She had the voice of an angel
A lot of people say if they would have never forced her from behind the drums she would still be here today. I don't think anything could have stopped her. She was missing that part in her heart that comes from the warmth of a partner. She was a good sweet person I was a rocker in the 70's and 80's and her loss depressed me so much. Her music was special and her voice was so special and sweet. You can not deny that. If you do you are a fool. She was ill and no one saw it till it was to late.
I agree. People forget that she also dropped 20 pounds as a teenager. You hide from your demons sitting behind a drum kit.
When my 3 kids were in their youngest days, before they started to go to school, I used to gather them in my arms and rock them to sleep listening to Karen. I'm so thankful I had the sense to do that. I love and miss Karen so much.
Her solo album was awesome
Karen's voice is of such quality one can overlook the genius of the music & its arrangement.
Its so emotive.
Gives me goosebumps sometimes, other times feelings of deep sorrow or great joy.
Extremely rare gift to be able to touch & deeply move people with lyrics that have little substance or are straight up corny.
love the carpenterz. her voice was so beautiful. timeless classic music. rip karyn
Loneliness is such a sad affair
She was the female version of Johnny Mathis, velvet. Her family was her down fall, soo sad
No they weren't.
Richard made her a star. Her narcissistic mother destroyed her.
Nope. She was the female version of Frank Sinatra.
“Has it ever struck you that life is all memory, except for the one present moment that goes by you so quick you hardly catch it going?”― Tennessee Williams.
Day after day I must face a world of strangers Where I don't belong,
What a beautiful bride Karen was! Such a shame her marriage didn't work out
Please Release Karen Carpenter's solo album Again!!!!
Her voice….like the scent of an exquisite perfume! Lovely!
We will always love you Karen rest in peace my dear angel I will see you in heaven when the time comes you always lived in my heart you will never be forgotten your music keeps me happy everyday that I listen to it everytime I hear your voice I think you were beside me many people miss you because you bought so much joy and you will never be forgotten I know you're no longer suffering but there's a hole in the heart you're no longer here and we miss you so very much may all the angels in heaven and I have only father Jesus Christ and Yahweh be by your side that you're saying the most beautiful songs to all the celestial beans in the heavens rest in peace my love your live forever you might not be here in the flesh but you live deep down inside our hearts
Thank you. I'll take your advice on that. I've always wondered what that solo album was like, and it's only fair to hear it for myself.
I grew up on y'all and I love you Richard and Karen, Requiesquat in pace
It's called my body keeps changing my mind it's a great track from her solo record.
Too "Olivia Newton John"-ish for me.
@@Coupydog it would have been a needed change
there's a Beatles soul in the song calling occupant of interplanetery craft
Karen looked really terrific in her wedding gown, too bad her marriage didn't work out. I think this really depressed her so much, she slipped deeper into her eating disorder.
I LOVE THE CARPENTER'S!!!!!! MY FAVORITE!!!!
@reneecalling There was a point in the Coleman book where Bettis said he caught himself thinking romantically about her doing a concert, then stopped himself because "she's like your sister!"
@eclecticfire73 It has been explained now. Read "Little Girl Blue: The Life of Karen Carpenter." That marriage was over before it began. Too sad.
No RICHARD! YOU DIDN'T LIKE Karen's Solo Album. KAREN LOVED IT! YOU MADE HER FEEL THAT IT WAS A PIECE OF CRAP and had it shelved. Karen only made that decision after you hated it. Then you brought it back out and put it on sale only after she died!
Richard how could you do that to your sister you should never treat your sister like a piece of crap Karen loved her solo album you didn't why did you waited so long to release it you could've release the album when your sister alive but no you decided not to do that some brother you are
@@shanitrahan9904 Give the guy a fucking break! It wasn't just him that didn't like it, the record company didn't like it either.. But ultimately, it was up to her.. She shelved it! Get a fucking grip! You assholes are blaming him for everything! It's very clear he loved his sister, so lay the fuck off! Were you there,? No! So STFU!!! (Kimmy Hawk)
He was scared that she would leave him and the act would end. She carried him as much as he carried her. Also did you hear about the Hall and Oates feud. Shocking
..I love the way Karen rolls her eyes at 2:57...LOL!
I thought this production was kind of cute. A change is as good as a rest.
Richard was so so wrong. Karen can do Disco and if " My body kept changing my mind" was released as a single, it will surely be a hit. When I first heard that song, I fell in love with it immediately. I guess Richard must have been jealous of Karen doing solo and was afraid that she would leave him if her solo album was successful. I really pity Karen being controlled by her selfish brother. I really hate Richard.
That's what happened! Cant u tell how ok with things she was? She died 2 years later of self starvation .Couldn't get away from the mob squad..her mother and Richard.
Probably true ... anorexia is a terrible condition but.. it seems she was on the path for a long time but it was ignored.... it is a kind of addiction in reverse and of course the person suffering does not believe they have a problem. Thank you for taking the time to respond. She was a huge loss to the world...
I agree anorexia is a horrible to have starving one's self thinking the person is fat but in reality it's what they see in the reflection of ones self so sad
...and the worst part of it all was she was on the road to recovery. As much as I hate to admit this, perhaps, it was her time to go and her recordings which are timeless, is her legacy to the world!
Karen didn't want to go thru the wedding but her mother won't let her do it. That's why it's very hard to believe and understand that her eating issues could not have been stopped as early as 1975
Aaaahhhh! My husband has that Klaatu album, too!
