I bought these exact batteries last month. The ones I received were more closely matched than what you received. I suppose its luck of the draw. They work well enough for me and the price was right. My application is for my RV which I only use a few times a year. Lead acid batteries wouldn't power the microwave through the inverter for more than a few seconds. High current with low voltage drop was more important than meeting target capacity (haven't tested yet). Still, I appreciate your review.

You are getting your packages from an intermediary shipping company, this is normal and will happen every time you choose "Aliexpress Standard Shipping", here in Poland the company name is Sinotrans, probably from the same Sinotrans Changhang Group as your US shipping agent. It is loads faster in my experience than any other free shipping method from Aliexpress. It is basically a dedicated logistics company for Ali.

I just ordered four of these cells. Lowest price in the world and free shipping makes them half the prize of any competition, so I took the chance.
I expect them not to be matched and plan to bottom balance them. This way at least the weakest cell won't be destroyed. I will have to live with the weakest cell determine the total capacity, but to the price, I can absolutely live with that. Exited to test them when they arrive.

Buying from China Aliexpress or other platforms is very tricky, the sellers very often send different products, damaged or not working or working only for a few times or even never send anything at all. The sellers hope that customers will forget after 2 months and after that you cant apply for refund or any warranty. Be careful and dont buy from shops that have random name for example shop123456789 etc its gonna be very likely fake shop. The issue is that anyone can open shop at Aliexpress and if they get bad reviews they just open new shop. I have bought dozens of different batteries and other products from different sellers and every time something is not as they declare in product description. Recently Ive bought NCR18650 classic green Panasonic 3400mah almost 200pcs and all of them are total fake with only 1000mah capacity and weight is only 35g instead 46g.

@@xavierpendrag0n Im opening several disputes. Im testing every single battery in kapacity tester and measuring the weight of all of them. All the evidence is on the video and photos (its a lot of work btw). So far first dispute Ive ask for full refund, the seller said "my friend the batteries works fine, I will refund you 3$". So I have refused the offer and argue that the batteries are only 1/3 of declare capacity so I demand 1/3 of the price to be payed for the order also I showed comparison with other batteries with 1000mah. So far Aliexpress refunded me for the first order and gave me my demanded 2/3 from the price but that was just first small order of 20 bats. Im opening disputes slowly one by one cos I dont want Aliexpress put me in some blacklist. The batteries are total shit you can feel it in your hand, the material feels like cheap alu instead of thick metal and they have very low discharge and heat up a lot, so Im afraid they can be also dangerous.

    • @robertzeman4301
      @robertzeman4301 4 роки тому +4

@@herbertwerner2287 Well Im kinda fucked cos today Aliexpress refused to refund me and they want me to send the batteries back to the seller on my responsibility but I have to pay the shipping which is ridicules because cheapest shipping is almost 100$ for each package (I have few of them). Now Aliexpress will not talk to me anymore about the dispute and the seller doesnt give a damn about me which means if I return the batteries I will lose the money I have payed of the batteries, the shipping money and the batteries it self. Also the packages 7 of them have name of seller "jack" so its pretty damn fake name... the 2 stores I have bought the batteries are named: Shop4052003 and Shop3200004, stay away from them.

Hi Will, great video once again. When assembling cells into batteries, particularly when the are cheap or used, check the internal series resistance of each cell. You'll see any variances in matching this way and you can easily spot a dud before you spend time doing discharge testing. you can also get a feel for how 'Used' used cells actually are. Merry Christmas from the UK.

Here's an idea for a test.....(maybe it is already stated by some other viewer)
Put two solar panel from the same maker next to each other. One mono one poly, how some data logger and update every month their output. Let's see if two panels from the same company, a mono and a poly , with the same surface area, in the same weather conditions, will produce same or different output. :) you can have a monthly video and viewers and you can discuss your findings , we will have some numbers and results, and we will all be happy ..win win :)

Hello Will.I want to build a battery bank with cells like these just 110Ah grade A.The problem i found in the manual of the batteries is this:"After each brake charging, the battery needs to rest for a certain time, which should be equal to or
longer than the duration of the pulse charging. During the rest, the battery can be discharged in low rate,
or in a non-working state. But in the rest period, the battery is not allowed to pulse recharge again."What i understand from this is that if the battery charges for 5 hours it then needs to rest for at least 5 hours if not longer. And if i am using my solar setup during the day and if a cloud passes and i draw from the battery it will not be ok for the battery?
Thank you for all the amazing and informative videos.Wish you all the best!

