      @@mariuszmroczynski3267I’m so sorry about what happened to you in England 18 years ago. I think we can agree Yad is not responsible for British immigration, just like you’re not responsible for Polish one.
      You are calling him pathetic because he has shared his experience?! Conveniently, you have missed all the positive experiences he has shared in the video - would you call him pathetic for that too?
      I’m sorry you don’t have a child in your arms, but we do, and it’s literally every airline’s policy to check-in families first as priority. Just like families will be the first ones to board planes. So yes, people with kids do get preferential treatment. Always have everywhere in the world.
      Lastly, Yad is Kurdish and evidently doesn’t think he’s a king of the world. His people are systematically slaughtered in cold blood, and his family had to fled the war, so your implication of him being a “king” is very prejudiced.

    Winter in Poland is much less depressing than in the UK. I realised it working in the UK in the winter time. You literally can't go out nowhere other than running to work and from work or to the shop. It's so windy all the time, grey and hitting you with the rain, so usually there's no possibility to go for a walk or to relax outside. That's why I started missing polish winter and when I came back I was going for long walks. It was sunny and snowy, not much wind, just great in comparison ;)

    I really like your films and you guys, but as a traveler, you need to consider a few things:
    The luggage weight limits are not about you personally but about the airport system. Overweight luggage will incur additional charges, and there is also a risk that your luggage might be weighed again during a customs check. The staff provided extra time to help you adjust your luggage, but it’s your responsibility to manage this before checking in.
    The border control staff did everything within their discretion to assist you. The issue was not about your entry stamp at the Polish border but rather the lack of a Schengen entry stamp from Latvia, where you crossed into the Schengen zone. This is a significant problem as Poland must adhere to Schengen rules, and problematic cases need to be reported. They could have detained you longer for clarification, as you might have exceeded the allowed time within the Schengen zone. They let you go quickly, but you should verify your situation before your next trip to ensure you have evidence of compliance with the rules. Currently, you only have an exit stamp but no entry stamp.
    You were significantly late at the gate. While the staff waited for you, remember that planes and trains, unlike town buses, have strict departure times and cannot wait for passengers. Other flights will not wait for those who are late due to personal issues.
    Poles can be assertive, and while they may have serious expressions or disapproval, they might still be trying to help you.
    Chopin Airport and LOT Airlines value their international passengers, especially those traveling between major destinations like India and Canada. If you believe they went beyond their limits, you should contact them directly.
    Also, be aware that foreigners entering the UK sometimes experience unpleasant treatment from border guards or other officials, who may not always be friendly or helpful. There have been instances where people were treated poorly (it was without any noticeable reason and far far worse plus time consuming than in your case) by outsourced staff who behaved similarly to border guards.
    I’m sorry to hear about your difficult experience and distress. Having had small children myself, I can empathize with your emotional reactions. Let’s work to avoid similar issues in the future. You are absolutely welcome back to Poland, and I hope your next trip will be wonderful!

What you describe is nothing compared to how British airport services treated Poles when they were not yet members of the EU. The only thing you had to deal with was the airline's lack of good service and the badge problem was most likely due to a mistake as as a UK citizen you most likely entered through the wrong gate, there are different gates for non-Schengen people. A long time ago I had a similar experience with a stamp in my passport. It was when Poland was not yet a member of the EU, although it was close. I was going to Switzerland by car, but for some reason I changed my plans and decided to fly. I stopped at a relative's on the Polish-German border, and the next day he took me to the airport in Berlin. Because he was taking me in his car, and at that time there were some facilities for residents of border regions in crossing the border, so no one checked us, we just showed our passports, but we didn't get any stamps. At the airport in Berlin, the border guard started asking me where I had crossed the border and why I didn't have a stamp. After explaining, he let me go. I flew, landed, as I said, Poland was not yet in the EU, so I stood in a long queue to check in for passengers from outside the EU. At one point, a Swiss border guard comes up to me and tells me to go to the window for EU countries. I told him that Poland was not a member, and he said that it didn't matter, I had to go. So I went. The guard at the window didn't even look at my passport, she just let me through. Again, no stamp. I had exactly the same situation on the way back. Again, I was pulled out of the queue for non-EU countries, again, no one even looked at my passport, again, no stamp. After landing in Berlin, again, the border guard was angry and confused and asked "where did you come from!", but again, it worked and he let me go. I crossed the border with Poland on foot, again without any checks or stamps. So from the whole trip, I only had two stamps in my passport, only from the Berlin airport.

