There’s a nice little US channel called Frugal Money Saver - a retired couple who offer a variety of tips, recipes and just general common sense when it comes to living well on a budget.
We’re struggling and the best gifts we received from friends and family were gift cards for groceries (they asked which stores we shopped at so they didn’t buy us one for a store that’s not in town) or they would take whatever amount they were going to spend on us ($25/$50 etc) and slap it on a bill (we have medical debt so they sent that $$ straight to our hospital account). Took so much stress off us and eased our burdens
Thete is a good channel clawed Under the Meduan run by Hope and Larry. They talk about cutting fuel and energy costs as well as general food shopping Granted it is US based but some tips still can be applied. They are keen on budgeting as well as having the support of each other to talk over spending. So important to have like minded partner or friends to help you on you frugal journey. I will certainly check out Jane's book.
I am from a well off middle class family, had an amazing career, huge salary, large house and hubby. Had a terrible car accident, left disabled and got divorced. I've been living off my savings for a long time, but unfortunately now I have them almost gone. I am struggling badly, oil is about to run out and no money to buy oil. It is soul destroying. But at least we have a roof over our heads and food....which is more than some poor souls.
The frugal folk on UA-cam have been such a support to me over the past very money tight years. I think it is wonderful how they do collabs and mention each other all the time. This video us a prime example of that -thanks Tess!
"Shock" is exactly the right word for someone who's lifestyle has suddenly changed. Encouragement is the best path forward. Yesterday does not matter. What is happening today and what can we do to plan for tomorrow, can be handled. I appreciate your gentle way of dealing with this very difficult topic and this excessively difficult time. I am in the US, and I no longer live where there is snow - I am very afraid for the people and the UK who are experiencing such a dramatic rise in energy and fuel costs along with the food costs. I like Kat V's comment on making life interesting and fun, even as we perfect our frugality.
Tess, I am absolutely loving your Xmas vlogmas series. The love just flows out of you, and a feeling of peace comes when we watch. It is such a pity I live in Australia, Jane's book would be something I would definitely buy. I will be sad when Xmas comes, not being able to have a Tess fix every day. 😘😘
a hug? - PS Clean My Space has videos on how to clean with vinegar and other common ingredients. Mommypotamus has recipes for diy personal care products. I don't buy cleaning products except dollar store dish liquid. I am not turning on the heat in my bedroom (if I am wearing layers I am fine). And I am learning to love cheap treats (box mac n cheese - which I love - instead of the gourmet pizza). I did splurge on christmas- 35 pairs of insulated snow trousers for people who are homeless (two very nice ladies distributed them) but certainly no regrets on that. I have always sewn/mended. And frankly older pc's work just fine for what I need. youtube is my telly.
Thanks Tess, I am severely sight impaired and thought how much I would like Jane's book but thought I wouldn't be able to read it if small print. I'm now going to order one! I watch all the channels you mentioned. Thank you for your channel, I really love it. You are so kind to want to help your friends. Kindest regards x
I don't have a financial planner but every year I go to Dollar Tree and get a calendar for my refrigerator and just a regular planner and I write all my bills they are all set amounts except water and sewer bill only varies by a couple dollars.. I put the same amount of money into savings every month so I always know almost to the dollar what I have to spend for gas and food and miscellaneous each month because my only income is social security. I am Frugal on some things but not everything I only buy markdown meat and whatever marked down food and non-food items I can find and I shop thrift stores and garage sales for clothing and household items been doing this for many years when I was still working full time and since I've been on social security for two and a half years. I do dine out with friends for lunch two to three times a week I spend about $100 a month by getting senior meals or using dining coupons. I can have a salad a sandwich a drink a $2 tip for $8 that I'm not willing to give up
I think that’s what frugality is actually all about - living well whilst remaining within your budget. You have chosen your “luxury” and it brings you tremendous pleasure, so you are willing to forego other things to enable you to do it which is exactly what being frugal means. The easiest thing in the world would be to splash out on expensive meals every time which would eventually put you in debt but you’ve found another way that suits you, so good on you for that.
When we do eat out we always take the rest of our meal h9me for a second meal that week....I had a small pizza out this week, and have enough leftover for two more meals...
what a lovely empathetic person you are Tess.....im more like giving people the fingers about how they have called me a cheapskate and tight fisted all these years, making me out to be a joke with my frugal ways....although i dont mock them really...a worker i work with has recently stated they are going to deal with the credit card debts....i suggested looking up Dave Ramsey for a starter and just left it at that.....hopefully they will find a path to go on......oh by the way on the subject of my frugalness...i do now treat myself and just got back from spending 2 nights in Andy Murrays Cromlix hotel.,,,, financed mainly by the 1p challenge.....it mostly covered everything...(ok i got the cheapest room) .for 2 people drinks and food etc...and we just had what we wanted..really recommend it....spoiling yourself that is...so long as you save for it....
@@Tess-FrugalLiving me to... i have gone without so many things for so long in my life....while i have extra money im going to enjoy it. first the security things and then left over money towards treats and in this case big treats.....next year who knows maybe baked beans on toast again...
Hello, Tess! I definitely agree that next year will likely be worse for everyone everywhere, unfortunately... How does the mortgage go up? Does the UK not lock you into the rate at the time of the buying of the house?
Hi Autumn, Some people have fixed rate mortgages and some have variable rate mortgages, which track the Bank of England interest rate. You choose which option you prefer the look of when you take out your mortgage. Sometimes a variable rate mortgage is preferable, but definitely not at the moment.
@@Tess-FrugalLiving , I guess I'm not a risk taker I always prefer to have the fixed rate. Luckily my home is paid for now but I remember back in 2008 in the states people lost their homes because they could not afford those mortgage increases when their loans went up and a lot of those houses were what they call underwater so they couldn't even sell.
Frugal Lizzie Bee is a hardworking single mom; also assisting her father who lives in the apartment below her. She is in Wales. She is just a doll!
I love watching FLB ... the son is so sweet. Love watching the rare times they are together in a video.

I have already bought and set up my financial planner and set it up for next year. Maybe next year if they're still available.😞
I too have bought my 2023 budget planner and I am in the process of setting it up.
Love hearing from you every day!
