The vocals are absolutely nuts. I'll completely agree with everyone on that. But let's talk about that band. Holy hell. Tight, simple rhythms, and they build and fall just when they need to. Perfectly accents the vocals without overpowering them or getting overlooked by them. The world is going to hell in a handbasket, but at least we'll have some great tunes.
I 100% agree. this just followed up randomly on some other stuff I was listening too and it pulled me right out of what I was doing so I could check out what was going on in my ear holes. Good stuffs
I am 72 year old Granny and after lockdown this band make me think life is still worth living.Just amazing.Thank you St Paul and the Broken Bones from the United Kingdom.
This band literally saved my life at a certain point. I think I owe part of my will to live to them. I hope youre doing well, granny. Sending my love to you and to this band.
this new discovery was absolutely a pleasant lovely surprise!!..😢..I Iisten to NPR radio and I cannot believe my timing?? ..I couldn't believe it!!..I'm been tripping on a "love my fellow humans" natural high and this has reaffirmed my faith in humanity..youkiddinme? Whatta gas people's!! 😊
Why did you listen to ANY tyrant who told you what to do? They told me to stay home, I said NEVER. They told me to wear a mask, I said NOT TODAY. Back your request with actual science and I'll weigh my options, until then, NO.
Andy W soon enough they will be everywhere.!! Birmingham and Muscle Shoals Alabama..! Where soul was born. Speaking of which I would suggest watching the documentary called Muscle Shoals on Netflix if you lie this kind of music! Peace
Not all sermons are delivered in church! Preach the gospel of the Broken Bones! This force of nature with Otis Redding sweat on his brow and Al Green smoke coming out of his ears heals the lame and the halt. Get on with it, y'all!!
This song came up on a Spotify recommendation and I was blown away by the vocals so I researched the band and found they are playing Red Rocks, my ultimate bucket list of a concert venue so we are making a 14-hour drive in July to see them. Can not WAIT.
First time I’ve ever cried in public was when I saw St Paul and the Broken Bones perform this song live. The “time time time” part started and I just couldn’t hold it together. So much soul and power. I really hope I get to see them live again.
Proper restraint shown here. What I mean to say is anyone of the band could’ve gone rogue at any moment and started wailing at level 10 or blaring their instruments but everyone is in check and it’s a beautiful thing. Too many singers on the talent shows seem to think more is better when sometimes more is just more. This is an excellent tune, done right. Addendum: Two years later and I still think they’re an awesome, tight playing band and the lead singer is phenomenal.
Bruce Angel I agree, but I feel like this song would be amazing if each player had taken a solo and just let rip... singer is amazing, but the band almost felt too restrained. Still, amazing song.
The people outside walking are a metaphor for life: don't get so caught up in your own ways that you walk by true greatness. This is soul perfection, nothing else can explane it.
God I love so many songs, but few of them gave me chills to the spine so fast and strong as this one did at 3:51 Sounds like a white Otis Reading Thanks guys, u're amazing! Keep on playing
The energy is absolutely contagious and intoxicating. I can clearly and easily see Paul behind the pulpit of a southern Pentecostal church just as easily behind this microphone.
Listen to what I say.......I’m standing close to the speaker with a cold one movin’ n groovin’ to this sound,,,,,,,respect my space cause dayummmmm its a party for one!
How do we always do this Turn ourselves around Remember when those sweet memories used to soothe us Used to make us smile We put on our Sunday best We live our quiet mess, but we'll never be merry I know I have been cold I just ain't got no soul I have had those sweet sugar thoughts but they were taken away from me Can't melt me no more, I will have to be just so unhappy We put on our Sunday best We live our quiet mess, but we'll never be merry Give me time, give me time You got to give me time Please don't leave me baby, I can't have you leaving me That ole grass ain't greener I know baby cause I have been there I know it ain't greener Time time oh sweet time Please don't leave me Time time time oh sweet time Please don't leave me, I can't have you leaving me
Tiiiiiiime Sometimes your hear a song that says how you feel inside - those complucated feelings you don't quite understand. When I hear the passion in this sermon, I know there is still hope for us all
Thank you Dad for showing me the Bluegrass Underground concert on PBS! Seriously had to pick my jaw up off the floor after watching Broken Bones and Pocket Change live down in that cave! If he hadn't turned me on to them I never would have been exposed to the brilliance and magic of Paul Janeway and the amazing band! So wish they would come to KCMO! Thank you Daddy!❤🙌🏼👏🏼
The guitarist to the left of the drummer is a good friends son. He was born on my birthday and is awesomely talented. Not only musically but as an artist putting brush to paint.
So St. Paul & the Broken Bones happened to be on my Spotify Discover Playlist. Within two minutes of listening to "I'm Torn Up", I was getting their album and watching as many videos as I possibly could on here. For I did not believe reincarnation was possible until I heard Otis Redding belting out of Paul Janeway's vocal chords.
Just got introduced to their music. AMAZING SINGER & BAND!!! ABSOLUTELY LOVE THEM!!! They will be my go to when Im having a few adult beverages by the fire❤❤❤❤❤
Wow! Thank you St. Paul & broken bones .I just got up for some reason right now it’s Christmas Eve 2:30am .turned on my phone and your band appeared.Wow ! What a great way to wake up thank you soo much for being one of a kind band that that makes awesome music.👊😎👊 sincerely, David Addi from the 209.
absolutely blown away... felt every note. no criticisms necessary. every note, every duration, every build up and break.... was just... direct injected perfect internal synchronization to the heart, soul and cerebellum.
What the HELL!!!! These boys sound just like the Gospel Soul of the 60's and 70's. Bravo Zulu (Navy Term) to you and Thank you for Blessing us with your talent. Sometimes GOD does a little extra good work.
“Baby I ain’t got no soul”
Proceeds to throw soul all over the song
🤣😁
You can’t have this much soul in your music and leave any more for yourself
Right it made me stand up
Yes indeed, Al Bundy’s comment has nailed it. These guys have got funk and soul in spades, I love their music.
Wish they would come out with more music. These guys are awesome
The vocals are absolutely nuts. I'll completely agree with everyone on that.

