I saw a recipe once under “ depression meals - miss Claira” I think her name was ( she since passed on) but it was pan fried potoatoes in olive oil with green peppers and onion when potatoes getting soft put in chopped hot dogs and stir and finish cooking - great with hot sauce
My favorite $5 dinners are any type of “oven baked” sandwich! Ham & cheese, meatball subs, pepperoni & cheese, philly style (deli roast beef onions/peppers), ruebens. Sometimes I splurge and use more expensive rolls or buns, but these types of sandwiches even taste yummy on the cheapie hamburger or hot dog buns. Add a veggie or salad and chips. Done! Deli meat freezes so well, so I buy on sale.
What I've learned from watching these from a few different people: Texas is cheaper than a lot of places I live in the Midwest and not in a huge city. The majority of these prices are unheard of!
Love it! This working mama totally understands the need for cheap, quick, easily, kid-friendly meals. Plus even though some of them aren’t the “healthiest” meals, you can totally serve with tons of veggies or a salad!
Thank you, so helpful! This can be around 5 dollars... stuffed peppers! I season ground turkey with taco seasoning and mix with rice, slice red peppers in half and take the seeds out and stuff them with the turkey/rice mixture. Pour some chicken broth in the bottom of the pan (just a little so the peppers don't stick) and bake in the oven! I get the recipe from skinnytaste. And my little one just likes to eat the turkey/rice mix.
WOW!!! These meals look great. The prices you list in TX is about 5 times cheaper than any of the same ingredients in Northern California. The recipes are still worth making. Thank you for sharing.
I love these videos! Much appreciation from a single mom on a budget. Keep ‘em coming, please! ☺️ Cheap dinners that we like: breakfast for dinner, rice and beans, tostadas, grilled cheese and soup, meatless burrito bowls, pasta, homemade pizza.
I made the Sausage Stir Fry tonight and it turned out very good. Nice smokey flavor from the sausage. I just happened to have all the ingredients at home. We're on lock down in CA and not supposed to go out for non-essential reasons. Family enjoyed it. Tell you the truth, I wouldn't have made it but your husband said it was his favorite! Thanks and stay safe!
Great ideas. I like Blts in the summer because I am a tomato snob (you can also throw some avocado on them for extra deliciousness). Also I only use serrated knives on bread you probably need to sharpen your chef knife if it won't cut tomatoes.
I'm definitely making the Sausage Casserole & the Avocado bowl. You make such simple meals that anyone can make. It's like "why didn't I think of that". Most folks already have most of the ingredients in their pantries.
Good ole southern classic. Beans, cornbread, with fried potatoes. Sauerkraut and hot dogs or use smoked sausage. I've also made polish sausage or smoked sausage cooked with canned corn. Serve with some Mac n cheese.
All are very good. My sister uses turkey for meatballs instead of beef or pork. And she’s by no means on a budget! Baked sweet potato with butter or olive oil and Parmesan cheese is delicious. Also good: salmon patties. Used canned salmon, egg, seasoned bread crumbs and onion. Tuna patties are also very good.
So i have 2 easy ideas and cheap ideas for you to try: Chicken fried rice, my kids are picky so i keep it basic: Sautee cut up boneless chicken with a pinch of salt and pepper (i do 2 chicken breasts but any cut will work) , add about 4 to 6 eggs, then add cut up green onion, mix in pan and cook until egg is mostly cooked, then add steamed rice (as much or as little as you like) and immediately splash with soy sauce and mix in. Add the soy sauce little by little and mix until it is as flavorful as you like (don't do too much at 1st because you cannot take away and it will be too salty) and enjoy!! (You can always add mixed veggies if you like) Chicken stir fry: Sautee cut up boneless chicken breast with an all purpose seasoning, add any stir fry mixed veggie you like (i do cut up peppers and onion, and slice up potatoes if i have on hand), then I add Kikkoman Stir Fry Sauce (has a green label) and pour whole bottle and add about a cup of water. Mix and cook until all veggies are tender on medium high. Then serve over white rice. We eat a lot of rice lol Love the ideas i get from your videos!!!
If you like Sauerkraut - it's an inexpensive option to add to potatoes and sausage. Crock Pot it a few hours, till potatoes are tender - it's delicious.
Gosh I got so mad when I looked up "easy recipes" that are far from easy and I'm finally starting to navigate through this cooking journey, so I'm such a beginner, but then I ran into this video and I was like OMG finally! Instant subscriber, I'll be checking out your other videos for sure! And beautiful family
Same. My son and his dad barely like anything and I’m a beginner Cook who gets panic/anxiety attacks with the smallest thing so meals like this are super helpful, and I hope she keeps them coming. 🙂
Maddie....no worries about it anymore because I stirred boiling water so it didn’t stick!! 🙄😬 My husband and I were married for 47 years and I never lived that down! You’re going to be able to make whatever you want to do. I love your videos!
I like just using different kinds of noodles, like bowties or rotini. Easier to make personal portions when serving, too. (I have a small stomach. 😁) It makes my heart happy to use fun noodles!
