chasing Hunter now this time Deegan is the one being chased.