Jack Splash. Producer
so dope, they came to my town and played a small venue I was so happy. Yeah in this video nobody misses a thing, perfect.
I’ve seen them live twice. They are music nerds who met buy chance at a record shop. Thank an all power, if necessary that they did imho.
This is also one of Paul’s favorite songs to play live. He says it gains so much momentum.
I am 72 year old Granny and after lockdown this band make me think life is still worth living.Just amazing.Thank you St Paul and the Broken Bones from the United Kingdom.
Couldn't agree with you more!❤👏🏼

Awesome band! I love the way the singer looks like he works in a bank and has just dropped in to sing a song during his lunch break.
He did work at a bank I’m pretty sure
He was an actual banker before going music full time 😂😂
He was a banker 😃
....he legit used to work at a bank 😂
Awesome voice, with a superb band. Where the hell did these guys come from and why are they not a global sensation!!??

Andy W soon enough they will be everywhere.!! Birmingham and Muscle Shoals Alabama..! Where soul was born. Speaking of which I would suggest watching the documentary called Muscle Shoals on Netflix if you lie this kind of music! Peace
I've been listening to them since 2013
Your Mom someone at work was tellin me to watch that today, and here you are recommending it, i guess ill have to watch it now.
cuz people prefer autotune singers and mumble rappers
2023 I have listened to this song a million times!! He says I can’t have you leaving me…the grass ain’t greener

YES! They are amazing! One of the best live shows I've had the privilege to work years ago at the Dothan Opera House!
@@bethanyjoy111 I have to ask how it was!
what a sound
Hot? Man, we from Alabama. Dirty South soundtracks are unparalleled in soulful expressions.
Yes we are! Bham girl here. I have loved em since the beginning! 💕
Amen. These guys should tour with another Southern gem: The Marcus King Band.
This dude is out here looking like the guy that voices Olaf and having a voice that brings heaven to earth, and I'm in awe.
7.9 Billion people have never heard this song, and that makes me sad.
🤦♂️

My knock of some of his other vocal stylings...
I think a collab with lake street dive would make the world bust out in tears
+Brendon Bailey
She is Awesome!!!
AGREE!
Excellent idea!
Hair standing up and shivers through my body. So glad I learned of you tonight
I was not ready for the amount of soul that you guys have
These guys and Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats (similar sound, his voice is insane as well) are some of the saving graces of today's music.
HOLD MY MAGNOLIA ,THE HEART OF SOUTHERN SOUL IS STILL BEATING,
Years later and this song .... Never misses
Couldn't agree more!
Singer is remarkable.
Big Little Lies brought me here! 👀 This man can saaang! 🤭🤯🥺😭🙃🥰

How do we always do this
Turn ourselves around
Remember when those sweet memories used to soothe us
Used to make us smile
We put on our Sunday best
We live our quiet mess, but we'll never be merry
I know I have been cold
I just ain't got no soul
I have had those sweet sugar thoughts but they were taken away from me
Can't melt me no more, I will have to be just so unhappy
We put on our Sunday best
We live our quiet mess, but we'll never be merry
Give me time, give me time
You got to give me time
Please don't leave me baby, I can't have you leaving me
That ole grass ain't greener
I know baby cause I have been there
I know it ain't greener
Time time oh sweet time
Please don't leave me
Time time time oh sweet time
Please don't leave me, I can't have you leaving me
Dude...I just listened to the cut on the Half the City album. Legit tears. I'm overwhelmed. Damn.
