  • Includes four different worked examples for calculating resistance and resistivity.
    Resistivity is a property of a material that tells you how strongly it resists or conducts the flow of electric current. A low resistivity indicates a material that allows the flow of electric current. Resistivity is commonly represented by the Greek letter ρ (rho). The SI unit of electrical resistivity is the ohm-meter (Ω⋅m). Resistance of a conductor is directly proportional to the length of the conductor and inversely proportional to the cross-sectional area of the conductor.

      I don’t get it why do we have to use powers when converting mm to m for example y is 1mm squared when converted equal to 1x10 to the power -6

    Hello, first I must praise ... a brilliant lecture. Can I have an explanation, please?
    R = 2.65x10-8 x 10 / (pi) 3.14 (1.5x10-3) 2 = 3,75x10-2ohms
    in my calculation it comes out:
    R = 2.65x10-8 x 10/4.71x10-6 = 5.62x10-2ohms
    Where am I making a mistake?
    Thank You
    Kind Regards

    • @stepbystepscience
      @stepbystepscience  4 місяці тому

      What 10 do you mean, the 10^-3? That is because the wire diameter is given in mm, which must be converted to meters before it is put into the equation.
      A diameter of 3 mm is equal to 1.5 x 10^-3 meters. Does that help?
