Played this on repeat for my husband in his last 24 hours earthside. He was a huge Cat Stevens fan. Saw him live in Melbourne in the 1970s. I think us playing Cat's music on repeat in his last 24 hours helped him pass over. I like to think that was the case

I always loved this song from “Catch Bull at Four”. I remember sitting in my dorm room when I was a freshman in college in 1972, listening to this song over and over, trying to imitate Cat. And I had no idea it was him playing the piano on this song. I thought it was someone else in his band. I always enjoyed Cat’s aggressive “growl” in the old days. Enjoyed hearing it again at 1:12 and other places in the song. That’s one of the things that made Cat Stevens’ voice so distinct. No one could sound like him. 😀

Strange how songs, that were composed, so long ago..by a younger mind/singer song writer.. are still played and relevant in today's world....
He had an old soul even as a youngster. His music still speaks to me 50 years after it was written. Amazing.

Fun fact....This song was the original choice for the theme music of BBCs 'The Office'. Able to secure the rights from the label, Ricky & Steve had it rerecorded and covered without vocals. The simplistic yet euphoric Mundane key notes a perfect silliloque the match the bleek monotiny that permiates the themes of working a boring office job.
Unfortunately, an agreement with Yusef's camp could not be reached to continue with the cover, so we were treated to what eventually became the instantly recognisable theme song "Handbags & Gladbags" by Rod Stewart instead.
