  • Ice Age Day 21: Stealth Camp (630.3)
    To Stealth Camp (667.6)
    37.3 Miles
    By Far One of my sketchiest nights EVER on trail last night. Had a Jeep with top rack lights come up to me shine the lights at me, rev the engine, and then turn everything off and sit next to me for 2 hours!!!! Opening and closing the doors walking towards me and then back.... by far one of my scarier trail experiences. I don’t know what they could have been doing???
    Ice Age Day 22: Stealth Camp ( Mile 667.6)
    To Stealth Camp (Mile 705.8)
    38.2 Miles
    By Far one of my favorite days on trail, about half and half road walking/ trail. But the trail sections were epic, ferry crossing was cool, and the road wasn’t to boring had some interesting parts!

    Parfreys Glen is really cool. If you had followed it further in, it takes you into this really rocky canyon and there is some boulder scrambling that takes you to a small waterfall. I drove up from North Carolina and hit Devils Lake, Parfrey Glen and Pewlitts Nest near there. Also did a lot around the Wisconsin Dells area.

    I am glad you did not attempt to cross the rail road tracks. Just thinking about you doing that made me anxious.

      Aw thank you so much, your words made me smile so much!
      To be able to enjoy these trails and enjoy the communities, nature, people, and everything that encompasses what it means to thru-hike there is no greater gift in the world, so even with the body aches, tough mental days, there are always always reasons to be happy, and I truly could not be happier than when experiencing what it means to live and interact with all around you, even the absurd amount of cow footage in my videos brought a smile to my face each day haha! There just is so much joy to be found in this world, just even after walking road for 30+ miles seeing the slowness of the movement of everything around you could not ever be happier.
      I am also so happy to hear these videos are helping during this time, we are all in this together, and all being there for each other in whatever shape that takes.
      You guys are awesome!
      Cool, Cool!!!!!

    Man hope you don’t get hassled on the trail again.
    So happy you are back on real trail again. Should of called that small section before the beautiful devils lake memorial lane!
    Keep rocking the trail😊

    If it was a weekend night you were probably camping at someone's party spot. That's what kids in rural Wisconsin do on weekends. If you want hills & views the western part of the state along the Mississippi is great. There are only a few shorter hiking trails in the State Parks in that area though

      Yea, could of been nothing, could of been something I’m not worried about it anymore.... all types of experiences on trail gotta just roll with them.

    Bummer you got hassled on the trail. Wisconsin is very friendly but not that trail conscious yet. I was the guy you blew by on day 10 and I have been telling a lot of people about your videos. Has to be a record time for an unsupported thru hike on this trail.

      I know all the locals I’ve met so far have been so kind and friendly!!!! I don’t ever associate one bad experience with the general goodness of an area, it was an isolated incident.
      Oh yea man, I hope your hikes are going good and your still plugging away those miles!
      Also idk, I’m not big into FKTs so really have no idea lol

      Honestly it was so long ago I do not remember...... I have a feeling it was somewhere in Colorado...... maybe Breckenridge...... but there are so many choices of balaclavas out there that I would be hard pressed to find it again. Maybe try googling multi colored balaclava?????

      @@HikingAmerica sort of figured that would be the case. I'm trying to get the 1000 mile club by section hiking. Stupid work gets in the way to do longer days/trips on the trail.

    What % road walking in the IA you think ?

    • @HikingAmerica
      @HikingAmerica  5 років тому

      Hmmmm I would say 40% maybe..... maybe a little more if you consider “road” to be pavement like bike paths and two track as well. It does seem like there is a good amount of road but it’s just all part of the hike, and there is still pretty cool scenery tossed into the roads at times. Also cows!

  • @tropics8407
    @tropics8407 5 років тому

    How many miles per day you getting in ?
    How are the feet at night ?
    How you do handle sore feet ?

    • @HikingAmerica
      @HikingAmerica  5 років тому

      On trail miles per day: 35-40
      But then take into account zeros/Nero’s the average drops to 31/32
      Feet are ok.... generally tired/sore by the end of day but the more you hike the more I feel you can sometimes tune out this feeling. Although sometimes it’s pretty annoying but what can you do besides keep on rolling??
