Entirely true. I would love to play the game more, but the perceived skill cap has gotten so high that it doesn't feel worth it to me. I didn't know missing was so prevalent. All I've ever cared about on PP was SF.
Thanks for your comment mate! From speaking to other players and my experience, the skill gap is tighter than ever amongst the top bracket of players but that top bracket is much further away than before compared to your average master-GM. Thankfully there are more resources than ever in terms of being able to find out how to match those players in skill from the ever-growing SF streams and guides out there. Though as I said, even the godliest of gods on the table could never hope to consistently outmatch a cheater. It's super unfortunate. That being said, if you ever feel like jumping back on, I'd love to have a couple friendly matches with you! We can only hope that modding is no longer a problem if/when that day comes.
Karelian (Doomhorse) here. As somebody who has played Puzzle Pirates but more specifically Swordfighting for over 10 years, modding has always been an issue but after returning to the game in 2020 it's truly sad to see the amount of people who now mod on this competitive puzzle. Not only has this ruined my personal enjoyment of the puzzle and my want to even wager a substantial amount anymore. It's also ruined my enjoyment of even interacting with the SF community, not wanting to support any potential modders. As somebody who enjoyed hosting decently large tournaments for the community, I feel as if doing this now is only supporting modders further, of course there are ways around this if the host is willing to take all kinds of detours to avoid a modder winning. But this is once again a disheartening thing to have to do just to simply support one of the biggest communities still left on Puzzle Pirates. If modding can not be fixed entirely, there should AT LEAST be stricter punishments for those who are found guilty.
Thanks for your comment mate, I completely agree. Great point on the fact we have to take all these detours to try and enjoy the game, super disheartening and really takes a lot of the fun and enjoyment out of things.
The Oceanmasters also been informed multiple times that this is an issue and what kind of software (Time Travel/ Clock Control) people use, and why it is undetected. Quazars tried to raise awareness over 1,5 years ago(!!), and nothing happened. The issue doesn't only affect swordfighting, but other activities such as CI/SMH that have foraging or treasure hauling :) Thanks for your efforts. Pepehands
How I adored this game when it was 2006, it was always a bit of a luxury secret escape. Lol. Not many people I knew played it, but I had a complete world of puzzling people waiting for me when I hopped on. I completely fell in love with sails & guns, and later blockades. Never got to the technical bot and mod stuff, and I think this, together with the dramatic dev team decisions (merging oceans with a lot of unhappy people, cheating of all sorts, unkept promises, random banning, ...) eventually killed the game. Such potential. Such joy. Hopefully one day, it's back to Silver sails & Pillage plenty ^.^
Totally agree mate! It’s such a unique game with so much potential and something I’m not sure we’ll ever see the likes of again. Can only hope they realise this before it’s too late.
It's also the keeping of people banned for reasons that were never discussed with the individual, or ever allowing them to plead their cases, that also killed the community or bannings based on 'hearsay and he said she said', that killed it. The only people left are those who are quick to pull out a Visa to win. I miss Sub oceans where it was a pretty even playing field, now I feel like it's just paying to play.
I remember whenever I would send emails to YPP asking about getting unbanned, how much I was wishing it would work and how happy I would be if I finally got to play on my main again. That feeling is not there anymore. After hopping on alts and seeing the state the game is in is sad. It's not only modding, it's all the other neglect and the fact that there is absolutely nothing being done to work on the game. This is such an amazing project, imagine if competent devs were working on it, it would be AMAZING. Sadly we don't live in that world, modding is something that should have never been possible. People are literally modding on stream and being so blatant about it and then they get unbanned a week or a month after. It's truly sick how little integrity there is to swordfighting nowadays. You can never wager someone because there's always the risk they'll turn on mods at any second and gain a huge advantage. I still hop on once a month to play a few games on a fresh alt and enjoy the puzzle. Honestly all the puzzles are fun in their own way (except distilling xP) and this game could be so much bigger and better. If only Hera pulled the stick out of her ass and realized how much potential this has. The amount of money she'd have to invest compared to the returns she would gain.. how could any sane person be so detached from reality. So many people have reached out and have gotten turned down lol.. Without going off-topic more, yes they should stop modding but even if they do. You shouldn't celebrate. You should demand more, you should be asking why this took OVER A YEAR of people blatantly modding until it got fixed. Don't get used to this, even if modding gets fixed you should be mad. I don't understand why people aren't voting with their wallets. We are stuck with shitty devs, it would be SO EASY for the playerbase to demand change. For one month everyone stop buying dubs and everyone protest on the forums. Nobody log on. Why won't people do this even though this would work? Because people are retarded that's why, they would rather play this shitty excuse of a game rather than try to get real change to it. Sacrifice one month of playing time to get a much better game in the future? People can't think one month ahead I guess... we could take matters into our own hands but people won't do that. Too much effort. That's why I commend you for making this video and wish you the best of luck. But if you succeed, don't stop there.. good luck!
