I laughed, cried, cheered… yes, pure Over the Top fun!
This is totally in my top 5 for the year along with EEAaO. It definitely made me want to pay more attention to Indian cinema going forward. Another good Indian film I saw this year was Brahmastra. It's the first in a planned shared universe. It's Bollywood, not Tollywood like this one, and it's also almost 3 hours and never gets boring. Plus, it's a fantasy film which is fun because you get to see Bollywoodisms mixed together with fantasy tropes.
Watch Kantara - The Legend. Imagine a movie getting 9.8 rating with over 50K votes. Thank me later, Paul. Also you may have to watch 2-3 times to feel the impact.
RRR stands for Rise Roar Revolt... but it actually doesn't. The name RRR comes from the names of director S. S. Rajamouli and actors N. T. Rama Rao Jr. and Ram Charan.
This didn't start as a movie or a story, this started as a collaboration between three of India's most hype filmmakers, and they built a movie around it.
Btw, in India actors are beloved like celebrities, where it's more about the actor than the role they play. I guess similar to Tom Cruise, where you go to see Tom Cruise more than what a fictional character he plays does.
This movie is hype and fun incarnate.

I like to think the title is just pronounced "errrrrrrrrr"
That was the most movie to ever movie! And the most epic bromance of all time. Thank you for bringing this masterpiece to my attention!
Trivia: Daisy Edgar Jones was originally cast as Jenny way back in 2019 when it was like her first mainstream film. She shot for the film for a couple of days and left midway citing some personal reasons nd later she was replaced with the new actress Olivia Morris.
Edit: her film 'where the crawdads sing' is actually in the race for oscars. So she didnt lose out on anything i guess

@@crazyfriendist Crawdads sing movie is nowhere near as popular as RRR. RRR is being watched by elderly in Japan and other east asian countries because of it's universal way of story-telling. Oscar doesn't matter as much as popularity. Olivia Morris despite having a minor role is recognised world-wide now. I'm sure Crawdads movie is great on it's own. Not debating that. But all things considered, Daisy Edgar Jones is at a net-loss here.

I am so glad I paused this before the hard spoilers. I've had this movie on my radar for a while, but your enthusiasm pushed me over the edge and I just blew the last three hours on this magnificent achievement of cinema. On first viewing it has made its way into my top ... Gonna say 5 ... Top five films. I did not expect to be so heavily invested in this film. I figured it would be good fun (which it is), but damned if it didn't hit all the buttons hard.
"He makes a good bastard!" is among the highest praises an actor can receive imho

This movie was such a breath of fresh air. I've recommended it to a few friends, and I truly hope that its following continues to grow.
P.S. Naacho naacho will be my earworm for the rest of this year.

Another film I'm glad you enjoyed, alongside Everything Everywhere All At Once. When people moan about "no new films" they can't say it about this year- we also got the wonderfully off-kilter The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent. But this film is something special. And yeah, I am a British person but after this and Ms Marvel it does hit you some of the crap that came out of the partition era. And also that dance off scene is one of the finest moments in cinema.
This movie was so good. It was well choreographed and shot, and while it's not subtle, the symbolism is consistent and serves the story and is far beyond what we're getting in the movies. There's so much symmetry. It's like Kill Bill crossed with 300 but didn't carry over any of the problematic. And turned it into a musical, and you actually care a lot about the characters. Such a gem
Good luck in getting your friends to watch it! I keep recommending it to my friends who love Star Wars, the MCU, James Bond, Tolkien, etc, and they WON’T EVEN GIVE IT A CHANCE, even with all the excellent reviews out there. They simply can’t get past their preconceptions of what an Indian film is, and they think that I’m nuts for urging them to watch it. So frustrating!!
Already got my partner to watch it and she had a blast.
Wish I had caught this in the theater. Super fun, and love the music in this one. 🤘🏻

Been meaning to watch this review for a while. The reason I watched the movie is I had heard the movie was nominated for an oscar and I saw your video's title said it was incredible, so I didn't watch your review at the time (because "spoilers"), but I added RRR to my watch list. Once I finally sat down and saw it I adored it and have been trying to get all my friends and family to watch it ever since. So, thank you!
his next movie will be even bigger.Its going to be a globetrotting action adventure like never seen before.And chris hemsworth is likely to play a cameo role and lots of hollywood actors will be casted.