      Poles are usually nice, but when they see someone's behavior, they treat it with reciprocity. It is similar with immigrants who settle here because it is our country and adapt to our rules. Possibility of error: It may happen that passport control was absent due to some organizational error at the airport. If you did not receive a stamp when entering Poland, this may create a problem if you want to prove the date of your entry into the Schengen area, especially if you are planning a longer stay.
      What to do in such a case?
      If you haven't received a stamp in your passport and you should have, the best solution is to contact the border guards at the airport and report the situation. They can explain what happened and possibly put an appropriate stamp in your passport. This is especially important if you are planning a return trip to the UK or want to extend your stay in the Schengen area in the future.

  • @blinski1
    @blinski1 2 місяці тому +12

    I'd say all the things at the airport you experienced are rather to be expected in Poland. Here you have to be very punctual and strict with your schedule, otherwise there is a high chance you would be scolded. And it can happen publicly and by otherwise very nice person. I'm not like that, I'm pretty chill with my time but I'm used to that people here are impatient, very stressed with even minor delays (of course if they personally are responsible for them) and can be mad at you and show it if you're not respecting the time whether you are their friend, colleague, client, they are your clients, guest, host, etc. And if you know your short with time and still are relaxed and doing something else, not being in a hurry, Poles nearly explode; you can almost see the fumes out of their ears and noses. So no, no lunch, no changing diaper, no explosive diarrhea for anyone as excuses. Poles would tell you you had your time, it is not always smooth with procedures, that's what this additional time is for--not for relaxing.
    Same things with all the documents that are needed. Poles are complaining about bureaucracy, but they are very bureaucratic themselves every time they can and very rarely give a pass to those without any needed detail according to some list of rules, even though it changes nothing. It is even a part of normal, person-to-person conversations sometimes! Being petty about some minor detail and trying to outprove one another with battle on who knows better some needless rules and regulations. So you really might consider yourself lucky if you encounter someone who can brush it off like nothing. It is NOT standard here when it happens. You CANNOT count on people being loose on the formalities subject. And Poles generally think that is so important that scolding you is not being rude, but their duty, so you can be a better man in the future:) (it is, not making formal mistakes and being strict with time).

    I have been flying with LOT airlines for maaany years and honestly, they've never, even once, treated me badly. Rules are rules, Chopin Airport is a large international airport, they have to follow all the principles so that everything could function well. Customs officers attitude may vary, but first and foremost they care about the safety of ALL travelers. As for the lack of a stamp in the passport - the problem was on the side of Latvia, not Poland. As for your late arrival to the gates - flight crew is always calling the last passengers over a loudspeaker before the boarding closes. I always go through security checks as quickly as possible, because the lines can be very long.

      The Polish bakery shops are honestly some of the best I've ever tried in the world! Incredible. I agree, it's more of a training issue from the airlines to ensure they don't have attitude towards customers but we can only hope this improves in the future as Poland will start to receive even more tourists in the future they need to be ready for it.

    You do not have two passport checks within the EU. If you once cross the Schengen border, you are free to move within the whole area. There is no system allowing countries to see when someone who entered other EU country crossed their border because of lack of checkpoints. This is literally how Schengen Area works. That is why you did not have your passport checked in Poland. It was not a security, it was Polish Border Guard. Also, you need to know that Polish people conducting official business often may appear as rude, but they are mostly just serious, haha. Especially you can see that when dealing with law enforcement officils (e.g. border guard). They are not really into community policing etc.