I loved Karen Carpenters solo LP. It was great. I wonder why they shelved it????
Paula Ford I think it was a great album. But Richard was also a controller. And without her he’s nothing.
@@catherineconklin2667 no, that's totally wrong. Richard is an amazing musician. His arrangements were spectacular. They were a great team. No need to disparage him simply because she had such a beautiful voice.
Karen was the real reason for the success of the carpenters not Richard she had the voice n the looks Richard was just fumes from a exhaust pipe to be Frank if Karen didn't sing Richard wud have nothing at all end of
Calling Occupants of Interplanetary Craft -- so funny song even for nowadays :))
So wrong to shelf the solo album..variety is the spice of life...
Hmmmm,
I haven’t heard all of it ,
But it doesn’t move me like their other stuff.
I agree. Richard put on the pressure guarenteed!
Her solo album..Meh. I wouldn't give it a second listen.
It depended on what her goal was. If she wanted a fun living feel good album than it sounds like thats what it was...if she wanted the carpenters sound only solo, yes it indeed was not a success....
@CrescentNoon You probably have found out already, but there's actually a very nice MV done for the song. A true rarity for them:
"Carpenters I Need To Be In Love Video" (on UA-cam)
Calling Occupants of Interplanatary Craft always cracked me up. It's a good song
though. Karen sounded very good.
Lacy Christian that song was originally done by a progressive rock band from Canada called klaatu and the whole album is very good, if you like progressive music especially, I do and I prefer their version of calling occupants even though i love Karen Carpenter as well.
@elsoda Her solo album was eventually realsed!! i never bought it! i wonder if i can still get it!
FelicityA30 try iTunes, I’m pretty certain it’s available
At 2:57 you see Karen raised her eyes boy I really feel sorry for her. karen is the very best of all time.
There is no singer and there will never be any singer, SO angel-like like Karen. Her voice is from Heaven, her looks are amazing. Since first I listned to her and saw her on archivce on television, about 21 years ago, I have always believed that She was an Angel, sent from up above...and I still do, forever. Karen, if You read this, may Peace and Love be with you for Eternity
Karen must ha e been at the same level of Donna Summer, in the disco mood. We'll never know 😢
Always thought Helen Reddy sang this 'Interplanetary' song
@oakdude1
Karen would had blew Taylor Swift off the stage too. And why you brought up Karen & Kanye in the one sentence I have no idea. That's two different talents here.
Please can anyone post her Solo album? Thank you very much!!!
Karen Carpenter is far and away my favorite female singer of all time. having said that, i wish she had never sung that interplanetary craft song. i can't stand the fact that she sang it. whenever i hear it on my cd's, i skip over it right away, and i if it is playing on the radio, i change the channel
No mention of the drugs... the queludes that their parents too and gave to them from the start.... it messed them up from early on and may have contributed to Karen's problems...
Amen 🙏 to that.
The best!
By breaking this documentary into 5 min. chunks are you schilling ( or pimping) for You Tube Marketing to provide breaks for ads? If there must be ads, this might better than having some scrptkiddy punk down ads at random within classical works. The issue is You Tube's/ Google abuse of content for profit.
Of course they did...but the problem was they couldn't do anything to help her,
Didn’t realise they did so many covers of other peoples work ??
It's called My Body Keeps Changing My Mind.
I bought Karen's solo album some years after she passed away. Despite the ethereal vocals, it was disappointing. It just didn't sound as good as her collaborations with Richard.
Too bad there wasn't a Meghan Trainor in her day. If only she knew how beautiful she really was... inside and out.
Johnny Rotten, help us out of it!
.
Ramone ?
Her voice didn't suit disco. Her voice has heart-break in it. Disco is not heart-break. Nah.
I liked what she did the disco was Great was it different yes!! IMO the Solo Lp should have been released in 80 But the Heads at A&M said No it was bad!! Like richard said she should have put Her foot down!! was the Lp different Yes did she do disco yes, i see nothing wrong with going out of your comfort zone and wanting to try something or in this case sing something different!!
Calling occupants of interplanetary craft wouldn’t of suited her voice either then eh? Come on KC could of sung a phone book and it would still sound great.
The stuff she did with Richard was superior but her solo album wasn't bad and captured the flavor of the time. They should have released it anyways to see how it would do. Different doesn't mean it was a flop. Richard was just so used to their sound that anything outside of that genre was likely to be shocking to be sure but again doesnt make the material bad. Anything Richard couldn't control and that he didn't have a hand in posed a problem. She put her own dime into that album like a 100 grand Id be pissed if it was shelved.
I told Randy Schmidt lets go on National TV & I will tell you everything you left out of Little Girl Blue- People are really beginning to understand that this gentlemen is making money off of Karen's misfortune. Randy puts on his little suits, goes out signs books, hasen't donated anything towards eating disorders, he has even talked Karen's friends into talking to him, it's on video- However did anyone notice the peolpe who count the most remained LOYAL! Point made!
@vmuto1 What did Randy Schmidt leave out of Little Girl Blue? Please, can you elaborate on the main topics?
Very interesting! I think you're right. I am wondering if something had developed between those two , Karen might be alive today and the world would be embracing that wonderful voice which would ultimately overshadow idiots like Kanye West et al!
"Karen Carpenter came up to me, said she hadn't had a bite in days . . so I bit her!"
And
*karen
Look how thin she is in the white suit and red shirt.. could they not see it?
Why talk about us when you don't know us.
