Back in 1977 I took a year to just work and save money before college. This is exactly what I used to do. Hardest and most satisfying work I've ever done. Only problem was the owner was a total tyrant. He was verbally abusive, always angry and stressed. I saw him grab some guys by the neck a few times. He only seemed to do that to the Mexican workers, the illegals. These were the very guys I strived to keep up with pushing cement filled wheelbarrows through forms and grading. They taught me the art of the shovel and pick. And yes, it's a science and an art. They were the hardest working guys I've ever met. This was back then wheelbarrows only had one wheel, today they have two which helps a lot from tipping. I was doing some light grading in my back yard yesterday prepping to build a fence and I was using those same skills taught to me back then. You are the kind guy that would make it a pleasure to come to work for everyday. If I were working for you back then I might have never wanted to leave for college.
The Mexican is the hardest working individual I’ve ever witnessed, freezing cold early am or blazing hot 100 plus degrees helping eachother joking around smiling happy no complaining.
Love watching your videos. You explain what you and your team are doing so well. Not that I understand a whole lot. And the finished product always looks great.
I absolutely love watching your videos. Learned so much throughout the years. It's my wind down time after getting home from work. Really wish I could work for you. Without pay of course. The knowledge and experience is worth more. Unfortunately I'm on the East Coast in Boston. Someday hopefully. Keep up the great work and videos. 👍
Good job again 👏 👍 ,I feel like a concrete pro watching 👀 this videos 📹 thanks to O'Dell I have been learning a lot, thanks alot for teaching us this good
Having this done locally (Oklahoma). Have a couple questions: - In this video, you did 3x3. I'm doing a 4x4 step, what kind of base would you recommend? I saw you use both gravel and sand here. - For a 4x4 step, would you use any reinforcement? - I've heard of people running rod from one step to the other if you want to keep them aligned when they move. Would you recommend this?
@@OdellCompleteConcrete If you're installing a large pergola and it calls for six inches of concrete for the bolts do you just dig holes where the posts will be to get that concrete depth?
Great video, just getting into concrete and your videos are a great way for me to learn. Not for business but I want to do my backyard 10*12 pad. Just wondering what the final pass on the knee boards do? Will the Fresno and the wooden boat float be enough??
Do you prefer fiberglass over traditional rebar? any easier to work with? Do they say the strength is the same? Cool technology, just wondering if it is as strong as steal.
Depends on the type of fiberglass. Every fiberglass rods can be designed differently. Also the spacing can change everything. I prefer working with the fiberglass. Lighter easier to transport. Once you use fiberglass you'll never want steel again.
Hey David another great video I know you put out a video of how to make concrete from scratch and I’m having trouble finding out is there anyway you could link that
Beautiful! Question. I've seen another video of yours where you used 2" deep wooden forms for smaller pavers you made with blue glass. When do you recommend going from 1"x2" lumber forms to 2"x4" lumber forms? At what size paver should you go from 2" thick to 4" thick?
Nice work! Please do a video talking about coloring concrete. Both pre mixing color into the entire mix and compare with color thats just applied to the top surface. Costs, pros and cons. Whats the best way for a DIYer to color a small concrete patio? Thanks in Advance
David why is the trowel called Fresno? Was it invented in Fresno California? Fresno in Spanish means Ash tree in English. Another interesting post, thanks for sharing!
2 questions, 1 is there a specific reason to spray forms with oil day of or does it not matter? #2 What was the deal with the auger drill bits in the bottom of the stepping stone form, customer haveing a bit (lol) of fun? :)
hi guys. I poured a concrete slab and I used a mix of cement, I worked alone and the concrete dried quickly, I did not have time to grind it and now when the concrete is dry it needs to be polished because it is dusty, can you tell me what to do in this case, polishing is required? And how to polish in this case?

My guess is yes in Frenso
Do you need to put dolbys underneath the fiberglass rods, orcan you leave them at the base level because they don’t rust ?
Nvm I see your raising it as you pour. Lol I commented as I was watching
Nice
Love it !
That backyard has a lot of bark but not a lot bite. (I waited for you to drop that joke the whole video but no dice.) 😄

Drilling out wood post from a concrete slab.
The oil seem to work best on same day. If you spray in advance the nails could back out.
You service Kern county?? 😆👍🏽

It looks really nice as always. I think they should have done the entire yard and just left maybe a border area for plants.
Is that mix similar to a concrete mix you can buy at Home Depot or is it really just cement … what’s the difference ?
Yes Home Depot has a similar concrete mix
How long it need to dry?
3 days