    As for the luggage weight... contrary to what someone said that it is about OSH regulations that airport employees need to adhere to - not true. I had a flight with my parents to Crete, Greece via Wizzair last year. They had only one piece of check-in luggage that was above the limit and no carry-on bags. The guy at the check-in desk just did his magic in the system and that was it. No repacking was necessary. So either something changed now or Polish Airlines (LOT) are just more strict in such situations.

    You look like a very nice couple and the experience must have been very unpleasant for you - I mean the commentary at the gate at the end. The other part was more or less normal but of course not perfect. There are limits on weight and sizes of baggages. If it was a carry-on then LOT could/should be more lenient because it is the flagship carrier in Poland. Otherwise, they are obliged to charge you for the overweight. The woman at LOT desk was grumpy but she let you go a cheap way, (so not nice but still acceptable). The woman at the border - just a bad luck but she could have been much worst. There is a rule 90/180 in Schengen - that is you can stay only 3 months every 6 months. Apparently, this rule is more and more watched in EU - she got orders to follow, probably she decided early on not to make a trouble for you in view that your wife was Latvian etc. But then she made her point - and she must issue a certain number of fines. The guy at the gates was sarcastic, it would be better if he either made a remark "please follow the rules" or simply rebooked you for another flight. But I think when you travel with children, they avoid to do so. A typical Polish family would say very humbly "I am so sorry to be late but my child .... was ill etc", then the guy would answer "don't worry, we are here to help you" and let you in. If you showed by your behavior that it was normal or acceptable to be late because you travel with a child, the guy chose to be sarcastic. It has nothing to do with how you look or where you come from. I would say that Polish nature is "order" with some "eastern" leniency towards an apologetic or sympathetic passenger. If you traveled by Air France, the best customer service in Europe, you would be waiting in a lounge for another plane and probably would have to buy a new ticket - it happened to me a few times. Once, I was late 2 min - they closed the gates and with a big smile "sorry sir, you were late".

    Some thoughts: Your experience, including the flight on Lot to Warsaw was good. You ran into problems with security at the airport on the way back.
    Poland borders Ukraine, has absorbed a lot of Ukrainian refugees and some illegals. Poland does not particularly welcome what one might delicately call Asians. Neither you nor your wife are Polish looking. Although you have probably travelled more than I have, I have probably been travelling longer, about 60 years now. It is your responsibility to obtain the required visa stamps on your passport. You know as a Brit that you are travelling to an EU country. An EU country near a war zone. So this is the first mistake: leaving the airport even if Lot staff mistakenly herded you to baggage claim instead of taking you through security and customs entering, you could have claimed your bag then found your own way to security and they would have directed you to customs and stamped your passport. You did not because nobody insisted. You won't make that mistake again. The next difficulty is the luggage. You arrive at the check in either after being delayed at security or before but with an over weight bag. Obviously there is some heavy object in one bag that was not there before. They want to see what the object is, so they ask you to empty your suitcase. There is nothing suspicious so they ask you to repack it. Finally, you are late boarding. Lot realizes they have contributed to this fiasco so they hold your flight for you, at great inconvenience to hundreds of passengers. Maybe because you have a baby and you are not a terrorist. How could the Polish security be sure of that fact before doing what they did?
    Just speculating.

You would be surprised at the level of nervousness among Czechs about what is currently happening in Germany. German policy does not enjoy a good reputation throughout the EU, hence the lack of sympathy, not only from Poles. Poles live and work in many places around the world. Many migrants also live and work in Poland, sometimes from countries hostile to Poland. What of it? Having a child does not exempt parents from following procedures, and why should it be? A parent is not a sacred cow. Children are loved, but parents should follow procedures.