Thanks so much for your comment Quaz, very well said. Feels like a bit of lost cause fighting for some of these issues still, genuinely unreal how the obvious big return on investment for limited effort which would benefit everyone involved actually is.
Yargsire here. I’ve lost so many clothes, vessels, deeds, Poe, and familiars in sf’s over the years. I was never even good at the puzzle, but it was fun and I liked the adrenaline. These people always beat me in the end and I’m sure many were botting. That was many, many years ago. I came back recently to find my account and IP address we’re banned!!?! Ugh, I even petitioned but there were more hoops to jump through. I was just hoping to carpent again for a bit to let off some stress :(
Hey mate, they have recently started unbanning a vast majority of players that have appealed, if you jump through their hoops they should let you back, especially if you’re surprised to find yourself banned. Fingers crossed!
i am so happy i was able to just get into the game lol. got it through the steam site if anyone else has troubles with Java.... but damn am i stoked. sucks ass to start with nothing, green name and a foil but here we go LOL. would love to run some SFs with anyone! hit me up
i never bothered learning how to play the rigging and patching puzzles or felt any desire to play them at all because of the disgusting state they were in thanks to botters. likewise i wouldn't bother learning how to sf in it's current state if i wasn't already hooked and i'm sure there are many players who share this sentiment. in a multiplayer online game the whole point is playing with other people, loosing to a legitimate player that's better than you is fun, it just means you still have room to improve. losing to cheaters/ai or even playing with them at all is just disgusting and boring. without competitive puzzling this is just a playmobil dress-up game and once the oceans are empty your precious familliars and fake stats will be worthless pixels on a dead game and your friends will drift away. it blows my mind how blind people are to the detrimental effects cheating has on games. sad to see how some of the best puzzles in ypp are being spoiled by something as silly as speeding up your client. the end of modding will definitely be a cause for celebration, thank you for asserting this issue and with the new dev i have a bit of hope that maybe this could finally be addressed.
Yeah mate, it’s like a cockroach! Still a healthy number of players on the Emerald ocean only, sadly all the other ones are dead. Give me a tell in game if you decide to hop on!
I've had a few mates who make money off cheating. Blame YPP for making modders who help the economy like bilge botters forever banished from eternity and not doing exactly what you mentioned. They are probobly the ones making money on the side from modding and thus don't want to help the problem. Sfers are a pretty small percentage of the economy . Full of old timers with plenty of money that will spend their social security to keep the economy going just barely enough.
Do you still play mate? I found your vid after getting beat in a sf tournament by some guy who sent a literal instant 10 seconds in and had filled half his board while I didn't even finish my 3x3 yet xd. Feel like the game is better than a year ago tho, hope to see you around :d
Hey! It's still running, however the only "alive" ocean is the Emerald ocean. There are many unfixed issues and controversial policies in the game which I believe remain from years ago. There remains a stable dedicated playerbase of about 300-700 active players, and blockades, SMHs and other things still run quite regularly. I wasn't around for the real glory days, however I am told that its a far cry from what it is today. There does remain some hope for some proper fixes to these issues, and some sort of potential overhaul/resurgence and the creation of a mobile app or something similar, especially with the hiring of a new developer very recently, however we're not really holding our breath.
@@prolificypp So there's hope? I heard about this "Herena" or whatever her name is and it wasn't anything nice. Just come across this video. Honestly, I think it could be worse than ever. I've been playing 15 years and honestly, SF seems harder than ever. I've never been a top tier ultimate player, but I used to sit around master/renowned. Now I'm getting comfortably beat by proficient/distinguished players.
