I apologize for the glitches during the Pros & Cons portion of the video, it seems like there was some corruption with the merging that has caused some glitches.

As always great review and very informative without being boring like some other reviewers that get way too technical. Thanks :)

Thanks for these incisive, informative videos. I just realized, also, that I really like your owl + pen logo, and that haunting little piano score.

Another great video. Thank you. I have a version of these three pens too. It might have been instructive to use a Medium nib in the Pilot in your comparison, since the FA nib, as you mention, is really so very different. I appreciate the reference of the balance of the pens in your review. Many other reviewers omit to mention it, and yet the feel of the pen in the hand is really significant. I love the Pelikan because it is heavier and so well balanced in the hand, but for longer writing sessions the lighter pens come into their own. I think the Pilot would be my preference here. Thanks again. Great video.

Amazing comparison. Just thought I would make a correction here. The Pelikan M805 doesn’t “use” a brass piston. Technically, the actual mechanism that is contact with the ink is in fact plastic as they have always been. This is quite important for people who use iron gall ink for example. The brass parts is actually on the exterior of the actual piston and can be considered as a “holder” of sorts. This allows the M8XX and M1XXX to be completely disassembled in its entirety whereas the remaining Pelikan models are only meant for the nib unit to be removed (of course you can still remove the piston mechanism if so desired but you will have to be extra careful). It is important to note that while the mechanism is plastic, it is extremely reliable. So reliable in fact that it is not uncommon to find vintage pelikans with working pistons despite being 60+ years old. And if pre-1942, the cork might need replacing but that is an extreme case. This is in stark contrast to Montblanc’s various piston mechanisms which have been known to not be quite as reliable. Their most interesting mechanism was when they had a telescopic piston mechanism for some of their pens in the late ‘30s. That allowed their pens to have a very good ink capacity but unfortunately they did not use that mechanism for long.
Quick fun fact: The old 100 and 400 models had an incredibly large ink capacity (1.75ml for the 100 and 2ml for the 400) which is quite a lot more than modern Pelikans including the M8XX and M1XXX. The M1000 only has an ink capacity of 1.5ml despite the much larger size.
Concerning the Pilot 823, it is actually quite easy to clean. The grip section can be unscrewed from the barrel for easy cleaning. You should be careful when threading it however and while some people disassemble the pen from the filling mechanism, it is NOT recommended. It turns out most people tend to overtighten when reassembling the mechanism and this leads to cracks forming on the barrel. So I would simply recommend cleaning by disassembling only the grip section from the barrel.

Which of these would be most suited for left handed over writer? I have tried all three and earlier I was looking to get m823 but now I am even more confused.

You're still in the exploring phase of the hobby, once you find your taste and preferences, it will become less addicting and more about cutting down your collection to pens you truly love for your specific uses.

@@OwlxArt well said! Totally agree with this statement. Had 8-10 fountain pens. Cut down to a 823 F + M(nib only) and Namiki Emperor FM. Perfect setup for me. 2pens 3nibs Total.

A little hard to understand what you are saying from time to time. You tend to get very quick talking for short periods, which is kind of hard for non-native english speakers to understand. Very nice review though
