Actually in 80s they made a few reforms, one of them allowed people do religious practices. This era is known as perestroika. So I think for this video 20s or 30s would be more appropriate. One of my relatives was killed actually during this time for being a priest. In 80s everyone could freely attend churches.
@@beth_m_666 condolences for your loved one; pre-perestroika & glasnost policies were definitely rough, especially under Stalin. The 1980s opening up was definitely evidence of the crumbling down of the USSR.
there were always political prisons, gulag was just a different system. towards the end of the ussr they would diagnose you with schizophrenia and force you into a mental institution instead.
Well, in the 70-80s, ideology was already on the wane, on the decline, no one took the world revolution seriously any more, the race for scarce goods was thriving, and the youth generally mocked communist ideals for the most part, and the churches worked without problems. Of course, there was still officialdom, but in the mid-80s, cooperation and all kinds of entrepreneurship began. And for church topics, perhaps, ardent revolutionaries could have imprisoned comrades in the 20-s. But in the end, Stalin officially stopped persecuting the church during WW2. And so, usually, things did not go further than propaganda posters ridiculing priests. I suggest watching the 1966 film July Rain on UA-cam, there is a Mosfilm channel with a ton of Soviet films in decent quality and with subtitles. This is 1966 movie, and in the 80s ordinary life of people was even further from politics and ideology.
a) Gulags were abolished in 1960. b) In the 80s,the maximum that you would get for attending church would be a toothless lecture from some old fart. In 1980s soviet government was a big,fat joke, and everyone were laughing at them.Anyone with two braincells in their head would understand, that everything was falling apart...
@@Honeydoyou Well, you can ask pretty much anyone who was living in the 60s/70s/80s USSR, but I guess we should trust you, oh wise an’ knowledgeable UA-cam user!😑
Very nice orchestration of ASMR sound effects as an integral part of the story line, but . . . well, in terms of humor, the only funny things were "Boris Karloff" and your hat, Comrade Broflovski (my eyes were drawn to the South Park label on your ear flap every time you looked to your right). Otherwise, a pretty grim experience. 😔
I remember when Yugoslavia was still a country
So you're in your 30s? Or older?
@MrJOJ and what if they are?

I’m loving all the South Park merch
В 80х мои дедушка с бабушкой спокойно ходили в церковь и никто их никуда не ссылал 😂 только крестики не носили, ну или прятали их под одеждой
I thought Khrushchev pretty much did away with gulags and condemned Stalin's actions in the 1960s. But it still makes for interesting ASMR!

Maybe this is some alternative history? Plus, GULAGs were succeeded by "Corrective Labor Colonies" that you could still call gulag, kinda.