You nailed it on the head when you mentioned the price rise after a good review and drop in price from a respected professional reviewer such as yourself. One reason I won't jump into this. This happens on Amazon, Aliexpress, eBay and everywhere The price rise in just the past year (almost doubled) for even the lead acid's not to mention if you're getting new, used or just plain junk. Going green or trying to as much as possible is keeping a lot of us out. I am sure probably 95% of the world is locked out of this extremely useful project not to mention local codes, laws, regulations trying to stop you and electric company's putting up roadblocks every step of the way.
As much as I enjoy looking at and learning from these videos, the one thing that aggravates me is when you say this is cheap or that is cheap when it really isn't compared to what you actually get and then the replacement costs of nearly everything.
I think in one of your videos you said that a nominal overall solar system would run about roughly $40,000 with a shelf life of about 30 years. We all know that 30 years is pushing the whole everything to it's limit. Failure of everything with the exception of the solar panels needing replacement a few times over during that 30 year period. A good charge controller, 48 volt 240 volt a/c inverter and batteries are the weak link and replacement costs are NOT CHEAP. I am also not in the income bracket that I can fork over that kind of cash.
My present monthly electric bill runs between $70 and $100 (@ $0.11 Kwh) with the summer months, of course, being the exception but even then we manage to keep it below $130-$140 at great sacrifice. My 30 year cost for being forced to use the local electric company is below the cost of going solar but we all know that. I really wish this going green thing wasn't such a scam as it would be much cheaper in the long run. Even a small, say 1000 watt system is out of reach. Just 400 watts took me a year and not really contributing to our reduction in CO2 footprint. I do have enough wooded land that I think makes up for our contribution though. 3 times over probably. I really wish I could build a system that could generate the 14 to 20 kW we use daily on average. It's just the cost that is in the way.
Anyway, I do enjoy your videos and appreciate all the useful information and your effort. Also MERRY CHRISTMAS and HAPPY NEW YEAR to everyone.

Given the amount of time that has passed since LFP went into use in various applications, it is of course no surprise to see used cells come onto the market. While there will be a certain amount of "Sheister's" out there misrepresenting the products, we will also see more reputable dealers in Used Cells who actually performance / capacity test and match cells up.
Is there any way to come up with a list of Reputable Used Cell vendors ?
Hopefully your continued Forensic Research will also get around to checking out the Discount ShunBin battery packs as well.

My experience with AliExpress refunds is that if you provide solid evidence they will judge in your favour. If the product is still usable I ask for a discount. If it’s not usable then I ask for a full refund without having to send the item back. I’ve never been disappointed.
My disputes concerned much lower value products though.
I’m curious how this case will work out.

Yea put everything in the first time, then they asked if I had anything else. I actually contacted a rep and explained it all and said what else can I tell you? There advert was incorrect and they actually lied to my specific question. There response was that if I didn’t have any more information then they wouldn’t look into any further. I contacted them again and the next rep listened and said he understood the situation and these instances has happened before, he would escalate it and get back to me. The next day they just processed my £20 refund on a £250 purchase and that was that. I’m in the process of claiming off my credit card company. I even emailed them after and said hold on I never agreed to the partial refund for all the stated reasons and never even got a reply to that

    • @djbart78
      @djbart78 4 роки тому +2

I think my issue was more down to a lack of understanding, in that the product was advertised to work on 50/60Hz and I asked the specific question is it both 50 and 60Hz. They answered yes but when it was delivered it was quite clearly 50Hz only. While this will work at 60Hz where I live, I have had numerous products that either fail to work or burn out within a month or 2 due to the frequency difference when running a motor. So while the unit potentially will work, it could fail within a month and I would be then out of pocket. I explained all this and said I wasn’t looking to keep the unit, quite happy to return it if they paid the shipping as it was not as advertised or spoken about. If they had told me it was 50Hz only I wouldn’t have purchased it

Will, even though I have never meet you I still love yo...what you do!
You seem to be onto everything lithium! Fortunately for me, it just so happens that I'm building a sprinter van motor home...and I need a battery system for it.......A big one or as much capacity as will fit in the van.....I was thinking a 24 volt as most of my appliances are 24 volt and 500-600 watts of solar plus alternator and shore power charging @ 24volt...
I am an electronics tech from an early age but lithium tech I have yet to catch up on but am on the way thanks to all your wonderful vids, thank you....
My question is what cells would be good to produce 24v at as much capacity as practical for the space I have available....the space is not something you need to worry about....I need good reliable cells from a good reliable seller and a good BMS for them.
Thanks for your time and your videos and its good that you're ripping apart all these Chinese batteries for us to see inside!! Something we all need to see before we buy.....! Your the Battery vigilantly and this will single handily lift that standards of Chinese lithium batteries for us all!!

