Top leaders, including the Deputy Prime Minister and Ministers, attended the third meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee for the Master Plan for the Development of Sihanoukville into a Multi-Purpose Special Economic Zone (SEZ) last year. Tuesday morning, July 9, 2024.
The 3rd Meeting of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee for the Master Plan for the Development of Sihanoukville into a Multi-Purpose Special Economic Zone (SEZ) chaired by Dr. Aun Porn Moniroth, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Economy and Finance; Chairman of the Committee at the Ministry of Economy and Finance.
The meeting was also attended by several top government leaders, including Mr. Sun Chanthol, Deputy Prime Minister and First Vice President of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, Mr. Say Sam Al, Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Land Management, Urban Planning and Construction, Mr. Bin. Tra Chhay, Minister of Planning, Mr. Tho Chetha, Minister of Water Resources and Meteorology, Mr. Peng Po, Minister of Public Works and Transport.
The purpose of this meeting was to review and discuss the progress of the preparation of the Sihanoukville Provincial Master Plan and the draft report of the Sihanoukville Provincial Master Plan and the 12 related reports, reviewing the action plan and the next work direction.
On 27 July 2020, the Royal Government of Cambodia issued Sub-Decree No. 115 on the organization and functioning of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee for the Master Plan for the Development of Sihanoukville into a Multi-Purpose Special Economic Zone. Structure: 1 chairman, 3 vice chairmen and 21 members representing relevant ministries and institutions.
To address the challenges ahead and promote development for the medium and long term, the government has launched a package of considerations to boost business, trade and investment activities in Sihanoukville to build Sihanoukville. To be a leading province and a model province in promoting investment and industrial development, which is a solid foundation for turning this province into a multi-purpose model special economic zone, as well as contributing to accelerate economic development.
Speaking at the launch of the "Special Program to Promote Investment in Sihanoukville 2024", the head of the Royal Government, Samdech Hun Sen, expects the launch of the "Special Program to Promote Investment in Sihanoukville 2024" will contribute to Become the face and future of Sihanoukville to be a major economic pole and a model of Cambodia by solving the problems that lie ahead as well as the effective use of existing potential and favorable resources.
He emphasized that the special program was designed to address the challenges of the private sector with on-site coordination and the provision of both fiscal and non-fiscal support to investors and businesses, as well as the promotion of the sector. Industries, focusing on the development of industrial zones and related infrastructure, as well as capacity building of implementing institutions and stakeholders in Sihanoukville.
