  • I talk about 10 reasons (plus a bonus one!) why many language learners fail to learn another language and achieve a high level of proficiency. I talk about how to solve these issues so you can ensure you're not "doomed" to giving up and failing to achieve your language goals.

*Selinker (1984) predicted that 95% of second language learners would never be able to attain a native-like command of a target language. Their paper focuses mostly on 'fossilisation'. A quick Google search will lead you to their papers and more research if you're curious to know more.

I teach using just one of many accents in the world. Please only learn it if you like it and if you are interested in learning it. I do not believe there is one “correct” accent or manner of pronunciation and I fully encourage EFL/ESL learners to expose themselves to as many varieties of English around the world to become accustomed to the beautiful variations of this world language. I focus mostly on teaching “Modern RP” (I may just say “RP” in my older videos, but to clarify, I do specifically mean “Modern RP”), however, you will hear a lovely little Yorkshire twang to my accent from time to time too. Please LOVE and BE PROUD of your accent. After all, it is part of your identity and makes you unique. 💚

For an Asperger that I am: learning languages is like a therapy because it has transformed my life. But, I'm rather a self-taught as I left school when I was nine years old. In short, learning has saved me from going crazy.

You have motivated me because I love learning different things but they may not be useful in others' eyes. I learn just because I like it, but people always think that you should learn something that can help you to make money.

    Fascinating topic Emma,
For me my observation has always been that quitting is always an option for English native speakers.
We have a comfort zone in the world that is hard to leave and it becomes difficult to put yourself in positions where you are the only English native speaker in the room.

Yessss, so true!! And it's also so easy for us to "give in" when people switch to English around us. Living here in Spain now, I encounter a few waiters and people who speak to me in England and I FLAT OUT REFUSE to back down and speak English back to them 🤣 Then it just ends up being a weird conversation where they refuse to speak Spanish and I refuse to speak English.

Yeah, you are right. Because of not being mother tongue sometimes we can't express everything in another languages. But in the case of English it's completely different because this language can be mastered because of being an international language all can speak English more or less . But your consultation was also very much effective. But in view, to learn any kind of languages own avidity is much needed.
Overall this video was so helpful as well as educational .Sometimes this kind of motivational video makes the lessons delicious....🙂🙂🙂💖💖💖

I'm doing an experiment right now. I learn about 5 hours of English every day and I'm excited to see what I'll achieve in a year. I can speak German very well and some Spanish. There is a lot of vocabulary that occurs in both languages. The hardest thing about English is pronunciation. When I read something, I understand very well, but I can't pronounce it. That means I have to check almost every new word in the lexicon. That's not fun.

I don't recommend people who want to learn SPANISH to go toward ANDALUSIA is not a good idea they speak like American .
I learned Spanish hearing my parents. now my goal it's to improve my English skill. when I was teenager I listened to ENGLISH GROUP such DEEP PURPLE and RAINBOW . And my dream it's to practice more output but it isn't easy in France I don't find English people .
I like to speak Spanish too . At home with my son and his wife we speak Spanish each others .Emma you're beautiful accent . I don't know where are you coming from ?. to help me to continue I take no so more serious my learning English language. because it's true I'm French and to speak like you isn t possible. Even when I go to Spain people see I'm not native speakers but the main purpose it's to comunicate that all. if you learn something and you think to the top .I think you surrender and is not wise .thank you to share with you my opinion.