The first cell did not had the same state of charge based on initial voltage measurement. If you have top balanced the cells before the test they may have been quite equal.
My A123 cells had the model number removed (easier as it was just paint so cleaned with alcohol) and I think they purchased the cells to recycle or destroy (not resell) and so they remove the original identification markings so they do not get in trouble for reselling them. If this are CATL then they do have similar policy with A123 and do not sell direct just to large system integrator's like EV makers not for resale to public. They may be quality rejects for some reason and maybe a bit old stock but should be fine.
Since it takes forever to cycle them thousands of time to see how they will degrade a good indication of quality is to measure (calculate) the internal DC resistance. To do that you just put a known small load say 10A measure the voltage of the cells at the terminals then switch a large load say 110A and measure the voltage again then subtract those two voltages and say you get 50mV then you will have 0.05V / (110A-10A) = 0.5mOhm and that will be a fairly good result. Another type of cell that has the same capacity and double the internal DC resistance will heat more internally when used and most likely will last less.
And about the connectors on those cells they originally are spot welded so the re-seller tap drills them so they can accept bolts for easier DIY use.

These cells still will work just fine with active balancer in place. Of course only 80% of the original capacity but hey they are used aren't they? I know for sure because i built for years cell pack from recycle batteries with way less capacity than these LFP type and they are usable for 2 years on each pack that i built (recycle = throw away). Sure they are not LFP but they all are lithium aren't they?
I am migrating toward LFP now for their advantage. They cost more initially for sure but i know for sure i do not have to rebuild my pack for years to come.
I never do the video of my system because i know very few will do due to the time, complexity and effort to build such pack of 1s100p and have to do that 14 times for the 14s100p. But boy oh boy i sure learn and know a whole bunch when i have to do that vs buying new on everything.
Well i am migrating toward the LFP type of battery. My main motive is I like the 15 years lifespan and still 80% of capacity after that. Hell i still got 2 years of use with recycle laptop battery which guesstimate 40-60% left capacity so LFP is a no brainer choice. Really with the initial cost they are a bargain in compare with the other type of lithium cell.
Don't fall for the simplicity and easiness of ready to go solar server rack. I get more bang for. my bucks if i buy new LFP at any grade and a case kit with bms and all accessories and assemble myself. Can you beat under $2000 for 16 LFP's battery with 300AH in a case with bms and active balancer? that is what i found out during my research. That popular EG4 brand is selling about $1300 for just 100AH with no active balancing 48V system that is. Thanks but NO thanks i build my own and I can fix easily if something goes wrong later.
Don't always believe what you see on Utube. Do your own homework to determine fact from not fact!!!!!

I’d guess that most sellers of commodity goods on Alibaba are like many on Amazon and EBay - they do drop shipments. You order something from them, but they don’t have inventory - they turn around and place the order with the supplier who then sends it to you. BTW, Sino means “of or relating to relating to China”.

Thanks for your videos. I actually bought a GTK pack for my golf cart from Ali Express and have been battling with the manufacturer ever since. Battling even to the point that the company Foxelion created a fake SMS/text message to use as evidence in the dispute so Ali Express would deny my dispute. Now the BMS keeps tripping when I give the cart some throttle, making it unusable. Your videos inspired me to open it up and seek to change the BMS, but I did not find quite what I was expecting when I opened the case. Instead of 16 cells like what is in your video, there appear to be 48 individual cells each measuring approx 3/8" x 5.5" x 7". The BMS is JBD-HP28SA and the pack is supposed to be 100AH 48V Lifepo4. At this point, and being a newbie to lifepo4 I am hesitant to dig in any farther. I am hoping to get your opinion on this pack design and any advice that you can provide. I would be comfortable swapping out the BMS as there are just 2 soldered connections and 2 plugs, but is there any good way for me to test to see if that is the problem before I do so? Would it be worthwhile to buy an upgraded BMS to replace this one? and if so, will the balancing wire plugin be the same?

Don't batteries depleted to 80% deplete much faster from 80->64% (the next 20% drop in capacity) than they did originally from 100->80? The charts I see show capacity falling like a rock after a cell is already down to 80%. So these would be good for a 100 cycles or less.