I break my noodles into thirds. I find it easier to eat. I also take 2 butter knives and cut it up (after cooking) for my toddler because that's the way my mom always did it for us.
You are just what I've been looking for. Other than spaghetti, I've never been able to cook. With changes in my family, I am having to learn how to plan meals as well as how to prepare them. I've wanted to give them a variety and you are helping men to do that. Thank you so much. Congratulations on the new to come addition.
Tater tot casserole. 1 bag tater tots 1 lb ground beef or turkey 1 small sweet onion 1 can cream of mushroom soup 1/2 cup milk Your choice of seasoning I use famous Dave’s burger seasoning Choice of shredded cheese Chop onion and clarify in olive oil add ground meat and brown, season with burger seasoning, add soup/ milk Spray or oil a glass baking dish and line the bottoms with tater tots. Pour over the meat/soup mixture. Bake for about 40 min in a 350 degree oven. 5 minutes before done sprinkle cheese and bake until melted. Kid favorite!
Refried bean tostadas...I just heat up a can of refried beans and cook some corn tortillas in a skillet with a little oil or cooking spray, til crispy; top the tortillas with the beans and put some cheese on top. I also add sour cream or lettuce.
Thank the lord for Ramen, Hamburger helper and $1 meals. Grew up poor as dirt and still struggling but getting better than what I had as a child. I’ll always budget where I can 💕
I make spaghetti the same exact way! I also make a pasta bake. Cook penne or mostaccioli noodles. Ground turkey or beef. Brown it. Mix in a jar of pasta sauce with meat. Put in a casserole dish 1/2 meat mix and top with cheese of your choice (I used mozzarella or Italian blend. Then add all the noodles.. the rest of the meat and top with a bunch of cheese. Put in oven at 350° until cheese is melted. so good
We make goulash so different lol the base is the same- hefty chunks of pepper, onion, tomatoes. But I add tomatoe sauce with the noodles then layer with cheese. Everything looks great! Thanks 😊
On your sweet potatoes, broccoli, cauliflower, or brussel sprouts try Aldi's Stonemill Steak seasoning... Seriously, just try it one time, it'll change your life. I roast all my vegetables with it now. Melted butter or olive oil, the seasoning and a bit of chili pepper or paprika and roast the veggies. I used to hate Brussel sprouts, now, I crave them. It's amazing.
Going shopping tomorrow, definitely trying to add two out of the three. will let you know how it turned out. I like the idea of using ground turkey instead of beef. definitely something new to try.
OH my....New subscriber here! I just got done with your video that has the AWESOME looking French Onion Casserole and then THIS video popped up! Can't wait to see it! I'm a senior disabled lady that loves to find new recipes for my caregiver to make for me. She'll fix a batch of the recipes and then make individual freezer meals for me. It seems to be working out beautifully for me. And these recipes of yours are all just a little bit different than anything else I've found here on UA-cam....and believe me, I'm subscribed to AND watch a TON of these videos!! I'm so glad I came across TheSimplifiedSaver! Have a WONDERFUL day, Sweetie! You and your family (what I could see of 'em) are adorable!❤👍 ~~ 🕊 ~~
In my family we call the goulash American chop suey. My Nana my mothers mom used to ground up ground beef with an chopped onion let them cook together until meat wasn't red or pink no more. When those were done she would open up a can of stew tomatoes and a can of tomato soup i believe and mix it all together. She then started another pot with water til it boiled. Add oil and a tad bit of salt (not to stick pasta on pasta or pasta stuck on bottom). When the pasta was done, drain and put back into cooking pot. Add butter to noodles and add all the yummy sauce and hamburger meat. Mix together and add cheese and lots of cheese. to the side of either salad or garlic bread or my favorite both lol 🤤🤤🤤🤤🤤
Great ideas for make ahead meals. A 28 ounce can of crushed tomatoes @Walmart, no salt added, averages $1.25 is a usually a healthier option than prepared spaghetti sauce. Just add garlic, italian seasoning, ground pepper, green peppers, etc. Even if you add salt the overall sodium will be less than they ready-made.
Love the salad bag for the lettuce on the sandwhich never thought of it way to save money thats a great tip. Ues chicken dinners more sandwhiches too meal ideas i think would be fun . looking great . cant wait for the next video .
Everything looks delicious I definitely will be trying the “Avocado bowl”. Thanks for these quick week day meals , so much better than drive through and so much cheaper and healthier. Love your 5$ meals ❤️
I made the sausage stir fry and the sweet potato bowls and my family loved them.! Love your videos, they have helped me so much with ideas on a limited budget. Looking forward to the $5 dessert one if you are still planning on filming. Blessings to you and your family!
Love all the meals! I’ve been in a meal rut lately, so I’m gonna give these a try. Be careful using a Dutch oven on your glass top stove, they can crack your stove. I’m not sure why they do, but I’ve known several people who have ruined their stove using cast iron on them. 😬

