Hello from CA! Going on a family trip to Japan this October and I'm so happy I stumbled into your YT channel!! Currently binging your videos thank you :)
That intro was so cinematic! Actually the whole video is 👏🏼 I think your fortune was the best one 大吉 daikichi (although it was in reverse order so not 100% sure if it holds the same meaning!)
oh my god.. soo envious... so luv this video! so happy I came across to your channel.. I luv luv pottery and Japan ceramics too! thank you for sharing a lot of thoughts on this video.. luv that "wabi sabi" And seasons.. teary eyed while watching your video.. thank you for sharing! 💖💖💖
I'm a new subscriber ... this is my second visit to your channel and all I can say is "Yahoo" and applause. I loved making angels in the leaves, touching the lines of the pottery, and feeling the joy of the giggles and laughter. Special thanks for sharing food but not having us watch you chew. Am off to see where else you travel with your friends ... keep sharing the fun!
This video was absolutely wonderful! I’m always sharing with my bf that I love your videos & now I definitely want to go Japan! Such a beautiful place! Keep on being awesome! 💛
Hello. Thank you for coming to Hagi. I like Hagi and I moved from Kamakura, Japan to Hagi. I was very happy to see this video. I run a real estate company. Please come to Hagi again.
I absolutely loved this video. Such a peaceful and joyful place. I love the pottery and wish I could shop with you. It's so fun to see the joy you have exploring new places. Thanks Caitlin!
This video was so neat! I’ve always enjoyed your little clips you share during your pottery class so seeing you visit shops was fun! I’ll have to save some room in my luggage to get some pottery on my next Japan trip.
First of all thank you for uploading your journey, thank you for bringing genuine content back ❤ also I cried the whole time because it's been such a long time that I had a day like this with my girlfriends that 😭😭 love and hope the best for you ❤
Girl, I had zero interest in pottery until I came across your channel. Watching this video made me want to take a pottery class again. Thank you for sharing your experiences with us on the other side of the world!
I just love the way you say "pottery shopping".. although we don't see you,we can hear the smile when you say that 🤗🤗😀😀..many greetings from Germany, thank you for giving us a beautiful insight into Japanese culture.
I enjoyed this video so much I could cry! I felt so joyful watching you guys experience this all together. Thank you for taking us along with you! btw your friends all seem so lovely
@heratlas. Not sure if you’ll see this but I want to Thank You for this video!! It was in my bucket list and I was able to finally go to Hagi this spring, 3/2024. It was amazing! I was also able to explore the coast and the beautiful country side. I had no issue with the language and everyone was so kind. I really appreciate your video!!! I also got a cat mug!!!😍😍 The only difficulty was using the rural train station, 2 people and five luggages. Yep, got quite a bit of amazing pieces! 😍😍
This was the most amazing video I've ever seen on UA-cam, it sums up all I love about Japan: nature, culture, food, atmosphere, people and pottery. Thank you for this and we NEED to see an "unboxing" video of the potteries you got!
This was so calm and peaceful. I originally became interested in pottery because of my mom's love of pottery, but you've definitely helped awaken an appreciation for Japanese ceramics in particular! Also, thank you for introducing the concept of wabi sabi! I love that philosophy, and will definitely contemplate instances of it in daily life!
The turquoise pieces were so beautiful! If I lived closer I would run to get some. The animal mugs were so cute. Thanks for sharing your experiences with us.❤
I smiled all the way through this. This kind of trips with footages of the surroundings and all the little details, may it be the leaves or a statue.. I love it. It calms me down and warms my heart. Thank you for being you and doing this. Lots of love from Sweden! ❤
Your videos just keep getting better and better! Aside from the stunning visuals I also want to take the time and appreciate your narration and the amount of research that must have gone with it. I learned a lot from this one video. I like that it’s informative and at the same time shows us your personality, how you view friendships, and how you cherish memories. I can’t get enough of it. Great job!
Great video, I loved it! I feel like I learned a lot! Also, I got kind of emotional when you talked about this year, the seasons changing, and embracing the inevitable change! 🥺 Wabi Sabi is definitely a saying we should all try to live by! It makes life far more interesting 😉
I loved the bit you mentioned about wabi sabi and how it contrasts western ideals of grandeur and perfection. when i was studying art under western guidance, i felt severe pressure and that nothing was ever good enough. I went to japan last year and took just ONE sumi e class and it's changed my view on my own art and myself. I embrace more the ups and downs of my art and myself.
OMG what a perfect day; friends, beautiful autumn leaves, delicious food and retail therapy! Thank you so much for sharing. I can't wait to go back and visit Japan once this pandemic is over.
