Avoid the Sprinter. The ProMaster is really a re-badged FIAT Ducato, which should scare anyone. The basic design is over 30 years old and wasn't very good in the first place. The only choice is the Transit. Any shop can work on it, and it's now offered in a 4WD version. Gas is the way to go because nobody has figured out how to create a trouble-free DEF system. Before you jump on me, I worked many years for a company with one of the world's largest Sprinter fleets and I've been driving Class 8 diesel trucks for over 35 years. ALL brands of diesels with DEF are a problem.

I had fiat ducato 1998y. I bought it in 2015. Never had any problems. Russian winters are not your fucking falls. FWD with studded wheels. You can't drive in those conditions. You all are a gasket between the steering wheel and seat. Shut a fuck up.

It's frustrating because they all have their major drawbacks. Sprinters are too narrow and too expensive. Transits are too narrow, and they're Fords. Promasters only have FWD and are too short in height. Why can't one of these companies come out with something that checks all the boxes?

I know these are the three most popular vans right now, but are there others you would suggest looking at for a campervan? Specifically, we been looking at the low profile 4 wheel drive Ford Transit because this would be an everyday use vehicle as well as for several month long trips. As you said, it is the only one that you can park in a garage with a poptop. Thx, Ken

Nicely done! One of the most through comparisons I've seen on UA-cam.

The chevy cargo van was very reliable. Patiently waiting for GM to come out with a high roof van

I take my PM off road quite often. Have high centered once😂🎉 but wheel placement is everything! It can go off road in many places. Avoiding sand of course!

I am interested in a low roof AWD Transit van with a
Colorado Campervan poptop. Trying to decide about
which wheel base to choose, the short one is attractive
for getting around town. parking and such. Clearly that
limits what can be put in the allotted space. Have you
ever converted a short wheel base van ? If so a video
comparison of a short wheel base compared with the
longer wheel base Transit vans would be helpful and
    interesting.

Thank you! I’ve been researching these. I see A LOT of Sprinters on the used rv market. Wondering if it’s because they are costly to maintain?

Probably because diesel is more money and fixing it is beyond the expertise of most Mexicanix

The conclusion I’ve come to is this
promaster: drive train could take a shit at any moment but my favorite looking.
Transit: leaks way to much from the roof and into the electrics under the windshield for a brand new 40k+ vehicle but has a better drive train
Mercedes: will cost more to fix and cost more to buy so out of my realm of possibility. But should be pretty reliable and diesel is cool to me
