  • The narrative engine of Hill Street Blues, lessons in brevity from writing for advertising, and structural differences between Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU arise in this conversation between executive producer/writer Dick Wolf and Carsey-Wolf Center director Patrice Petro. In this video, Wolf describes his first experiences in a TV writing room and the foundations of the record-breaking run of Law & Order: SVU. Recorded on 02/06/2020. [Show ID: 35772]

The skinny guy's name is Martin Ferrero. He's an excellent actor, starring in some of the Maimi Vice episodes, then doing Planes, Trains & Automobiles, Jurassic Park, Heat. Small parts, but memorable. Come on Mr. Wolf, have some respect!

I don’t watch tv regularly but I will watch Chicago PD. It is my favorite tv show by Dick Wolf & the other is Blue Bloods which Wolf isn’t involved with.
TV will lose an icon when this guy moves on.

Did Wolf create the show that Geddish was on before SVU? She was a cop in Georgia, I think it was. She carried the show on her shoulders too. I liked it & was disappointed when it ended. And glad to see her on SVU.

Donno. But I have not connected with it yet. I was slow to watch all the others too, except Fire which I watched from day 1.

I understand the point he's making about brevity & the 100 minute movie. I happen to vehemently disagree. Then again, I'm not a writer or producer who's made billion plus dollars with signature pieces.

He's wrong about timing and length of stories, but he's selling his genre.

Im kind of embarrassed at how much Wolfe TV I watch. I dont care for the CSIs much (except the 1 with Gary Sinese - only when hes on). Or really any other police procedural. I dont care for Chicago Med, but I like all the others.