I really love this video alot. I cried at some points when you mentioned seasons 😀 I fell inlove with Hagi! I love pottery so much! I love the turquoise set and I love koi alot! Thank you for taking me on a beautiful journey of the country I love the most. ❤🌸
Eating breakfast and watching your new video has become one of my rituals 🙌 I only wish I had some beautiful pottery now to eat it off of. Definitely going to pick up some pottery when I finally get to visit Japan one day. 😍
So beautiful! ❤️🍵❤️ the pottery drying outside, the first ones with the "lids"/covers are for tea, usually gyokuro a full leaf green tea. The lid is for straining the tea😁. I LOVE Japanese pottery, the Tokoname tea pots and tea cups are TDF, and the Tamba-ware is amazing. Each prefecture has different glazes, and styles❤️.
you understand the concept of wabisabi, even not all of japanese can not explain of that. and such a nourish to our heart and soul is that beautiful scenery you took at hagi. as you might know there is another pottery town, called bizen in okayama pref. lastly what you got was jack pot 大吉! we suppose to bring back with as a lucky charm and we tie down the rest to leave unwanted result.
Definitely this is my favorite video so far!!!! It was so calming, so beautifully made and your voice and narrative skills are leveling up!!! Can't wait for next video 😅
Love this, so awesome. The temple was so beautiful, interesting. The pottery so amazing, very beautiful.Thank you so much for sharing, love this so much. 👌❤❤❤❤💯🙏
Your Omikuji or fortune-telling sheet which you got in the shrine was Daikichi or Big fortune. You definitely have a good fortune! If you like Japanese pottery, there are other famous places in Japan such as Imari, Seto, Shigaraki.
Wow, all of that pottery is beautiful! Watching your videos is slowly making me fall more in love with the beautiful pieces of art. Thank you for taking us along these adventures and sharing your love of pottery!
This is a really beautiful video! It’s the second of yours that I’ve watched, I watched the one introducing your modern Japanese home. And I have learned a lot about pottery recently because I have a good friend here in Germany who is a wood-firing ceramic artist and he is very influenced by the ancient Japanese traditions including Wabisabi (if I got the word right?). No two pieces are alike, and if the shape is uneven that’s all the more valuable… Coming out of a wood fire kiln you never know what things will look like, exactly what color the glaze it will turn out etc. It really is a fascinating art! And I sat here watching this video drinking tea out of a cup that a Slovenian friend made this fall in one of his wood firing kilns, poured from a teapot that another ceramic artist woman made. Very fitting! By the way, the special kiln that the man in one shop mentioned, which is built onto a hill and takes a lot of wood... that’s called a dragon kiln and is really something special. There are only a couple in the world, as I understand it. 💜 Also the park and restaurant that you went to are very special, just beautiful! Trees and leaves and stones and gardens and food and dishes… And hearing bits of the language… Thank you for sharing this!
I enjoyed this video so much! Before following you, I never really had much of an appreciation or knowledge of pottery but now I find myself really interested in it. I would love to have a cupboard full of pottery pieces one day!
What a great vlog. I loved it! Also your food you got at the restaurant looked amazing! Will have to make a pit stop here when we re-plan our Japan trip.
The voice overs with the beautiful video clips hit like a therapy session 😌My favorite thing about your uploads is noticing how much more comfortable you are getting with editing the videos-just seeing the new ways you're basically adding yourself(if that makes sense) and your experiences, making us actually feel like we're there. Also genuinely laughed at 18:07 "I think we're gonna be in danger at this one." 😂Such an exciting but worrying feeling.
OMG i will only go to Japan when i can afford to spend $10,000 for a handful of real pottery pieces! it’s like buying a real painting and not a print! 🙏🏾 for taking us with you!
I juat bought a 20+ yr old tea pot from Japan. And from what i understand not so many make it anymore.... i told my wife. This is exactly what i would be buying in Japan plates! ^_^ ty for this video.
I wish this kind of pottery was available in other places, I know some independent online shops have Japanese pottery but it's never the same as seeing it in real life before purchasing, yet another reason to go to Japan :p
When I get to Japan, I'll pack some extra bubble wrap. Just to be safe.
And an extra suitcase!!!
I couldn’t read everything but it says “大吉” which means the best luck. Lucky you!
You got daikichi! The best fortune! Haha. I loved all the. pottery! My dream is to have a kitchen full of only that here. Come to "kitchen street" in Tokyo if you get a chance to visit!
I really enjoyed this video. It was great seeing you all have a great girls getaway.
Welcome to Nagato Hagi(^^)
I 'm glad you had good time in my hometown Yamaguchi !!
The animal mugs like the panda and the cat were so clever and cute! Also I would’ve literally died for that bread plate and chopstick holders 😂
I look forward to passing these ceramics down to my children / family one day! If you loved this video please LIKE, Leave a comment, Share on your Instagram stories, or share the link with a friend! Thank you so so much for joining me today :)
Caitlin please don’t ever stop doing these they are amazing. I love seeing things through your lens
Japanese ceramics are insanely beautiful!!!!
I read it as daikichi as well and I think that is has the same meaning even if it's in reverse order.
"Time isn't something you can feel, but seasons you can, when seasons come and go is a reminder that change is coming, and change is, inevitable" 🥹🍂
Your choice of music makes this vlog so special and it’s like a beginning of movie in theater.
Great video! Enjoyed looking at all the pottery. Sooo beautiful!
I would have been stressed from so many choices too! 😄 Love your haul!
Wow! I didn’t know that I needed Japanese pottery in my life...but now I do ❤️
I did pottery in high school and I have always wanted to do it again. Maybe I should. I can’t wait to watch more on your pottery.
