  • OU Sports Extra: Berry Tramel breaks down OU's quarterback situation following Jackson Arnold's benching. In the 1,158 days since the Houston Chronicle broke the news that OU and Texas were headed to the Southeastern Conference, we’ve all asked and debated one question.
Are the Sooners SEC ready? Never once did anyone even consider asking if OU would be quarterback ready when the fateful day came.

I'll always love my Alma Mater, Oklahoma .. They make me incredibly proud across the board, even when they lose .. While it is big time college football, the players are still between the age of adult and child development .. Not pros .. so patience should be the expectation .. All will be well .. Besides, I have complete faith in Oklahoma Athletics, Coach V, Coach Litrell, Coach Alley, etc ... They represent the best college football has to offer .. They'll figure it out .. But one cannot help but have immense happiness for Coach Heupel and Tennessee Football .. and my hope is that Coach Heupel goes on and wins the big one and makes Oklahoma regret for ever having allowed him to leave the program .. If you're gonna get dominated, you'd hope it'd be from one of your own than one not having come from you at all .. same for the Coach Reilly and USC .. my perspective has changed markedly on this topic after seeing the disgrace my own country has become with people that have no interest or familiarity in making it what it was .. Go Big Orange and Sooners .. And Mr. Tramel was right in his thoughts about Dillon Gabriel .. I never understood how someone so highly touted wasn't starting and this game demonstrated exactly why that was the case and indicates a far bigger issue underlying how the US evaluates talent and develops it in not just sports but in all aspects of modern life .. Something is terribly off it seems

I’m not sure that the offensive line ever blocked. If they are getting a NIL pay check they should all be fired. Also Seth Littrel isn’t much of a good play caller. The only good thing I can say for Jackson Arnold is that he doesn’t have much time to do anything because the O line doesn’t block. Bench all of the starting line men and find some freshman that want to play. That Freshman quarterback looks good so hopefully there is some linemen on the bench that will try to at least block someone.

Not really sure why Casey Thompson's name isn't being thrown out there as well since he has started for both Texas and Nebraska. Hawkins showed some promise but if he starts turning it over and playing bad Thompson has to get a chance. Arnold has to be 100% done from here on out. He singlehandedly lost that game. That fumble he had on the 4 yard line with OU about to even the game out at 10-10 is one of the worst turnovers I've ever seen as a Sooner fan. It absolutely killed them.

For Arnold the deficiencies are mental. In the process of becoming a five star and going to all the camps and doing all the drills he’s demonstrated all the physical skills to be a pro. But, his making reads, processing and making decisions is poor. Game is way too fast for him to process and he’s just out there winging it. Heck, on the lateral, that wasn’t even a route on the tree. It was just a guy in red that appeared open. You just can’t do stuff like that at this level, period. I’m so sad for the kid, because he is a good kid, but this is big business and you’ve got to play your best players. The coaches know who those are and the players do to. In time he can become a good player but the process was too rushed. There is no real QBs coach on staff and that is not helpful either. The decision to ship Gabriel off was a really bad one. I know Arnold wanted to and felt he was ready to start, but five games of play indicate otherwise.

Jackson Arnold is a five star QB that under Seth Litrell is now a one star! He should have transferred right after Jeff Lebby left. Now, think about it, what elite QB in their right minds, would want to play in ole Seth's, run for your life offense. Who is the QB coach anyway, that's got to tell you something. Now SEC will gameplan for Michael Hawkins and break him in half!!!! If we get blown out by Texas, all hell will break loose. Big changes will have to be made. I am no Brent Unwinnables fan. I hope he gets canned this year and we get a coach who understands all phases of the game. You know, we could have had Dan Lanning, but we let that one get away. He really is and I think he'll do a good job. But if you don't have a good play Quick caller offensive coordinator then these quarterbacks cannot. Really blossom in to something better and Seth.Latrell, honestly, he's horrible at coaching offense.I don't know why we even bothered to go that route to get Him.We could do a lot better.I know we could.I mean, we're jumping into this conference and we gotta grow a pair and get better.Or we can just be at the bottom with Vandy

Our quarterbacks would be more comfortable. I'm tired of excuses and this is getting old. It's been nearly 24 years since Oklahoma has won a national championship. And if we don't fix this issue, it's going to be at least 5 or 6 more or maybe longer. Because today college football is completely different. Everything's changed about it, especially the n. I. L. Did we think he was going to get better or something seriously? I meanwhat did you think he was going to do? Come into Tennessee against Tennessee at our home and just all of a sudden.