Your flight from Latvia to Poland was an internal Schengen fight, this is why there was no stamping area when you landed in Warsaw. But yeah, rude. You should complain anyway. One can always say what they need to say in a polite manner, don't they?

    Thanks for the interesting video! I really like your narrative style. I agree with you about the observations. I think what you’ve presented is kind of “Poland in a nutshell.” When I was moving back after living in the USA and Austria, I knew I was going to be back in a beautiful, clean, safe, and exciting country, but I also feared the cultural shock of coming back-in Poland, there is an extraordinary high proportion of people (even if still a minority) for whom such extremely rude behavior is acceptable to exhibit. By the way, this is not racism; every Pole goes through such a thing from time to time. And the more sensitive ones, especially from good families, suffer the most. And yes, the fall and winter can be quite depressing, too. But I realized that I can build some mental resilience, stick to positive people on a daily basis, and visit places like Tenerife in winter-and then Poland is probably the best choice to live, for Polish people and beyond 😎. I wish we had more people like you! In fact, it would be my dream for Poland to retain its character while receiving some truly enriching immigration in the future, perhaps with the British people managing/staffing our customer service, for example 😊

      Thank you for sharing your experiences, it’s really insightful to read. Tenerife in the winter sounds like a great idea to beat the cold! Sorry, but if the whole plane is waiting just for you, you are the rude person, not the airline. Your family is not more important than the other passengers on the plane.
    I agree that LOT staff could be nicer. But you can look at it differently, like the guy was genuine, he was angry and he showed it. Zero customer service fakery. In countries like the US this would be unacceptable, but in Eastern and Central Europe you can sometimes be rudely reprimanded. It's a cultural difference, I guess.
    As for the rest of your experience at Chopin airport, I couldn't agree more.
    LOT's baggage rules make no sense.

    • @YadVenturess
      @YadVenturess  2 місяці тому +4

      We weren't the last ones on the plane due to our own reasons but because airport security was busy, which caused the delay, as mentioned in the video. I understand there are cultural differences in Eastern and Central Europe, but cultural differences should not prevent someone from acting humanely towards a family that was clearly trying to make it. He should have behaved more appropriately and not been condescending by saying, 'You had time to eat, but you can’t be on time?' Who is he to judge us and speak to anyone that way? This goes beyond poor customer service-it shows how he is truly a disgusting person to speak to a family in such a manner. He was not genuine at all.

      I was once the last to board a flight and the Danes in Copenhagen smiled, but clapped ironically, without any harsh looks or words. Nobody was rude. It was a "thank god you made it" attitude.
      A rapidly diminishing, but still extant, attitude in Poland in state-owned institutions and companies is that the paying customer is a nuisance, or should grovel, bow, and scrape with gratefulness at the feet of their power and authority. Screw them and that attitude.

    • @pawerybacki98
      @pawerybacki98 2 місяці тому +4

      It was the Polish bureaucracy’s fault, from what he’s saying. The airline guy not only judged them, but also offended them directly. As Poland opens up to foreigners, those rude Poles will finally realize that their behavior is pathological and should be ashamed rather than offending and shaming others.

    I agree with you on Polish airport security staff. I am Polish but live in Australia. Last year, we were flying from Wroclaw in South West Poland to Malta. At the security check, they discovered that my wife has some cosmetics in the hand luggage. They treated her as a potential terrorist, yelled at her, body searched etc. Because she was anxious they assumed she is on drugs or drunk and forced her out of queue into the toilet. Then she had to queue again, risking missing the flight. Because I was watching the scene from the distance, I saw them laughing and making jokes between themselves. We were treated horribly. There is nothing to do with you being a foreigner. My theory goes as follows. This was a regular treatment during the Iron Curtain times. Some of these airport officers must have been following behavioural patterns of their older collegues or even family members. These security positions tend to be transgenerational. Long after EU accesion, I could still see soldiers parading with arms at the airport.
    Let's hope this rude behaviour is a relict of old bad times and will go away soon. 😊