I have a nice easy recipe. It's called broccoli spaghetti. Cook spaghetti Add in cooked broccoli. ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, soy sauce, combine all together and enjoy.
Greetings from Ole San Antone. Those are ery good ideas. Oh and you aren't wrong about the Uncle Chris Gormet Steak Seasoning. It is perfect for every type of meat grilling esp if you are grilling outside.
I have a family of 7 to feed on a budget and I've been running out of ideas. Your videos are definitely helping me freshen up my weekly meal plans!
Me too 😩
Put a kitchen towel under your cutting board.. and it won't move around..thanks for the recipes
A wet rag works wonders a wet paper towel depending on the brand of to wet can rip and cause sliding and a wet rag u will not have to worry about it
Audie W hahahahahahahahahahahaha
i thought i was the only one to do that #relatable
Wet? It must be damp, not soaked!
I saw a recipe once under “ depression meals - miss Claira” I think her name was ( she since passed on) but it was pan fried potoatoes in olive oil with green peppers and onion when potatoes getting soft put in chopped hot dogs and stir and finish cooking - great with hot sauce
Bees Bits And Bags I love watching her videos
Her channel is Great Depression Cooking. I was sad when she passed away. I love her videos.

She was authentic. Not one of these ‘celebrity’ chefs.
I love her💗video's
Awww...Clara and her stories along with her amazing recipes ❤ I miss her 😢 I am so thankful her grandson picked up the camera and shared her with us ❤

Ground beef where I live costs $15 a pound, so yeah...
Super Moosie what?!
Kayla Koenig Yup! 😬👍

Made the sausage stir fry tonight with some leftover asparagus instead of the green beans and it was so yummy! Will be making this recipe again!
I have a question, did you use a glass Pyrex bakeware or what did you use? I'm afraid of mine shattering.
@@Vanessa_Marshall19 Pyrex is tempered glass. I.e. shouldn't shatter baking.
OMG I feel so stupid! For 40 years, I've been struggling with those darn sausage vacuum packs. Just cut it down the middle and they pop out!
Ha! I have been married for 35 years and I also thought why don't I know this!! lol She taught an old dog a new trick :)
I’m 45 and same! Just like cutting meat with scissors...duh lol😂
Same!!!
Never in my life seen that kind on sausage in vacuum packs. 😳
Same!
Just made the sausage stir fry for my family. I even tried it even though I dont eat much meat . Its good! So easy to make and so versatile
I absolutely love making goulash because it's so easy and my family loves it, there is hardly ever leftovers 😄
U can add anything to it-Italian seasonings , garlic powder, onion powder, Rotel, etc
Really cool taking the time to come up with frugal meals to give people ideas. Thank you
Crockpot and Instant pot are my favorite ones.