Enjoyed your review! Indian cinema has everything from this kind of stuff to serious, arthouse type cinema, every genre - drama, comedy, thriller, crime, gangster, coming of age, fun action, etc. Any generalization is almost certainly wrong.

Patrick Willems made a video about how that got me to watch it. Such a good choice.
I believe it was originally recorded in Telugu so actually it might be better to switch the language it's in to Telugu, just for the sake of the words matching with the lip movements.
I still haven't watched this one, but I really want to! I've heard the songs and they all sound awesome, and everything I've heard about the movie looks like a lot of fun. I could rope my parents into watching it with me. My mom especially loves Telugu movies.
Yes it was shot in Telugu but the dubbed version was by the actors themselves , taken care of the dub making it as authentic as the original one be it songs lyrics dialogues a lot of care put by the translation team to get exact dialogues . The Telugu version also had bits of Hindi in jt . So it's as authentic ! Am a Hindi speaker so I can tell that one of the bes dubbed .
All indian languages dubbed the main actors have dubbed it and it's as good and authentic. One of the best dubbed version as good as Hindi made movie!
The actor who played rams. Father said his dialogues in Hindi when they shot so it's nothing both versions are as solid and good depends on preference of watching
Sadly Netflix doesn’t have the rights to the original Telugu language. But it does have the Hindi dub - but be careful as sometimes it defaults to Brazilian Portuguese for some reason!
Oh yes Netflix default plays Portuguese outside India so you have to select the Hindi version . Hindi dub is authentic! And one of the best dub . As I said before . Dub my the main actors itself and accurate
There is "Sardar Udham Singh" "Pink" "Bajirao Mastani and "Padmavat etc." and many more such gems left for review 🙏🏻
Easily the most fun movie i've seen in years. I saw it last friday night and couldn't fall asleep after I was done. For you, If you want a suggestion, try watching "Udaan" (2010) next. It's completely different from RRR but also pretty great.

And the songs that have already been good in Hindi (the Netflix version) sound much better in Telugu.
Guys all dubbed versions are good and all indian dubb languages are by main actors themselves as the care for translation dialgoues have been taken care and dubbed by the actors to make it authentic also in other versions there is hindi used little bit. Hindi version is one of the best dub being a Hindi audience you can see.
Netflix has Hindi
Zee 5 has Telugu
You can watch either both are good

Let's just say u'll admire the film a lot
You could say the movie only demonizes the characters in the movie, rather than an entire race etc. But if you think it was over the top, and a thing of distant past, you only need to watch John Oliver's Last Week Tonight Episode "Museums" and watch that British women talking about her right to keep African / world heritage in the most chilling, "moustache twirling" and plain ol racist ways.
I really appreciated how they managed to play antagonists in a subtle, grounded, and understated way. 🤣😱

So apparently the original language was Telugu but that version isn’t available in America. The two lead actors did dub themselves in Hindi tho.

They used 20,000 extras for the second sequence in “RRR”,and it took a MONTH to shoot. Unheard of in Western cinema.
And ask any Indian whose grandparents experienced British rule, or watch the excellent 1980s epic “Gandhi”; the British were even WORSE than that! (And I say that as someone who is part English).

The inability to find an original language that matched anyone's mouth movements was kind of a deal breaker. Especially when english characters felt like they were from another movie. It felt like watching 3 different dubs randomly spliced together
It's just men being men. I'm glad thay the makers didn't turn them into gay for representation or any that kind of bullshit, stood true to the story. Still some wokes complained that the female characters had very less role. I just wanna to the wokes that don't let woke culture destroy Indian cinema too.
Boy are ever several hundred miles from where anyone wants to listen to your boilerplate-isms.