I’m not sure why they do,
but I’ve known several people who have ruined their stove using cast iron on them. 😬

Great ideas im kinda binge watching . Sending love from Nottingham uk xx
Hahahaha love the hubby, shocking but funny! Great recipe. Thanks!
Oh!!! Ok!!! Came across this!!! YES!!! We are all about this!!! TFS
I've watched both of your videos 2X going back again to write down the recipes! Thanks so much!
Loved seeing your husband pop in ❤️
Just made your sausage bake. Had to sub mild Italian sausage and Montreal Streak seasoning as I didn’t have the sausage and UC seasoning you used here, but it turned out beautifully. Quite delicious!
Tried the sausage stir fry tonight and it was a hit with the family. Absolutely delicious!!!! Thank you!
These are so easy when I'm sick omg thank you. Made BLTs last night. yummy yummy. Making your hubby's favorite sausage stir-fry tonight. My oven doesn't go past 375 (which can be common with low income) so i will cook the potatoes ahead in the microwave and then bakes for 1 hr to 1 hr15?

Thanks for sharing!! Love these! Wishing you a very blessed day!😊
Awesome video & Thanks for sharing!
The meal with the avocado looks really good. Thank for that
my best tip is to master rice. once you can cook it there's so much you can do! Gordon Ramsay has a 10 minute video that helped me alot. i add a few tablespoons of both soy sauce and Worcestershire sauce to the water and nothing else is needed.
Cold and rainy here today, must be time for goulash! 😉💕
I only have 9 more weeks to go! So exciting! Your meals have helped me greatly this third trimester. I just have no energy and they are so simple that I can still meal prep or they are easy enough for my husband to do for me :)
We made the sausage dish tonight. OMG so amazingly yummy. I did add a large onion to the mix. :)
Tip: if your not serrated knife can’t cut a tomato it needs sharpened. My sharp knives can cut tomatoes and veggies like butter
I like that you mention the prices . I live in the san francisco area , so prices are doubled from texas. however, these are great ideas. Not to also mention that due to the pandemic prices in sf are have gone up 20% . love your channel
What kind of flavor is that uncle seasoning that you use? It’s not by me so i wonder what I can substitute it with or make something similar. Love love love your videos ❤️
Love watching your budget dinners!
Wow hav that avocado tool & pan now I kno how to use it
Great video 👍
Please show more cooking & tips from Walmart food haul
Healthy ingredients! Thanks!
I buy ground Turkey as well. I like it better than ground beef and it's healthier.
Girl, u have changed my life. Like, you seriously have. Thank u so much for all the wonderful video's. Ur amazing and you have helped so many. I have started this week with crockpot meals. How did u learn all this cool recipes? Thank u again. Have a wonderful week.😊
Very helpful thankyou so much
That spaghetti dinner has been a family favorite for years and I love making that because it is so simple and filling! Thank you for all your ideas!
youre welcome! thank you for watching!
Ground turkey is rarely cheaper than beef. Healthier foods are usually more expensive.
For the Sausage Stir Fry, can you use macaroni instead of green beans, and turkey sausage instead of the normal sausage. I think it'd be tasty.
Add oregano, garlic powder, little basil , minced garlic, green pepper, salt and little onion and your spaghetti will be awesome!
Wow looks so good!!!! Yummy!!
Thank u. I realy apreciate ur vídeos. Help me alot.
I really appreciate your videos!
Simple and delicious and the best part it’s CHEAP!
I’m so broke right now, Im trying to just get by and I am so happy I stumbled onto your channel! Can’t wait cook these recipes up ❤️

Would love to see mexican and Italian meals. I'd be open to Greek too
I love to use Hunts sauce & I cut sausage packs that way too! TYFS.
I love the last meal and some of the ingredients I can see myself doing it. Thank you so much ma'am
"It's my FAVORITE!" 😂🤣💀
GREAT recipes. I'm loving the series.
I have a nice easy recipe. It's called broccoli spaghetti.
Cook spaghetti
Add in cooked broccoli. ground beef, garlic powder, onion powder, soy sauce, combine all together and enjoy.
Sausage, cheddar chesse, tomato sause, angel hair pasta.
Tuna Mac/cheese with garlic bread is 5.00 and feeds my family of 5 with left overs!
I bet that avocado bowl would be great with a little lemon and cilantro
And a teaspoon of super finely chopped red onion.

Add a fried egg to the avocado bowl! (That's what we do!) The runny yolk brings it all together! 😋
